Really? I guess I've only seen him on his good days then. :) How much are Lyon asking?

To be honest at this point I'd also rather have a good striker than Hazard if we're spending big money on an attacker. We seem to have a lot of wide forwards but look light at centre forward if Bendtner goes, especially when

Chamakh buggers off to the ACN.

Well they were talking about twelve million for him earlier this summer when Liverpool were sniffing about. I think Lyon would be quite keen to sell though as they have a young lad coming through and they could do with rebuilding a bit. Cissokho is alright, but he's prone to gaffs, so I guess he would be like for like for Clichy but more expensive.

Ayew as the centre forward? I saw him linked in France Football a while back but nothing since then.

Plus his name looks like the word 'Karate'. Which means we're in for all manner of headlines such as:

"Zarate kick knocks out Man. City."

And if we can sign Marvin “The” Martin (close enough to Marvin The Martian for me) our capacity to generate pun-tastic headlines will increase a million fold. Anything will be better that ‘Gunners Shooting Blanks’ etc

If we're sniffing around Lille I'd rather we'd went for Moussa Sow than Hazard, although there's every chance he'd cost the bloody earth. An added bonus would be that he could share a flight with Song, Gervinho and Chamakh to the African Cup.

I'd then spend what it takes to get Marko Marin.

Zarate can play as winger and striker. He's only 24 as well.

I think you've been linked with him before but Inter seem to be in the driving seat at the moment.

Yeah pretty sure he'll stay in Italy.

Ayew as the centre forward? I saw him linked in France Football a while back but nothing since then.

Metro bring his name up every so often but, y'know, it's The Metro. To be honest we really need someone who can cover RVP during the ACN so that rules out Sow and Ayew.

We could always try the Spaletti strikerless thing if (when) RVP gets crocked the day after Chamakh departs.

Having shown up selected members of football writing's finest for the know-nothing buffoons they are last night, Arsène Wenger will continue to go about the private business of strengthening his Arsenal squad ahead of the Champions League campaign quite a few two-faced hacks hoped his team wouldn't qualify for, if only because it would make for a better story.

Despite having spent 15 years in England, Wenger still hasn't learned or – one would hope – doesn't care that the best way for football managers working in north London to get the press on side is to offer them garrulous cheeky-chappy soundbites while feeding them a steady drip-feed of information of questionable veracity. That way, you can spend money hand over fist (while simultaneously turning your nose up at signing Luis Suárez) only to see your team slump to extraordinary levels of goal-shy mediocrity without fear of media criticism of any kind.

Haha, have that you twitchy cunt.

Anyway Raul Albiol is the centre back mentioned today. I guess people got fed up with Samba/Cahill/Jagielka/Dann.

FWIW I say we try and sign one of Dortmund's pair. It won't happen, but they're both bloody good.

Great result last night, some good performances out there.

Please AW, finish the job and now go out and buy a few players and let's get this show well and truly back on the road.

Can't believe we are even discussing the penalty save.

It was top drawer & we have a top keeper (who will only improve). Not much else to discuss really.

Reminds me of a cross between Schmeichel & Lehmann. I'll take that any day.

I feel our luck has actually turned this season -- we had a couple of lucky breaks with shots hitting the post in the Udinese games. UEFA actually saw sense and allowed Wenger to sit on the sideline. RVP isn't injured (EDIT: touch wood, crossed fingers, clutching lucky rabbits foot) and we're showing backbone at the back.

We'll get a decent draw.

Doesn't matter who we play. We just have to beat them. I'd like for us not to play Barcelona in the round of 16 again though.
