Far Cry Instincts

The thing about Far Cry Instincts is that it's in danger of being released on the Xbox 1 far too near the 360's first batch of FPS games (Perfect Dark Zero etc etc) for it to look any good or have any real impact.

True in some respects, but not everyone is going to rush out and purchase a 360...

I'm a huge fan of the PC original so I'll definately be giving this one a whirl, funny people should mention it being overshadowed by the 360 as in my opinion it's both conceptually and visually far more appealing than anything that's going to available on the 360 around launch time ^_^

Very true, but in terms of seismic-shifting capabilities (it's fair to say that Far Cry on the PC was an OMG title for a while), it's not going to do it. Doesn't mean that it won't be a good game, mind.

Looks nicer than PD0, let's face it.

Let's wait for the next batch of screenies from the final dev kits before saying that, eh?

It's Rare. They take 50 years to do anything. There ain't going to be much change.

I just saw the trailer for Far Cry Instinct's multiplayer on GameTrailers and it's looking pretty impressive, almost as good as the PC version.

The predator mode sounds interesting if they can get the balance right - I can imagine a lot of camping from the soldiers..

I've not played Far Cry, but, what does this game have over Halo 2 apart from being new?

Did the PC version have multiplayer, and was it any good?

And what about the weapons balance?

The graphics are dated (Not even approaching Halo 2's by the looks of this video) and the pop -in looks drastic.

As I've said tho, I haven't played it. Am I missing something here?

Well I love Far Cry, so this is a must-have ^_^ Anyway this may be released near the launch of 360, but Starcraft:Ghost isn't out on the Xbox until next Summer

It's set on absolutely lovely tropical ilsand which give you total non-linearity in your approach your enemies and their bases? It's full of lush foilage and amazing looking beaches? It's generally brilliant, and the graphics are far better than Halo 2's purely for how lovely looking the levels are alone, and how great the various plants and wildlife look.

Were you watching the same trailer as the rest of us? This looks absolutely fookin' lush! :)

The only really noticeable 'pop-in' I saw was the vegetation when hang-gliding, and that was just changes in the detail level rather than something suddenly being rendered in from nowhere. You know... The same problem Halo 2 was getting slaughtered for around here not that long ago?

Gameplay wise: What YellowSamuel said, plus: Gliders! Boats! 'First Blood' style Traps! AvP 'influenced' Predator mode!

Looks like you'll have far more tactical freedom than in Halo 2, and everything seems to be on a far grander scale and more ambitious. Hopefully not too ambitious...

The PC's multiplayer mode was apparently pretty good, so hopefully it'll all be nicely balanced. The only thing that worries me slightly is whether the maps might be a bit large for the number of people actually playing in them.

OT, but is that right about Starcraft: Ghost? I'm sure one of the programmers at E3 said they were just polishing it now. Shouldn't be surprised, really, given that it is already a couple of years late.

Not really this gen, but what would a boxed copy of Majora's Mask, Conkers64 and Limited Edition ICO (with postcards) fetch me?

2 weeks ago I'd have been blown away but since getting Battlefield 2 the multiplayer bar has been raised well above that for me. Still looks like it could be the best on Live (bar Midtown Madnes 3 in its day).

The PCs multiplayer mode did not do much for me. While it looked incredibly good the balance was shot to bits. The game just turned into a snipers paradise with people fighting to get to the good camping spots. Just lots of scouring the landscape for the flash of the sun on a scope lens while being shot in the head by mister invisible.

The single player game rock bells though. I still think it is one of the best FPS ever, probably only beaten by Half-Life 2. Beutiful environments, great AI. Satisfying weaponry and vehicles. Much other good stuff. Although it does get hard as nails toward the end. My hat is off to anyone that actually made to the end on hard level without using a quicksave patch or some other cheat.

I'll admit I've not actually had a bash myself. The mates I've discussed it with used to play it at LAN parties, which I guess is worlds away from online play... Seems people are much more likely to play a game 'as intended' when they're within punching range. ;)

That's actually why the size of the maps in the trailer worried me a bit... It does look like it could end up with every player camped in a different area and nothing much actually happening. I really hope this isn't the case since, played properly, this could be rather special.

It's 'predator mode' I'm really keeping my eye on. The pred's extra abilities (is that Dog's Life style smell-o-vision?) will hopefully shake things up enough. I loved the 'uneven' multiplayer modes in AvP back in the day... There's nothing quite like a bit of dread-fuelled teamwork to elevate a game above the run of the mill deathmatch titles.

I'm really looking forward to the single-player game here too, since I adore the PC version. It did plenty wrong (the voice acting, that sudden difficulty spike, those bloody trigens), but the sense of complete freedom and that great merc AI more than made up for any problems. I'd definitely agree it's one of the best FPS titles out there. I might just give it another play through in anticipation of Instincts. :)

It was the studio's first crack at an FPS wasn't it? If they can come out with something like Far Cry right off the bat I've got faith that they're the kind of guys who can learn from the criticism they've had.

I'm still enjoying the PC Far Cry, earlier I downloaded Matto3 a single player mod. It's a big download, but well worth it.

OT, but is that right about Starcraft: Ghost? I'm sure one of the programmers at E3 said they were just polishing it now. Shouldn't be surprised, really, given that it is already a couple of years late.

I think I read it on Gamecentral.

Absolutely. Splinter Cell has since perfected the 'uneven' versus game - it's very different of course. Nothing better than being the guy with the gun, yet still the one who's being hunted.

I too will be keeping my eye on Far Cry.

I have just been reading the OXM preview for this. They state that Ubisoft have added the 'feral' abilities at the last minute and that they are concerned with the way that the game is shaping up. I am sure I read about those abilities ages ago - are they really that new?

Yeah those abilities were mentioned ages ago.

I'm 99% certain they've been central to the xbox 'port' since serious work began on it. They've certainly always been mentioned every time this one has cropped up in Edge's preview pages.

If I remember rightly whoever wrote Edge's feature a month or so back was quite excited by how this was shaping up, though I don't remember whether they'd actually had their hands on any playable code. :P

Oh man... I really want this to be something special...
