Is ignorance an excuse? So the Americans haven't played much of Elite, but does that make it not a good game in their eyes?

Methinks it is just a chart of 100 games they remember fondly, or like now. Anything they didn't see doesn't seem to count.

Well, yeah, as evidenced by the appearance of freaking Pac-man.

Tecmo Super Bowl is insanely popular in the US - it was pure arcade fun American Football & it's widely regarded as a very treasured classic by gamers & non-gamers. That's why it's in this list. As previously stated, IGN is an American site & Americans have a very different 80's "history" as far as games go to Brits.

To put it simply, it's their Sensi.

If Gran Turismo is to be in that list - and I think it should - then GT2 should be the representative.

GT2 was terrible, it was just GT1 with more cars and worse graphics and a rubbish framerate. GT1 was pretty good for it's career mode ideas, but I'd probably pick GT3 as the best in the series although I haven't played the 4th.

Why so? I ask because I was gonna get medievil 'cause rome cripples my PC, so it's nice to know it's the better game.

The basic answer is because I think the changes that they brought in to the upper level strategy side of the game with Rome (making it more realistic, less board-gamey etc) made a mess of it. The actual battle engine is better, but the beauty of these games was always the way that the overall strategy produced wonderful encounters.

There needs to be a good balance between landmark titles and accomplished titles. Is Tetris the most complete game? No. Has Resident Evil 4 changed the perception of videogaming? No. But, theres no doubt they both deserve their place in the list.

Its not particularly difficult, even for IGN.

Oh, wait, yes it is.

No there doesn't. There needs to be two lists 1. Landmark titles and 2. Games that are fun to play.

Obviously there'd be some crossover, but a list can't judge the entrants on two completely different things. Game x s more nfluential than game y is fun. That just don't make sense!

I have fond recollections of Ms Pac-man, and enjoy replaying it on occassion. It has a bit more variety than the original. It features arguably the first cut-scenes in gaming. It has bags of character. I'm sure at high levels of skill it's not as rewarding as many other games of the era, such as the marvellous Robotron, as high scores presumably rely so much on ghost pattern memorisation, but for a short, sharp nostalgic thrill I think it's a good one.

As soon as I seen Tecmo Super Bowl (you're guess is as good as mine) beat so many technically accomplished classics, I knew the list was officially retarded. I only suspected beforehand.

No sport game, in my mind, deserves to have a place in the list. I have enjoyed Pro Evolution Soccer in the past, but before that, I enjoyed ISS and Fifa (old Megadrive versions) not to mention Virtua Tennis. Lemmings needs to be in the list, as does the Sims (I personally dislike the game, but has any other title appealed to the female market more?).

Rubbish! Sports games have longievity, where as many other games do not. And I'm talking about good longievity, the sort where the woman is gasping afterwards and says "that was the most amazing thing!"

Championship Manager, for instance. But with less women.

Why is america so obsessed with fucking Pac-man? They should really think about how often they actually played any Pac-man over the last year.

They like to eat? All day. All night. Until they explode.

You are wrong in every single way. How difficult can that be? Rubbish framerate my arse. Worse graphics? Not a chance.

Sheesh.
