A few reports coming out of the States saying Arsenal may move for Fulham's Clint "Deuce" Dempsey. A bit of grit and guile, coupled with sound technical skill and a nose for goal.

I know Sevilla and PSG are sniffing around too, but I think he'd be a nifty purchase.

Sadly he's also passed an Arsenal medical :(

But yeah, I'm somewhere between Blinky and Everyone Else. He's a cracking defender in a massive variety of ways and he's the ideal signing due to that...I'm just not totally sure he's the perfect fit into the Arsenal defence and might require a change in the way we play. But I'm not totally convinced that such a change would be a bad thing.

For £10m he's worth the risk.

Keep them coming!

I think we need to change tthe way we play anyway. The system we currently use has only really been effective when Fabregas was available anyway. Looking at the purchases thus far and what we have available at our disposal, something similar to pre-Fabregas Arsenal would probablh work more to our advantage anyway and with our recent displays it probably wouldnt hurt to adopt a deeper defensive line anyway. Especially as Sagnas not particularly known for his crossing anyway.

I really can't why so many people are underwhelmed with the per mertesacker signing, (if it actually is happenng) based purely it would seem on hisnlack of pace.

I mean clichy was quick but how many times last season was he slated in her for playing someone onside and costing us a goal. Pace is handy for a defender to recover from a mistake, but let's think about this for a minute since our collapse at the end of last season pretty much everyone in here has been calling for us to change the way we defend and calling for a new defensive coach.

Does anyone here really think we are buying this guy to be played in the middle of a high line? (ok it can work look at Barcelona and their centre backs) but I would think it is more of an indication of a change in the philosophy which is what people have been crying out for.

On a side note though, if we do sign mertesacker that will be what 3 players? who where the club captain of their previous clubs, vermalean, park, mertesacker, which should give us a good couple of leaders on the pitch.

[edit] just seen some people have posted pretty much the same thing while I was writing this rant[/edit]

What's interesting about it all is that it seems to have smashed Wenger's transfer policy at last.

The three signings, between them, have over 150 international caps.

Bit different from your Oxy-Chambers.

Is Lansbury any good? A rather rotund, bearded journo who supports West Ham said we're (West Ham) supposed to be signing him today. LB isn't he?

edit, no fees or type of deal were mentioned so could be a season loan.

Midfield. Best in the middle, decent on wings. I love him thoigh thats no real indication of his actual quality. Will post more later when not on phone but suspect he'll be bought in to replace Scotty P.

Sounds very plausible then, especially if he's versatile and can play on the wings too as that suits Sam's preferred formation.

While I've not seen him play, I can't baulk at buying young British talent; just as long as he doesn't cost all the money from the Parker transfer. Arsenal are loaded enough atm :P

Gyan is being touted around by Sunderland for as little as £5m apparently. I think if they get another striker - probably Crouch - then he'll definately go. There's talk that they want a bank guarantee from the Turkish clubs in for him, but you couldn't go far wrong with him for the price. He'd be something we don't have and he'd surely prefer a move here than to the possible second tier of the Turkish league with no champions league football.

Realistically I reckon it will just be a case of concluding yesterdays transfers and maybe one midfielder in. As I say, probably Arteta. Almunia and Bendtner out for buttons and a few loans for some kids. I have a feeling by 11.01 we'll again be asking where all the money has gone, but for now I'm shutting the curtains, settling down with my party poppers and Prozac to make sure I've got all the bases covered. Bring it on.

Good old deadline day.

Tony, read another guy on twitter say the Honda rumours are rubbish and that he's in Japan treating an injured foot at the moment. Shame, he's a good player.

Edit: But reports from Italy we're close to signing Vargas. No idea how reliable itasportpress is though.
