Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Recommended Posts

One of the first things I did in San Andreas was cheat my way into the airport (by parking a car up against the wall, then standing on the roof and jumping the wall, then the fence), which can be done pretty much right from the beginning of the game.

I flew a plane into one of the restricted districts, just to see if I could get there by bypassing the roadblocks. As I was flying over the second district, I got fired at by fighter jets. One missile missed me by millimetres, and the other hit me from behind. My plane caught fire and I had to attempt a crash landing. I hovered low over the main stretch of motorway and, just before the plane gave up, I jumped out and rolled to safety. The plane exploded and I quickly grabbed a car to get the hell out of there.

I made it to the spray shop and tried to clear my 4-star wanted rating. Alas, after being resprayed, it still didn't work, and I got slaughtered by the surrounding cops.

Still, worth a try, eh? :D

Heh I did that as well, it's absolutely grand.

I can't wait for the next one.

Yeah, the helicopter controls are a shame, I can't get the Hunter in my hangar back out

Now you have your licence there's a full size passenger jet you can get from a hangar in LV in case you didn't know already. I like to take that one back to the Grove and attempt to land it.

I'm playing though the PC version ATM and loving almost all of it, I'm really going to have to get a PS2 or Xbox controller converter for the thing, trying to ride a motor cycle is a fucking nightmare with the camera controls.

Alternatively can anyone recomend a good set up for the controls that might save me from buying a converter?

I used to do a "break into Area 51" (or whatever it was called on the game), which involved trying to evade the fighter jets until you'd got over the base, then leaping out at 1000 feet and trying to parachute inside. From there I'd try and nick one of the helicopters parked behind the fence, but rarely got more than a few feet away from the base again before I was then blown up.

I jsut did that mission where you have to drive a bike onto a moving cargo plane, kill all the government agents, plant a bomb, and jump out with a parachute.

Jesus christ! Is there anything you can't do in this game!?

Music and empty spaces still annoying though.

And has anyone managed to get an FBI SUV yet? I always get so close, but get blown to pieces as i'm entering my garage.

I managed it once, I had to end up using the house that you can buy all the way on the northside of Las Venturas, took off over the motorway and the concrete barrier held them back just long enough for me to nip into the garage.

That's a pretty good place to do it because you can raise your star level fairly quickly as well.

I have literally been playing this for over ten hours and I've not even opened up any new areas of the map yet. I think I've only done about 20 missions, but it's absolutely fantastic. I'm trying to learn the area of the map I have at the moment, and basically I'm just running around trying to do and see everything that is available to me at the moment.

I already have 25 tags sprayed, so I think I'm doing pretty well on that front, but I'm not good at remembering where all the weapons are hidden and stuff.

How long has it taken all you lot to learn all this stuff?

I wish you could change weapons in mid air. I always wante to satchel a bike, drive it off Chiliad, jump off and blow it up in mid air and parachute to safety.

On Vice city I've managed to damage a bike so much it catches on fire, launch it off a big ramp and then jump off, to watch it explode in midair. That got me plenty kudos points from my son.

Surely the best way to get an FBI van is to get your stars right up, then nip into a Pay and Spray when the Feds are after you. Come out of the Pay and Spray and there should be a bunch of J Edgar's hanging arounf with no-one to bust. Once your stars have stopped flashing, jack one of their trucks and trundle off with your one-star wanted level.

I can highly recommend getting this and playing San Andreas with an Xbox pad.

I also have a little app that lets you set up joypad controls exactly how you want them (more flexible than the in-game options). Using that, I've got the perfect control set-up.

Oh, man. I just started this for the third time - "finished" it on the PS2 (the story, at least), played it for a while on the Xbox, and then had to start over on the 360. I really want to get out into the country, so having to go back to the beginning was a bit of a drag.

Anyway, I did the first lowrider dance mission just now, and I was driving back to base in my flamejob rider thinking about how many missions I had ahead of me, pretty much on autopilot and wondering if it was all going to be worth it, when BAM! - I drive past a group of Balas and don't notice until one opens fire and his first bullet takes out one of my front tyres, snapping me out of my daydream, into a passing police cruiser, and straight into a three-way firefight that ends in a chain of explosions and a kinfe-edge getaway.

At which point I realised it's going to be well worth it.

On the 360 pad it's great so far, except the distance of the triggers means drive-bys are still not as easy as on the PS2 - but they're a lot better than on the Xbox pad with the black and white buttons. Switching targets is a lot easier, too, and I assume the planes are going to be greatly improved when I get to them.

Hurrah!

The emulation spot on then?
