Who Plays Cs Wirelessly?

I'm having a torrid time with packet loss now I've had to switch to a wireless connection for my CSing. I am getting packet loss like a bastard - is this the norm with Wireless and will require some tweaking to get right?

I am using a USB wifi adaptor - is that a likely cause to the packet loss which a PCI wifi adaptor might remedy?

I'm on a wireless network and I play like that all the time. My ping is pretty steady around the 40 mark. It goes up I'm if I'm DLing loads of filth, obviously.

My ping is like 30 all the time, that's neither here nor there for packet loss.

I might lower the encryption to 64bit or move the router upstairs

I tried that with mine, still didn't work well :D

It's all doom and gloom isn't it with you? -_-

Have you knocked an entire carton of beetroot jars down the back of an M&S fridge or something today? (I have done this)

Sometimes i feel like hitting the damn thing with a BIG axe.

But com sig has advised me and shown that this is not the way it works (i have destroyed many pcs, and he usually gets to fix them)

It may be because it has to go 30 feet through 2 walls, but that doesnt explain how stupid it is. I can be logged into steam, go on and play cs. Then i stop, try the internet. "Check the connection"

so i go on cs again. Its fucked -_-

Then sometimes it just refuses to work.

I play it wirelessly and at the moment it seems to be terrible you may've seen my amazing ping spikes. The router is on the floor below me, but it's directly below me, should that help? Unless I drill a hole in the floor, using a cable is rather out of the question (although drilling a hole in the floor does seem rather tempting...)

For as long as it's going through a wall/floor there will be packet loss, it's unavoidable.

Ive tested and installed wireless networks b4 for gaming, its not that great

1)Most wireless connections are encrypted so that cuts speed of a 802.11g(54MB) connection by half.

2)Oli also fact thats your using USB, not that its bad but usb devices can be demanding on system resources + may not always function fast enough for the data thats coming in wirelessly(that could explain your packet loss) aswell as having to travel through walls and doors.

3) If you live in a city or built up area, and u have turned encryption on or even sometimes off, it can pick up interuption from other wireless devices( although ud have to b in v built up for this to happen)

I use wireless for gaming (though I haven't been on counterstrike in a while!) and I have no problems whatsoever. Most of the sites/reviews I've read say that it adds at most 1/2 to the latency, not enough that it would make much of a difference, and on the counterstrike server I'm around 40 most of the time, same as most other players...

Having said that I don't use a USB one...Don't trust em!

I just had to phone up BT about my wireless internet conking out, in case some of you haven't seen I've been getting some appalling ping spikes lately. Anyway this guy was very helpful and he assissted me in changing the frequency my router runs on, it seems to be working well now (fingers crossed). The guy suggested it was possibly interference from other wireless appliances (we use lots of cordless phones in my house), not even in our house. Anyway if your wireless connection is giving you grief, try swopping the frequency it works on.
