Is anyone else starting to think Fabregas was a really shit captain? It might just be because RVP is amazing which is giving that impression, but we do seem to be becoming that little bit more likely to edge back into the lead than we did at any point in the last couple of seasons.

Yeah, Cesc was a shit captain. So was Henry & Vieira. None of them rallied the troops when they were up against it, they were just very good players who had more experience than most of the other players. The armband was just Wenger's way of trying to make them feel more important, but Wenger always seems to give the armband to the most senior player rather than selecting the best person for the job. It should really be Thomas Vermaelen. When RvP moves on, perhaps he will be the captain? Who knows.

Whats made me laugh just recently is the label that we're a one man team. Fair enough, it only seems to be van Persie getting the goals, but when you look at how the goals are created, the assists are coming from all over the park.

It makes the club sound still in crisis as Van Persie may get injured or not sign a new contract. No doubting if it was Rooney knocking in this many goals the headlines would be different. Having said that we do need to get decent backup, hoping a new striker can be bought in the January transfer window.

The other amusing moment of the night was when Goetze come off, he got a rather too generous applause from the home fans. Tapping up by 60,000 people?

Also he said this today:

Mario Gotze: "Arsenal is a great team, with great players like van Persie... It's an honour that they want me."

I'm sure he won't be cheap but he's a more realistic signing than Hazard whose price seems to go up every week.

I don’t think there were many option after Tony Adams finished. Lehmann maybe? I think Patrick V. was a good choice. Cesc and Henry less so.

Although it's great seeing RvP smashing in goals for fun, does anyone else think he's just playing for his big move elsewhere? He's on fire and he says all the right things when interviewed but this is a man that's playing for his own future, not Arsenal's.

He's now in a position where he can virtually name his own price. Arsenal might be able to come close to his wage demands but nothing Arsenal do will complete with the massive multi-million pound signing on fee he'll receive when he moves. I'm just finding it a little bit difficult to get too wrapped up in RvP when I think he's blatantly going to leave.

hate building for gervinho though.

Hate's a bit strong. He just needs to show some of the single-minded ruthlessness that he showed at the start of the season. Looks like he's short on confidence at the moment, hence why he keeps fucking up 1-on-1's.

So cynical! A player who's always been brilliant manages to stay fit for an extended amount of time and unsurprisingly scores a lot of goals. Are you suggesting he's trying extra hard or something?! That if he was happy to stay at Arsenal (because he loves the club) he wouldn't be trying quite as hard?

His finishing and sometimes his final ball is frustrating but I like what he brings to the team. Runs with it, lots of pace and a massive spam. Sorry I just can't get over it.

The biggest problem is still the defence. Shame we haven't been able to have a settled back four due to injuries, I think that would help hugely.

It's a shame we've not got a left-back at all, really. I'm basically happy with Jenkinson covering for Sagna - both getting injured is a nasty twist of fate we tend to have to get used to.

But I'm not happy with Gibbs or Santos.

I don't mind either going forward, but they both get destroyed defensively with too much regularity. The only way they could work is having 3 centre backs so there is always someone spare to cover (as we did against Chelolsea at the end).

didn't like the way the commentators (t'was a dutch feed, with sky commentary?) kept going on about the clean sheet as if the group was going to come down to goal-difference or even head-to-head results...

it's borussia dortmand, 14 goals in their previous 4 games, 15 in 5 now...

And that they carried on going on about it even after Djourou came on, as if it'd still be possible. Fools.
