Just thought I'd quote this again, bearing in mind that they've somehow drawn the second best team (by a wide margin) in Portugal, a Swiss team and the sound of someone sneezing.

Our draw? Could've been worse, could've been better. On balance I'd like to think we're the best in the group, especially (hopefully) with some reinforcements between now and then, but there are no slouches in there with us.

Man City have a tricky draw on paper, but, let's be honest, they're probably the best team in that group, especially if Bayern have their usual issue with injuries (to Robery and/or Robben).

They've got the best players in the group, they're not the best team. I'd bet on them going out.

I don't know, I think I'd wager the other way. That's a tough group, but I'd back them to prevail. They've looked (annoyingly) good so far this year, and with a few of them having been there for a while now it shouldn't take long for them to gel sufficently to be dangerous.

I'm just waiting to see them against someone better than Bolton (themselves a decent team) so I can get a better idea as to how dangerous...

Well, the only game they've played this season with any pressure at all they fluffed quite magnificently. Arsenal would have been proud to achieve that embarrassment.

I'm not saying that they'll concede they'll be rock bottom with zero points, but all 3 teams should be able to take points off them.

I don't know much about the other teams, but we would have been happy with this pool if we hadn't drawn Borussia Dortmund?

I'm basically happy with it - I'd trade with Man Utd in an instant, but they're all teams that are easily beatable - from the little bit I saw of Dortmund last season they're very good, but not quite terrifying. They're young and they try to play football - Arsenal can play teams like that.

Although if I was betting, I'd say 1-1 twice. The other matches are where qualification will be found.

Whats the story with Lucho Gonzalez? I read this morning we’re trying to get him on a year long loan. Seems like a very non-Wenger move getting in a 30 year old instead of shipping one out. Is this guy any use?

There seems to be quite a lot of talk about loan deals at the moment, as if there's no cash to buy players or something.

And a £6m bid for Cahill, which is clearly us considering his contract situation and Bolton saying fuck off.

I'm really tempted with the Dortmund away trip. I went there last time we played them & had a great day in the city. Their stadium is magnificent & one of the best I've ever been too (and I've been to a lot!).

Ditto, it should be a good one to go to.

It seems we've made a bid for Cahill, a pretty shit one by all accounts, but let's hope it was just an opening bid and we'll eventually get real, make a proper offer and get our man.

I hope however it wasn't a 'serious' bid and us being retarded again in the transfer market.

Standard derisory opening offer for a player. That's progress in Wenger terms. We'll get him unless Bolton are looking for something ridiculous, in which case he'll stay and go to Man City next year on a free transfer. I think £10 mill is more than enough.

I realise you've got to play the game but maybe this is not the time to fuck about. What if in the meantime City decide they could do with another CB? That'll be the end of that, we move onto the next target and all the while the clock is ticking.

I'm not even convinced that they buy players if they need them. Would Man City be hideous enough to spend £10mill on Cahill just to prevent him going to a rival? I think so.

£6m is probably silly for Cahill, but in the Metro it said they wanted 3x that. £18m is a lot, lot further from his value than £6m is!

It isn't that silly. He's got one year left on his contract. If you think outside of the inflated City prices, it's a touch short for an international player I'd say, but not massively off.

Still, Gazidis needs to not fuck about and chuck 8-10 at Bolton.

I think double-figures, just.

It's heresy in this thread, I'm sure, but I'd rather have Shawcross. Partly as he's better on your team than against him, but Incident aside I think he's got a lot of promise as a defender and is already good. I can't see Cahill getting that much better.
