I was there - there were a few empty seats at Club Level but 'half full' is nonsense.

Here's RVP's winner along with my prophetic commentary.

I don't get the point of videos such as this. Watch it on Sky, later.

I was actually quite encouraged by yesterday's game. Okay, we weren't playing a very good team, at one point it looked worryingly familiar, and it wasn't entirely convincing, but there were positives to be taken.

Van Persie looked properly up for it. He's been a litlle sluggish or isolated at times this season, but yesterday he was brilliant. It didn't hurt that we had our two most direct attacking midfielders flanking him, as he was actually getting some support, particularly from Gervinho. Walcott did seem to be hanging too far back/not making runs when he could/would/should've, especially towards the end of the game. It just seemed like a waste of his one unquestionable strength - running bloody fast.

Oh, and can he not take free-kicks when Arteta's in the team, too?

Speaking of Arteta, I continue to approve of the signing. He's more like a deep-lying quarterback than Cesc, perhaps more like Pirlo, but his range of passing is excellent and he keeps the team ticking over nicely. He won't be dragging us along/forward too often, but he's a useful player to have around, and age shouldn't diminish his game either. Not only that, but his game should mesh beautifully with Wilshere's, letting Jack do the dragging while he sits deep and dictates.

His midfield companions were a mixed (but largely positive) bag though. I won't dwell too long on Song, as he did his usual yesterday (largely very good, occasionally frustrating or mind-blowingly stupid/naive), but Rosicky's game was interesting. I genuinely think he would've been a good bet for a runner-up for man of the match, but for the fact that his passing was too often wayward. In or out of possession I thought his movement was fantastic, he can still make space with a slight movement like few players I've seen, and he was driving forward with much more urgency than I've seen in some time. The only problem was that too often he would have have the right idea in terms of passing, but then seemingly just swing a leg at the ball for the pass and put it somewhere other than where it was needed. That said, if he can start playing like that again but attain a better standard of passing I'll be pleased to see him on the pitch.

I don't think I want to talk much about the defence. They looked mainly okay against a relatively poor attacking team, but still inspire (and have) no confidence. Santos did look better when he came on though, and it was nice to see Jenkinson play quite well and with such industry.

Oh, and Szczesny's save was ridiculous. It doesn't matter how many times I see it I still don't believe it when it doesn't go in. Please don't let him go the way of most of the rest of our keepers, as at present he's freaking amazing...

True enough, but what about the RvP and Arteta corners? I'd love to see stats on how many corners have hit the first defender over the last five years. I find it incredibly annoying.

I thought Jenkinson showed a lot of character again. He might make the odd mistake but considering his background, his age and the fact that he's doing Walcott's running for him I think he did very well.

Looks like things could have been much, much worse in the summer.

In a stunningly frank interview with French radio station RTL (English translation here), Arsene Wenger has admitted that up to half his first team wanted to quit the Emirates this summer as widespread discontent ravaged his pre-season plans.
“This summer was the most agitated I’ve ever known. I had half the players in the dressing room who wanted to leave.

“You prepare a season, we go to Asia, we don’t know who is coming, the players who are still there are asking themselves what is happening and if an earthquake is hitting the club. It’s extraordinarily difficult.

It's definitely much better having a team full of players who no doubt still want to leave. Arshavin seems to be having press whinges, Chamakh obviously isn't happy, all the ones that left are obviously on the list. But that must leave a good few still for it to be anywhere near half the team...

Probably Almunia. Maybe Fabianski. Diaby? Sagna?
