I found it to just not be very portable. It's too big, the smaller SP fits in a pocket far more comfortably.

Yeah, the size of it does bother me as well. I think the SP has spoiled us a bit as it was the first truely pocket-sized handheld.

If I'm not taking a bag with me, the SP is still the portable of choice. Especially as I got Astroboy last week (£10 in Game) and it's aces.

Well, I have Mario 64 DS and Mr Driller: Drill Spirits.

Ones a port of an N64 game, and the others just plain shit. As you can imagine, the DS has yet to impress me. Hilariously, the only game I've played on it in the past couple of months was Metroid Fusion (a GBA game).

It's failed to impress you after you've played two games, neither of which are amongst the best the DS has to offer? And what, were you surprised that Mario 64 DS was a port of the N64 game- what the fuck else did you expect? :P

Got my DS from the Stars catalogue and prompty eBayed the free t-shirt. Came complete with one dead pixel but I could never be bothered to send it back

Super Mario 64 DS

Abandoned the touch screen control pretty sharpish but with some nimble figure work practised on all the GBA Mario Advance releases found the game perfectly playable. On 112 stars at the moment and have just kind of left it. Must get back to it but then I never liked the Boo level.

Metroid Prime First Hunt Demo

Looks nice, bit rubbish on your own.

Another Code

Far too many "..." moments for my liking despite only being around 45 minutes into it and lacks the atmosphere that my favourite point and click game Broken Sword has. But I haven't really played it for that long so should get back into it before giving a firm opinion.

Kirby Canvas Curse

I have only played this briefly and it reminds of of the GBA Klonoa games in using your surroundings as well as the stylus to progress through the level. But again more playtime is needed.

Meteos

Best puzzler since Tetris. Fantastic prodution values, lots of different modes and highly addictive. I'm still not very good at it but it is currently locked in my DS until I get better at it.

Catch! Touch! Yoshi! (sold)

Didn't grab me at all. Seems like a marmite game and score attack game have never really interested me apart from ones that involve falling blocks.

Zookeeper (sold)

Bought due to forum hype then promptly sold after finding it to be the most overrated forum favourite since Bangai-o.

Overall I am impressed with the DS. It is too big compared to the SP and I have been playing GBA games on it more than DS games recently but that has more to do with my fervent collecting of the GBA games in case I never see them again rather than anything lacking in the DS game catalogue. AWDS will be added as soon as the US release as well so plenty to look forward to.

Elektroplankton

Nintendogs

Yoshi Touch & Go

Warioware

Pac-Pix

Feel The Magic

Sprung

Kirby

Zoo Keeper

Meteos

Polarium

Mario 64 DS

Pokemon Dash

Nanostray

Bomberman

Jump Super Stars

The games are just so cheap (at least in the US) and I've more than got my money's worth playing them all. Most of them have a real 'freshness' to them (i.e. not just the usual seen it all before emotion of playing on the bigger consoles these days). Not had this much fun with a handheld ever.

I just picked up a DS in town today, kinda semi impulse buy (decided lst night I was gonna get one, kinda spur of the moment decision based on nothing in particular ;)). I've only got ZooKeeper at the moment (came free with it), which is great fun, much easier to play with teh touch screen than with a mouse, I find (no idea why though).

I've got Another Code and Yoshi coming from play.com too, shuold be here saturday or monday, I hope.

There's a whole list of games I'm really interested on the way (hence finally buckling and getting one), Kirby, CastleVania, Advance Wars, Ace Wright, Trauma Center, and a few others, as well as a few games out at the moment I'm interested in, but I dont really know much about many of the games people are raving about (Meteos, Polarium and Electroplankton in particluar).

Is there a decent source of info around for DS games that anyone can point me at?

I'm really impressed by how good the picture is on the screen, I shoved in FFTA, and the colour is so much more vibrant, and the picture is really nice and sharp, and I thought the SP had a good screen! Oh, is it worth sticking screen protectors on the DS's screens? Or are they only for spazzy little kids?

.::: You'll get hair-lines eventually, nothing serious though, they disappear when you swith it on. Deep scratches are impossible with normal use (unless you define 'normal' as using a pickaxe for a stylus).

In order of purchase

Silver Jap DS - Pretty scratched up now as I just throw it into my bag but still works perfectly fine. I really want a black one though but until my silver one breaks i'll just do without it. I don't see it breaking any time soon.

Mario 64DS - I personally love this, I completed it on the 64 back and of course the control method isn't as good as on the 64 but it was never going to be. I don't find the controls to be a problem at all and the inclusion of the minigames has kept me returning to this every so often. Sometimes i just run around catching bunnies for fun.

Mr.Driller - Oh god I suck at this game. I still really enjoy it and now that my flatmate has bought a DS i've realised that there is someone in the world who is worse than me.

Kirby Canvas Curse - Only one word to sum this one up, AMAZING. I fell in love with this game as soon as I drew my first rainbow coloured path. This game should serve as a sign to SEGA as to what to do with the next sonic games.

