I think if we buy a couple of very good players van Persie will sign. I'd be disappointed if he didn't. Trophies are one thing and money is obviously a driving factor but I can't see him getting what he gets at Arsenal (enjoyable football, loved by everyone, leader) anywhere else. I think he's a much better person than someone like Nasri and ideally he'd like to stay so long as we show some ambition. I think he'll 'settle' for being our best paid player despite it being less than he'd get elsewhere. I also don't think he'd be a good fit at City somehow, I don't think the set up there would suit him.

I don't know who are the big earners at Arsenal, but I'd suspect RVP isn't the biggest. Arshavin must be on a lot for a start, definitely more than he's worth at least. What if he's got a match highest earner clause - should he get to be on £160k too? Etc.

No, he's a lazy midget meerkat who can't even make the first team.

I get what you mean, though. There will no doubt be clauses in various contracts to be negotiated. This can be fixed by selling (dumping) him to people with more money than sense.

I forgot to add, (even though it's naive to hope) it's possible that the club could change it's strategy.

Look to the NZ All Black's rugby team -- one of the most traditional sides in sport. They steadfastly stick to the rule of only selecting NZ players who play in the Super 15 competition but in a rare moment of lucidity, they allowed Dan Carter (the Lionel Messi of rugby) to play for mega-rich French club Perpignan on a six month sabbatical. We got to keep Carter. Carter earned $2million for six months rugby (actually, he injured his achilles in his 5th or 6th game) and everyone was happy.

Not everyone gets the "Carter clause" and the NZ Rugby Union is not afraid to let people know they're not eligible for it. Richie McCaw (NZ captain) has one in his contract that he's yet to take and Ma'a Nonu, our best inside centre in 20 years is enacting his this year in a cushy Japanese league. But these are the only players in the professional era (began in 1995) to be allowed this dispensation. So, maybe Arsenal could break the rules for those who have broken records (like RVP) or have been with the club long enough to warrant such an offer (again RVP, despite being injured for much of that time).

We simply cannot compete if we don't offer within 20-30% of the top wages. We don't need to offer it to everyone, just our 1 or 2 top marquee players. Those who think they're worth it but don't have the stats to back it up can go elsewhere...

Yeah, I'm dreaming...

I don't think you are, you've pretty much summed up what I think our problem is.

Our wage bill is very high, 4th now I think. Not including the crazy money being paid at Chelsea and City we may only be behind Utd. What I think we do wrong is spread our high wage bill fairly evenly throughout the squad. For example, I think I'm about right, Diaby is on about £60k per week and RVP is on about £80k or so per week.

We should be offering RVP around £150-160k per week to stay, but players like Diaby should not be on £60k. He should be on around £35k and think himself lucky.

Wasn't it correct that we couldn't get rid of Bendtner, Denilson, Almunia because of their high wages? Bendtner was/is on £52k per week? This is madness. The big players, RVP, Wilshere, Szczesny, Sagna & TV should be on the big big money but others (Diaby, Djourou, Fabianski etc) should be on much less.

Why do we reward players who do nothing more (Theo & Arshavin for example) with new big contracts.

The money we set aside for wages is fine, we just divide it up wrong.

Huddersfield lost 2-0 to Charlton last night. That was their first defeat in 43 league games. So the 49 league games unbeaten record is safe, for now.

I'd been keeping an eye on them - it's basically the best result I've heard for a while because Arsenal get to keep their record and Wednesday nip into second in League 1 due to it as well.

Gunnerblog reports diaby injured and out of tonight's game.

He got a bit of a twinge the other day apparently. He's just utterly, utterly broken and I just feel sorry for him now. Hope it's not too long. :(

“It is very important that Diaby has come back. He had a little alert and we will see if he is fit for Tuesday. It’s a little muscular problem. We don’t think it’s a long problem.”

Way.

She put them somewhere random in the envelope, with some other paperwork, and can't find them anywhere. So they've probably gone out in the recycling or some shit.

Now I can't hurl abuse at Samir Nasri. :(

See my PM. Might be able to get duplicates for collection at the ground.

Whilst poor old Diaby prepares for yet another comeback, he can take some solace in the fact that the sloping browed, hairy palmed shit stain, Dan Smith who put him in such a state is now plying his trade at non-league level, so far having amassed more appearances as an aphrodisiac in farm yard husbandry than as a professional footballer.

Indeed, Dan Smith works for a call-centre full time. I think one of the energy firms of something like that.

It is him?!

My mate works for EDF and recently asked me what was the name of the guy who broke Diaby's leg as there was a Dan Smith working with him!

You have to wonder how differently things might have turned out over the last five or so years had Diaby, Eduardo and Ramsey not suffered such horrific injuries. All off them were the result of idiotic, reckless borderline malevolent 'challenges'. All of them, perversely, at a time when the respective players were just starting to play a crucial role for Arsenal.

Slightly stronger squad than usual I think:

Andrey Arshavin

Yossi Benayoun

Marouane Chamakh

Francis Coquelin

Johan Djourou

Craig Eastmond

Lukasz Fabianski (GK)

Emmanuel Frimpong

Gervinho

Laurent Koscielny

Ju Young Park

Vito Mannone (GK)

Ignasi Miquel

Nico Yennaris

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Oguzhan Ozyakup

Sebastien Squillaci

Thomas Vermaelen

Hang on.

Denilson as well. According to my friend (citation needed) his completed pass percentage on his first season was higher than Xavi's.

Not a coincidence, they wouldn't have been targetted if they were doing rubbish.

*Unintended racism gif previously found here.*

Oddly racist picture is odd. And racist. Maybe watch gif in full before deploying next time? :P

I don't remember Denilson suffering a break as a result of a bad challenge. I certainly don't remember him having a higher pass completion then Xavi - that's not to say it didn't happen.

Could well be then. I'd say unleash the hounds on him, but a lifetime at call centre dealing with Doris moaning about her gas bill is probably enough of a punishment for the cunt.

No offence to your mate though.

Or anyone related to a Doris.
