Just Imported Castlevania Dawn Of Sorrow...

You know, one way or another, I just can't separate this, Aria of Sorrow, and Symphony of the Night.  Not a bad situation to be in, to have three such excellent games available to me.

Dawn of Sorrow certainly feels like a better overall package than Aria.  In particular, the bonus modes are more well rounded, much more satisfying.

One thing though:

I got Julius mode (though I've never seen the bad ending) and I was wondering how you complete it.  I suspect I'll have to beat every boss before the room at the bottom of the Condemed Tower opens, and there are a few I've missed.  If anyone could confirm that though, it'd be appreciated.

Have you played Harmony of Dissonance?

Have you played Harmony of Dissonance?

I have, in fact I had all three GBA Castlevanias at one point. I found Circle of the Moon too hard, and didn't relate to the characters well enough (any game in which the protagonist has longish hair and a cloak or a long coat and I'm sold!). Harmony of Dissonance just seemed to lack a bit of spark, and its

inclusion of a second castle near enough identical to the first one was just tired and confusing.

So I now have:

Super Castlevania IV

Symphony of the Night

Aria of Sorrow

Lament of Innocence

Dawn of Sorrow

I think there's someone in this thread who won't like this, but of those Super Castlvania IV is the only one I haven't played to any great extent. It seems good from what I have played, but I guess I just prefer the Metroid-vania style.

Symphony of the Night was my first Castlevania game, thanks to a single line in Edge and a desire to get to know the series before Lament of Innocence came out.

And I do have a soft spot for Lament of Innocence. It's not up to the standard of Symphony, Aria or Dawn - and in 3D terms it's no Devil May Cry - but somehow it's more than the sum of its parts. And the unlockable character is simply sublime, a joy to replay with.

So I finished killing the very bad boss and got what I think is the third (fourth) and final ending but

I've not unlocked Alucard. Do I need to complete Julius mode first?

Alucard doesn't have a separate mode - he turns up in Julius mode at the same spot you met Arikado as Soma. You get Yoko aswell, by taking Julius to her shop. You swap between the characters by pressing X.

It's a great addition to the game, and each character brings something to the mix.

I just got the bad ending and unlocked Julius mode. Just had a quick go of that and it's ace, the music is great and I can't wait to pick Alucard up (how far into it do I get him?). I started playing SOTN again last night (it looks fooking gorgeous through component :D ), so I'd love to crack DoS with him.

One thing though:

I've read I should've been given the Talisman earlier on in the game, but... I don't seem to have it? ;) Where will it appear in my inventory, or what can I do to get it now?

.::: You'll get it by defeating a certain boss.

I believe it's that Guy-on-Fire in it's second form in the Garden of Madness. Afterwards Arikado comes along and hands you the talisman, iirc.

.::: Well, that was a tough boss to crack. ;)

Well I was looking through my inventory for 'Talisman', but it's labelled as 'Mina's Talisman', which is probably why I missed it first time around

I'm up to the last boss now, it's the first one I haven't been able to kill on my first go- it's a bit of a tough bitch but I've got most of it sussed now. I'll be going back to it later :D

Hey, got a dilemma here.

At the mo I've found somewhere I can buy Castlevania COtM for £7, HoD for £13, and Golden Sun for £7.

I could get HoD on it's own, or CotM and Golden Sun in one go - but not all three.

Also, bit off topic, but I can get Boktai for £7.

Good deals?

.::: Although it's the lesser of the three, I'd get HoD because it's a bit more rare. CotM is quite common in the second hand market and Golden Sun has never been rare.

Boktai, well I didn't like the stealth personally. Be sure to check whether it's US or EU and if it's been used because if you got the wrong geographical location you can render the game more difficult.

Woohoo! I didn't know I had it in me! Just finished the

Boss Rush in under 5 minutes.

I'm shaking!

Dawn of Sorrow is probably the Castlevania that I've wanted to get the most out of - I got 100% of the souls last night, something I never did on Aria. Got the

Chaos Ring,

so that should make any replaying more relaxing. I'm about to embark on hard mode, and I only have

Soma to beat on Julius mode.

What a package!

I just neat the game with the bad ending but didn't unlock Julius mode

I used a save file that I copied from my original to beat the game, is this why I didn't unlock Julius mode ???

there are two 'bad' endings, the first one nets you nothing

I'm pissed off you can't reconfigure the controls in Julius mode, as I used Y to swap sets in the main game and X for the special attack, so I keep pressing the wrong buttons now.  ;)

Yeah, that's a bit of a bitch. I use Y for jump and for B attack, but they're reversed in Julius mode which confuses the hell out of me :P