Need for Speed Underground 2 - This game is fairly good in my opinion but definately not amazing. It's doing well enough for me to not fiend after Mario Kart any more but when the traffic is set to Heavy the small screen does make things kind of difficult. I also wish I was able to turn the bottom screen off as I can't help but glance down to see how far ahead I am only to drive right into a van.

Jump! Superstars - My newest purchase, bought yesterday. This game is incredible. Considering I can't read japanese at all I've been having loads of fun with this one. Trying to figure out with picture goes into the blanks to create new character pieces or support pieces has been a lot of fun, especially when you realise you've just unlocked a character you are familiar with. The fighting is loads of fun as is the ability to switch characters at any moment. Definately my favourite game on the DS so far. I'm loving it so much that I've not even looked at any guides on the internet yet. Just trying to figure it out on my own is far more rewarding. I'll resort to a guide when I've completed all 4 islands and just can't figure out how to get those last few cards.

Zookeeper (sold)

Bought due to forum hype then promptly sold after finding it to be the most overrated forum favourite since Bangai-o.

At last, a fellow Zookeeper hater. Zookeeper started out nicely for me, but soon turned into poo with the Quest Mode. Recently got Meteos, which is what Zookeeper should of been in terms of longevity, playability, etc. It's fantastic with a great hook to unlock everything.

Mario 64 was impressive, though I wished the thumbstrap wasn't so arsey to control. I think the problem is the gap at the bottom of the DS being too large to grab over and comfortably control Mario. I need one of those Comfort Styluses - anyone know of any UK stockists?

Metroid Prime Hunters was also impressive but felt a bit gimmicky. Warioware was the game which sold me the DS - I was in love with it when I hammered the DS pod in my local Game, and I still jump on it occasionally. It definitely was a good starting point to showcase what the DS could do in terms of gaming, and unjaded my blackened gaming heart.

The multiplayer sessions I've had have also been hassle-free and very enjoyable - it's great you can use just one cart and not fiddle around with cables, etc. I'll be definitely importing games from the US from now on too, as we know how arsey NoE can be with release dates, etc.

I will be honest and say I have been apathetic to gaming for nearly a year. I bought my daughter a DS for her birthday and now I have one of my own. It's reinvigorated me and I play my Xbox a lot more as well and I have just bought another Cube. But anyway here is what we have so far -

Another Code - Not to sure about this. It's original and obscure puzzles are fine with me but it just seems a bit 'fiddly'. Gamefaqs comes in handy.

Super Mario 64 DS - Not as good as the N64 original due to the control method but still good.

Tiger Woods - I have two different versions of this (USA and Europe) but have only played one. Nice graphics, plays well. Makes good use of the touchscreen.

Metroid Prime Hunters : First Hunt - I love this. The control method is sublime and the graphics are decent.

Zoo Keeper - Digital crack. Worthy of the hype.

Urbz : Sims in the city - Have not played this. Daughter got bored pretty quickly.

Rayman - I didn't like this but then again I don't like any Rayman games.

Warioware Touched - Superb. Totally mental and a great laugh.

Let's see...

Mario 64 - Not too bad. Controls surprisingly well with the stylus and the minigames are fairly entertaining. TBH, I prefer Sunshine...

Project Rub - Rub it!!! Rub it!!! Rub it!!! Rub it!!! Very very amusing, but I probably won't play it again. Looking forward to the sequel as after all that time I spent rubbing it I may finally get to find out where babies come from.

Wario Ware! - I love the feeling of just drawing on the screen and watching crazy things happen. It's a shame the games are all 3 seconds long as I enjoy just twirling and tracing and stroking.

Another Code - Very clever puzzles and exceedingly well presented. I was genuinely interested in how the story would play out, but I got a bit pissed off towards the end when the amount of cut-scenes overtook the amount of actual gameplay (otherwise known as the Otacon syndrome.)

Meteos - Possibly the greatest puzzle game ever made. I want to unlock everything, but I also enjoy the experience of launching the meteos off the screen. Very satisfying and more viscerally entertaining than Tetris ever managed to be.

Bring on Kirby, Castlevania, Phoenix Wright and all the other insane games! The DS has gone from a mere "meh" to a mighty "wow!" in the space of one game, and if the second wave of games manage to live up to the standard of the superb Meteos then I'll be very happy. In fact, I will look something like this - :) *

*By which, of course, I mean this - :D

I bought my 13yr old niece a DS, "as she wanted something from her uncle" I got her Mario, Project Rub and Mr Driller.

P.R. was absolutely hammered on our holiday!! my younger cousins loved it, all those little mini games kept them entertained...

my four yr old daughter got into playing it too. :) (my missus got confirmation yet again that i've "converted" her along with my niece into another gamehead!)

I'll be scanning the trading folder for some bargains to get for my niece... :D

I currently have (in order of purchase):

Mario 64 DS

WarioWare Touched

Zoo Keeper

Yoshi Touch & Go

Pac Pix

and I'm also borrowing Another Code from a friend at the moment

Yoshi is definitely my favourite. And I'm really enjoying Another Code. The others I don't really play anymore and I'm probably going to sell Mario and Wario at some point. I don't want to get rid of Pac Pix just yet as I'd like to get a bit further on it. And Zoo Keeper is fun to pick up and play but can get frustrating. Damn that evil man.

