Considering its gonna be 80 squids more over here than in the rest of the developed world (oh how typical of Sony) is it worth all that doe?

Theres also the fact that it looks very dry on the games front, and i aint really feelin the love with RR3, Wipeout or another other of the launch games for that matter, and the only appealing prospect is GTA which aint being developed by Rockstar North...

Its a sexy piece of kit, but you're supposed to buy on console on the strength of the games.....

If you are not sure about getting one yet - then dont. Seriously i wish id have waited (after the initial buzz i just didnt play it much).

Mine is mainly used for playing old emulated games and watching the occasional video. I just dont like many games on the system, and the future games dont seem amazing either. Id wait a few months and see what happens.

I would say it's worth it only if the 2.0 firmware gets cracked enough to run emulators. PSP games are great, but there won't be enough for 6 months to keep the PSP from being consigned to a drawer unless you can fall back on Megadrive and SNES classics.

...you get to check the system before you buy it in Game plus have a much easier time when something goes wrong.

True, but if you're looking to get one with no dead pixels, aren't you going to have to stand in the store while the assistants go through their entire stock? That's the embarrassing scenario I'm expecting. I'll be doing something along the lines of the following...

'This one?'

'No.'

'This one?'

'Hmmm, let me see. No.'

'Ok, how about this one?'

'Sorry...'

'Look, this one has absolutely no dead pixels. Are you going to take this one?'

'Probably not.'

Actually, taking into account the current unusually high exchange rate, and VAT - the UK price is comparable to the US one.

Certainly a far cry from the pounds for dollars situation we usually have.

you seem to have already answered your own question. you find it too expensive and you don't like any of the launch titles. or maybe you just wanted to start a PSP bashing thread ?

p.s. don't bother to reply

with the dead pixels - you could get s uper minty system take it home and within 3 hrs have about 10 dead pixels - so checking it in the store isnt going to help

they may even start a policy once you check it - its yours, 3 hrs later - feck

My US model has about 8 dead pixels all over the place - it was dead pixel free for ages as well

Sound more like stuck pixels to me, and I believe it may be possible to fix that problem.

Alas I just ordered a PSP from HK, 1.5 and a pixel check. Should be around the end of this week. Though it's only just occured to me i'm going to be playing WipEout in Japanese, unless I can change? If not will it be to much of a hassle wadeing through menus?

When (and it is a when) they crack the 2.0 firmware, I'm in there. I can't afford one right now (which means importing isn't going to work), and by the time I can the UK release will be in the past. Octobertime.

There's really only two games that I care about - Wipeout Pure and FM2006. I'm skeptical about GTA - specifically how big the game world will be. But with emulation, I've opened up hundreds of games, many classics, all portable and pixel-perfect (unlike the GBA).

What are the odds of a port of UAE?

Ooooooooooooooooooooooo.

A fully working UAE would be ace. Heck, it only needs to run SWOS anyway.

PSPUAE exists, albeit in a far from perfect state.

Mind you, I haven't checked for an update recently so maybe it has been improved. The 'scene' seems to change by the hour.
