Retro Gamer Magazine Now Bi-monthly.

Recommended Posts

My brother's just been made redundant this week by Live - he was one of the sub-editors on Retro Gamer as well as doing duties on a couple of other titles. I believe half a dozen other people were also shown the door on the same day.

Seems like the move was precipitated by the collapse of modders' magazine PC Extreme, and general cutbacks across the range.

I was >.< this close to taking out a subscription with Retro Gamer this month; glad I didn't now. I love the magazine; it knocks Games TM's Retro section into a cocked hat; but I'd be surprised if it lasts another year.

This is pretty crappy news. I was just saying to the GF this morning that the new issue should be turning up today :P

I know it's not perfect, far from it, but it's damn good read in my opinion. Don't give a toss about the cover disc but they've unearthed some great interviews and such. Surely it proved that a retro mag has a place in the market today. It doesn't look like the mag is failing, that other mags in the group of helping to bring it down.

Here's hoping it does make another year, and another one after that.

I think thats exactly the reason you should be taking out a sub. The more subs, the more solid a base it has to be retained, the better the support from advertisers etc

More subs now could see a return to monthly perhaps? Certainly it could maintain a future without Future.

Less chance of it being axed if it was bought out too.

On the one occasion I did subscribe to an axed mag (LM), the publisher refunded the difference.