Mario 64 DS - Brilliant game, let down somewhat by control

Wario Ware Touched - Second best Wario Ware game, a little too small

Mr Driller Drill Spirit - Mr Driller (I love it)

Polarium - Second best puzzle game in years, Challenge mode is brilliant and will keep you going for months

Project Rub - Good but a little small

Yoshi Touch and Go - Great but pretty limited

Zookeeper - Not yet played

Meteos - Best puzzle game in years, a frantic pace

Kirby Canvas Curse - Brilliant platformer, a perfect game for the DS

Another Code - Pretty good adventure

All of them where worth buying (well im not sure about Zoo Keeper yet, but the rest definately), Meteos, Kirby and Polarium have been the stand out moments so far for me, any one of those 3 on there own would be worth getting a DS for.

Another definate plus for me is that im playing my GBA games again, never having been able to pick up an SP (it really wasnt worth the money), the quality of the original GBAs screen really limited the time I got to spend playing my GBA games, obviously thats not a problem with the DS and I have not problems with its size either...its the best of both worlds for me.

I just got my copy Of Daigsso band brothers, and already it is shaping up to be one of those games I will always keep for a quick blast years down the line.

Good collection of songs on the whole (are you listening Donky Konga), and I am mostly in the early stages so they are prity basic.

Actually it should never have been made. Hardly even uses the touch screen ;)

this thread is beginning to worry me.. I'm determined to go out and get a DS in a couple of days and now most of the comments seem to be that it's a good source of demos rather than anything else.. Worrying..

Anyhow, I'm aiming to get the TRU DS + Zoo Keeper + Project Rub bundle as both games interest me from a design standpoint even if they're not quite up to the fullness of what they could do.

If I had the money I'd get (and intend to at some point) Mario, Wario, Electroplankton, Advance Wars, Nintendogs (won't tell daughter I've got it though), Meteos and Mr Driller. TBH it just looks like the only place where we're going to see any innovation and spirit within the games industry which is why I really want one. Am I wrong?

It's probably been around 2 months sincs I touched my Ds, but there is a distinct lack of titles that intrest me. Although i'll be picking up advance wars and animal crossing i'm just not as excited as I should be.

Mario 64

In japanese...

Nothing really to special about the game, but it was enjoyable playing one of the greatest platformers on the move. Though, if Nintendo went for it co-operative play would have fully been the way. The wi-fi play was utter crap and lasted little more than a few minuites, yet co-op would have lasted weeks.

Wario Ware

The most played title, and 99% complete.

Though some people may have complained about the lack of any real challange I found the game really enjoyable, and just the thing to break someone else into the Ds' control system. But again, lacking the crucial multiplayer essence that would render it unstopable.

Feel the magic

I felt the magic, whilst proding that seductive misstress with my stylus.

Safe to say I now hate this game. After reaching nightmare for the first time everything became a struggle, with only a small leap of joy at completing a stage. Only to throw the cart across the room as the next came along. It may just have been better if I didn't have wario to thrive on at the same time. I'm pretty sure I won't be touching the sequal, even with a very, very long stick.

Polarium

Slowly does it.

The first game I actually brought from the Uk, though probably more as a impulse buy. The gameplay was so - so, but just got to be a bore after a while. But at least it was cheap.

It's a small tale of loss really. I got massively hyped over the Ds' launch. Importing one from japan, which arrived just before christmas. Yet recently I have come to wonder if I was hyped with the belief that 'Nintendo make such good gameboys this can't go wrong'. Though after a fair few months the system now seems a bit bland. With nothing particually interesting to show for itself.

My impressions of the DS since i`ve had it at launch are pretty much the same as psp, launched with a few decent titles but nothing since. Mario 64 wasn`t to bad, warioware was fun but short, same with feel the magic, yoshi touch and go was just a heavily stretched out mini game and wasn`t worthy of the price tag. Another code was a great adventure game but was to short with no replay value. Got meteos the other week aswell and while fun i don`t find it the be all and end all of gaming like some people have been making it out to be.

It could definatly do with some more fully fleshed out games that utilise the touch screen imo instead of stretched out tech demos like a few of the games have been. I`m definatly looking forward to the future of what the ds offers though with mariokart, animal crossing and Ninendogs at the end of this month in the US, things will start to look up for the DS soon enough. It more than i can say for the psp though, which doesn`t have alot in the way of present or near future must haves, with virtua tennis only looking like a must purchase until the end of the year

I enjoyed playing Super Mario 64 again - but in portable format. (Well, I didn't enjoy it as much as the original because I didn't bother to collect all of the stars, but never mind.) The 'thumbstrap method' was my control system of choice.

I liked the DS incarnation of Wario Ware more than the original, and wish there was more content. After I had played through all of the characters' courses, unfortunately I had no inclination to ever play it again.

Well you've ignored the totally sweet games that have been released in the last few months, of course you think that.

That's like someone buying an N64 with FIFA: Road to the World Cup and saying "Oooh, it's a bit rubbish and bland there's just this football game and it's rubbish".
