Arsenal

The media seem intent on belittling our achievements at the moment which probably suits us fine really. Apparently in the Sun Chelsea's player rating total was higher than ours for some reason despite them teetering on elimination from the competition and we just finished top of the group with a game to spare.

Although it's great seeing RvP smashing in goals for fun, does anyone else think he's just playing for his big move elsewhere? He's on fire and he says all the right things when interviewed but this is a man that's playing for his own future, not Arsenal's.

He's now in a position where he can virtually name his own price. Arsenal might be able to come close to his wage demands but nothing Arsenal do will complete with the massive multi-million pound signing on fee he'll receive when he moves. I'm just finding it a little bit difficult to get too wrapped up in RvP when I think he's blatantly going to leave.

Are you ever happy??

The other amusing moment of the night was when Goetze come off, he got a rather too generous applause from the home fans. Tapping up by 60,000 people?

Also he said this today:

I'm sure he won't be cheap but he's a more realistic signing than Hazard whose price seems to go up every week.

Personally I don't see it, he still lives at home, like a few others in Dortmunds team. Most importantly his agent is pretty sensible, and he has been in the press, critzising Munich linking themselves with Goetze and Reus. Hopefully, he will stay on for a few more years. Dortmund are still learning to cope with european football, it's been a while, discounting the mess they made in the Uefa Cup last year.

Losing Bender early on meant that they were facing an uphill battle, he is immense, at least his twin brother was on the winning side last night

Did any of you go, I hear there were 8000 plus Dortmund supporters attending the game, and many more came over, just to soak in the atmosphere.

I was there. There were millions of them. They had the full away corner, plus the upper tier above it. They were clapping in unison, singing, swaying all game. They were brilliant. That picture is amazing. How on earth did they all organise to walk to the ground together. Amazing.

Sven Bender is my new favourite footballer name.

Dude, they're fucking German.

Mmmm good point. The organisation of the fans in the ground was great too. All clapping and stuff in unison. English fans are shit by comparison.

I saw a couple of Dortmund fans at Tottenham Hale as I was going to work on Wednesday morning who had probably just come from Stanstead and I thought lucky bastards. I have to go to work all day and they have a whole day in a foreign city, getting lost, drinking beer and just generally larking about. Jealous. I think maybe I need to start putting the pennies away for another European daytrip later in the season...

Slightly odd article but some interesting stats re: Gervinho

Gervinho has played nine Premier League games so far, scored twice, made five assists and created a goalscoring chance every 39 minutes.

By contrast, Nasri, in his first FULL season, played 29, scored six, made just two assists and his chances ratio was one every 49 minutes.

Nasri has gone from being £12m player to £22m signing. Gervinho cost £1m less and yet has, quietly, effectively, established himself much quicker and already been far more productive.

It took Nasri the best part of two years to find a level of consistency. It took Gervinho less than two months.

Good point in the end, but that was one of the worst performances Ramsey has put in wearing an Arsenal shirt. He worked hard, but continually made the wrong decisions and his shooting and passing were pretty woeful today.

Arshavin contributed nothing, but no surprises there. I thought Santos had a good game. It's been said before but he's fantastic on the ball and has great passing ability for a full back.

This game had a definite CL hangover feel to it, but we're still in a good position and did well to battle back to win a point.

Totally forgot you were in Thailand! Where are you specifically?

I was watching it in near monsoon weather in Koh Lanta. Have also been to Koh Lipe and currently in Koh Jum. Before that, I was in Malaysia in Penang and Langkawi.

Turns out Chang beer is 6.5% which is why I don't even remember writing the previous post!

Back on topic, seeing Juan Mata play so well for Chelsea is giving me a bit of the envy. We could of had him... oh well.

Because news is a bit hard to come by, who are we hunting for in January? Goetze and some kid Gonzales?

I think even though we won't resign van Persie, we'll offer him the biggest Arsenal yearly salary. Of £116,000 per week (or £1,000 more than whatever our limit is).

JOkes aside, I'd love to see us offer him £160,000 per week. Not the biggest wage, but our biggest (right?). Then it might tempt other players to stay on. And, it'll make Nasri eat his whore-faced hat. We simply cannot compete if we don't offer within 20-30% of the top wages. We don't need to offer it to everyone, just our 1 or 2 top marquee players. Those who think they're worth it but don't have the stats to back it up can go elsewhere...

Yeah, I'm dreaming...

I don't know who are the big earners at Arsenal, but I'd suspect RVP isn't the biggest. Arshavin must be on a lot for a start, definitely more than he's worth at least. What if he's got a match highest earner clause - should he get to be on £160k too? Etc.
