Went to see them last Friday. They were epic! Fantastic gig.

And I'm listening to 'Arriving somewhere but not here' by Porcupine tree. I really hoped they'd play this at the gig, but they didnt. Nor did they play Halo. Massive shame. Both fantastic tunes.

They played the first disc of The Incident, and then about an hour of older stuff - Trains, Gravity Eyelids etc

Fabulous sound; the drums were crystal clear, the bassline was good. And the guy who played the guitar in place of Steve Wilson (he played the fancy stuff on the album but not for the gig), was the same session musician who played on the Marillion Convention in Holland. Bloody brilliant.

We arrived late so missed the support 'The Engineers', who are good. All in all a superb gig with excellent sound.

'We Are The Dead' is quite bleak! I know what you mean, though. He was obviously coked up to the eyeballs, but I still think it's a shame Orwell's family didn't let him adapt it directly into a musical as he wanted.

I'm kinda obsessed with Laibach, particularly their covers of famous rock songs that draw out all the weirdly fascistic elements that went previously unnoticed. This one's a cover of Queen's 'One Vision' stripped down to a Wagnerian march.

It's pretty mental how far they took the concept, never dropping out of character and refusing to resolve any ambiguities about their work even when everyone assumed they were neo-Nazis. Shame their later stuff is terrible.

Yeah, really under appreciated band sadly, they got pretty big for a while when they were supporting metallica there in 96, but that was about the biggest thing they did. Still, stuff like deliverance sounds to me practically like a blueprint for bands like QOTSA
