It's not about being biased. It's just that a lot of foreign football correspondents seem to be trying to follow Guilleme Ballbag's lead in portraying themselves as all-knowing spymasters, like a transfer-centric version of Varys from Game of Thrones. They like to make out they have concrete info on the smallest details of all the deals, both pending and concluded, from their amazing network of anonymous sources.

I strongly suspect most of it is complete bollocks, fabricated to make them sound important and clever.

The Moose from talkSPORT is getting annoying like that on Twitter. Each time a player is signed he Tweets something along the lines of "Ha, I told you so!"

I mean, it's fucking Juan Mata, guys. He's hardly low profile. I find it extremely hard to believe that we were the only ones in for him. It's much more likely that he had his head turned by a much bigger contract from Chelsea, and that was that. We should be used to getting gazumped by now: just this summer it's happened with Alvarez, Mata, and according to Arseblog, Cazorla. And that's just the ones we know about.

And Phil Jones.

Yeah and him. Although I'm not fussed if the board won't pay silly wages for largely unproven youngsters any more. I'd like to think they've learnt their lesson there. It's the proven guys I'm bothered about. We'll keep losing out until we pay more to quality, proven players. That applies to the ones we already have too, of course.

Guardian now reporting that Wilshere won't play too: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/aug/23/blow-arsenal-jack-wilshere-udinese

That's...not good.

So at the moment we're potentially looking at:

--------------Szczesny

Jenkinson--Song---Vermaelen----Sagna

---------Frimpong--Ramsey

-Walcott-----Lansbury------Gervinho

------------Van Persie

With just one defender on the bench, who's barely played for the first team.

Jesus Christ.

I would certainly start with Miguel at the back and play Song in midfield, personally. I think Song is a capable CB but we really need him in midfield. Our options are severely limited though whichever way you slice it.

Interesting

Like they're not too good already.

It's not fair.

Sounds nonsense to me. For one thing I don't think Pep will be there for more than a couple more years, the amount of time he spends whining about how much stress he's under.

Secondly, a huge part of their system is Busquets dropping in to defence between the centre backs, and the full backs pushing on. Their shape then becomes a sort of like this:

--------Puyol---Busquets---Pique

Alves------Xavi------Iniesta----Abidal

Pedro----------Messi---------Villa

So kinda 3-4-3-ish. The author completely fails to mention this, and only talks about Pep playing a player who is nominally a defensive midfielder at centre half.

The fact is that Busquets is a hugely important part of Barca's play: he breaks up attacks and he starts attacks. Take him out for Cesc and the ability to break up attacks in midfield is greatly diminished, as there is no obvious ball winner. Under Rijkaard, Xavi, Iniesta and Deco did not work as a midfield three, and I see no reason why what this guy is proposing is any different.

The clever bit about that is that when a team you're playing is pressing you high up the field, you can use it against them to drag them out of position. The end result of Busquets going back there is that dragging him around doesn't leave him out of position. Plus take that formation and replace Iniesta with Mascherano and it's a completely different team - if they need to be defensive they've effectiely got a 5 man defence and a two man midfield.

Mind you:

--------------Szczesny

Jenkinson--Song---Vermaelen----Sagna

---------Frimpong--Ramsey

-Walcott-----Lansbury------Gervinho

------------Van Persie

We're already there.

Not that anybody didn't see this coming, but what was it Wenger said the other week? Something along the lines of 'If you sell Cesc and Nasri, how can you still convince people you're a big club?'

More or less exactly that. We'll have at least three new players coming in on Thursday though.

Yeah I really hope we have them lined up and ready to go, subject to Wednesday's game.

I don't know if I'll be able to watch on Wednesday. Unless we can get an early goal then it's going to be absolutely horrific. :(

1 assist last year.

Thanks for the money again City. Mugs.

Nasri is out best player. Or was. With Cesc out the way, Nasri would have been 10 times the player he was last year by playing in the middle. We all knew it was coming, but this is fucking insane. I don't care who we bring in as replacements, no one would be as good as the ones we've just flogged.

I really hope they sit down with RVP & TV fairly urgently because they will only have 1 year left come next summer. It's no secret Barcelona are tracking RVP and a whole host of clubs fancy TV.

I'll be as disappointed as anyone if we crash out the CL tomorrow, but the only reason the club want to stay in the competition is for the money. There is a 0% chance of us actually winning the Champions League, especially with our silly little pathetic squad we've got. The only plus point of not qualifying is that we won't be humiliated like we are each year in a latter round in front of a global TV audience.

I do think Nasri will be a big loss, I just can't understand why he's going. It's quite obvious that's his heads been turned by his agents/advisers as he could stay at Arsenal and be lynch pin of the team, but instead he's going to go and be a bit part player at Man City at best. Given the way these teams go through players there's a good chance he will end up out on loan in a couple if years.

Well I don't give a stuff about the money, I give a stuff about the calibre of player it will allow us to attract in the next 7 days. That's the really important thing.
