It really was a no-win one this, but I'd have put the word out that we'd be playing a full first team, get the stadium full and pray to The Fucking Gods that we hammered them.

Even mostly full they were still quiet as mice.

The fans have been loud and cheering the team which is always a big plus.

The Shrewsbury fans you mean? My voice has gone now, but you lot were quiet as anything, only perking up when you finally clawed a goal back acting as if you were winning.

This is the weirdest quote.

Wenger: “Ryo did well when he came on. My regret is that he didn’t play long enough to show what he can do. He will get more opportunities.”

Was someone holding a gun to Wenger's head and stopping him from bringing Ryo on? If you want him on longer, bring him on earlier. What a stupid thing to "regret."

That's because many that go to league cup games are not regulars so they are full of excitement & enthusiasm. Come Saturday, it will be full of 60,000 suicidal depressed Gooners.

I am quite looking forward to the chants of "we are staying up". Assuming we win that is.

Of course but it is actually nice to hear. As alot of the stadium is normally pretty quiet with people just sitting around having their own personal conversation.

There's a guy who sits just behind me to the left who nearly has a breakdown every match. He clearly loves his football but he yells and screams himself to an extreme hoarse state when things are going bad. When Bendtner used to come on as a sub it literally sent him over the edge - it was like a red rag to a bull. I've never seen someone get so passionate yet so very angry at the same time.

Just caught the highlights of last nights game. It's weird because I feel like the squad has some depth to it that maybe it hasn't had in a few years. Frimpong, Coquelin, Chamberlain and Miquel all look pretty good. It's just any form of cross or set piece that we seem to have a problem with!

Really? I thought Coquelin looked pretty good, although I was only watching highlights. Still I prefer that lot to Denilson, Eboue and Squillaci.

Coquelin has got lots of potential, he could turn out to be a good player. I've never been a fan of Eboue or Squillaci but I did always have a soft spot for Denilson. Never the best or the true answer but funnily enough I think he might have been useful in these opening weeks. The team hasn't been crying out for him by any means but he knows the way we play and he might be boring or a bit sideways but sometimes I'll take boring and sideways.

More alarming is Wenger saying he won't get in a defensive coach and how he's done 14 years coaching etc. etc. I think that's wrong personally. I was reading an opinion that stated Ferguson has had a turnover of coaches/number twos, not always through choice cos they've left to do other things, but how it's kept things fresh. I think the players need a new voice every now and again. They say that you can only hear the same old stuff for a certain time and you'll eventually lose interest however valid it might be. I hope there's no emotional tie to Rice, I think actually that Wenger can only work if it's 100% his way and the 'yes man' tag is at least a little bit true of dear old Pat. But when we've struggled for so long on the same things I do a little facepalm and wish Arsene would chill out a bit and delegate to someone better equipped. I mean, this sudden emphasis on zonal marking, what the fuck? We look even worse for it.

When did we start this zonal marking bollocks?

Were we doing it last season?

God knows, we might have been doing it last year. It's really hard to tell and that says it all. For some reason it's been highlighted this season and it looks like the best way to make a shaky defense look even worse. No responsibility, someone smashes in a header and we're left looking at empty spaces blaming each other. At least if you're marking someone you know you've fucked up and the rest of the team knows full well who to bollock.

We started zonal marking this season, all the "training" we supposedly did in pre-season was changing from man marking to zonal. TBH other thann the blackburn game it has looked alright and our defense has looked better but unless the players are prepared to stand up and be counted for we will always collapse. Players need to attack the ball not stand around and wait for it.

It's been a definite improvement but when you can concede from a freekick because it bounces off your established defensive midfielder you've got to wonder if any system can work.

Step 1: Look at where the opposition strikers are and where they might attack. Also make sure to look at your other defenders to see if they are picking up these players, or if they are playing anyone onside.

Step 2: Look at the player with the ball and where they might choose to play a pass or cross.

Step 3: :omg:

Didn't Ferguson say he regrets/wishes that Owen could play more games? Stupid!

Is it surprising, though? No one doubts Wenger’s qualities or achievements as a manager, but if you can say one thing for certain it's that at this stage in his career he's suddenly going to start changing his philosophy or methodology. If you want a substantial change to the management of the team, the only way to do it will be to get a new manager.
