And for the call for the last optimist to stand up and be counted: even I'm sitting down now. We're in a mess.

Yeah, but there's still time, right?

I think the only real comfort is that maybe Liverpool and Man United are games where dropping points isn't so much of a surprise, so if we can somehow produce a team for when the games get "easier" and don't drop points in those games we traditionally drop points in, there's still a way back.

There's no denying that the last few months have been an utterly monumental cluster fuck from the club though. Collapsing so spectacularly that we have to play this qualifier was the main problem. I think it's making it impossible to sign established players until everyone knows whether or not we're in the CL.

The likes of Mata, Hazard and M'vila are probably not going to want to move here unless we're in the CL (especially if their current clubs have already qualified). I'm just hoping we have a few deals tied up in principle and are waiting on qualification to dot the i's and cross the t's, otherwise we're going to be left with an awful lot of work to get done in a week. And if we go out to Udinese and consequently fail to bring in any big players, well then I'll be bricking it because the squad needs a significant injection of quality to even challenge for a top four spot at this point, never mind anything more than that.

I genuinely believe we've got players ready to go after we know the result of the CL qualifier, I've clung to this for a few weeks. This will be relatively top notch CL desiring signings if we qualify and lesser players, but still improvements, if we don't. This must be the case. One way or the other we'll have to dip into the market.

Kaka is being linked. Should I laugh or cry?

Elano, Balotelli, Dann, Kaka and Hazard will all be announced as signings straight after the udinese match.

I know this for a fact because I saw it in a dream

Wenger may be going mental but he and Kronke and Gazidis must have a plan.

This is true because I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who reads the internet

I wrote a book. I know facts

God - I don't even have the energy to properly follow through with this Palmer piss take. I'm bored and sad and tired. So very tired.

I keep telling myself we'll be fine in Udinese 'cause we just need to score one goal and then they'll need three.

Then I think "oh fuck, we need to score a goal."

Pfft. We were scoring a goal every 4 minutes last time we played them.

For a bit.

I don't think I'm over stating that Wednesday is the biggest game in Wenger's Arsenal career. Not qualifying doesn't bear thinking about. Not only would it be awful financially, but having the pain of playing all those Europa league games on a Thursday would make it even harder to stay in the top four this season.

To be fair if Chelsea want Mata that's that, because we can't compete on wages really.

I've seen on twitter - "Others are missing out they'll kick themselves"... Well quite. It's not like Swansea could have snapped him up.

The one thing Wenger's had to defend himself with in all these trophyless years is that he's always got Arsenal into the Champion's League, without fail. If he fails to qualify and then doesn't sign anyone else, it could really be all over for him barring the team punching way above their weight.

Apparently we had scouts watching Cahill today. I lol'd. I can imagine Wenger yesterday going "Cahill? Who's this Cahill chap? Never heard of him. Let's check him out."

It's probably because we'll scout him this season, so we can decide if we want to try and get him on a free for next season, as Squillaci will be a year older and will be moved on for nothing, freeing up a space for another centre back. I wish I was joking.

I'd say we might be able to tempt him with some Europa League football next season, but I think we've already fucked up the Fair Play league.

Is he that one we tried to sign last year but then one of those rich mental teams offered him twice as much money on a 4 year contract?

That's the badger, you rarely get a second chance so don't delay!

We haven't got a pot to piss in, so the fee was also a problem.

I'm very annoyed that we could have had him on the 'cheap' a month ago. Chelsea are getting themselves a very good player. More to the point, Chelsea are pushing further and further ahead of us.
