Plus they have just got £100m from the completely-in-no-way-related Etihad for their sponsorship of their stadium and shirts and to build a five-a-side pitch next to their stadium or something.

It was a £400m that they got from Etihad!

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed he would spend £40million on bringing players to the Emirates.

The French tactician is seen by some as being too cautious in the transfer market amid rivals such as Manchester City and Chelsea splashing the cash to bolster their squads.

But Wenger has defended his dealings, claiming he would be happy to spend £40m if the right players came along.

He told Sky Sports News: "I will pay 30 (million) I will even pay 40 if I find the right players.

I fucking hope he means he'd spend £30-40m on one player cos if he means possibly as low as £30m on all the players he needs to buy then that's bollocks, especially if Nasri goes.

Surely who he buys is more important than the price? I mean, you could spend 40 million on two players who turn out to be shit quite easily these days.

I think you're confusing me saying that this line up is "not bad and will surely better" with me saying this is the best line up we could hope for and there is no need make any additions. I think that Wenger thinks this is a great line up, I don't. I think it's not bad but not great. There are definitively areas we could improve and with close to 100 million in the bank after the sale of Nasri it seems suicidal not to spend the money. I just don't see it happening this transfer window unfortunately.

Yeah sorry, I wasn't disagreeing. Just expanding on your point.

On a slightly related note, if Wenger actually spends £40m - presuming we sell Nasri and Bendtner for the quoted figures - then we'll still have a healthy negative net spend for the summer. That is hugely disheartening.

No way is Scrooge McDuck spending £30m on one player.

Yeah, or get someone for free who's useless. Hi Marouane :bye: .

We all know we need some really good bigtime players, they don't come cheap. £30m to buy what we need is ridiculous.

Nasri at Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester is the goss around on Twitter at the moment. EDIT: And will wear the No.8.

Woo hoo! More money (not) to spend!

We can forget about world beaters. We are not in the market for proper world class players because the club can't afford them. All signing's are made based on potential and in the hope that a few will be sold on for decent money. See what Man City, Man United & Chelsea are doing? We can only look on in envy because we are not in the same league anymore.

I don't think Man Utd are much better off financially than Arsenal, are they? Certainly if you figure debt into it, etc. They're not in the same bracket as City and Chelsea, anyway.

It's just that the people in charge of United seem to know what the fuck they're doing.

What, really? Have you read the sports pages since last season ended? Notice how Rooney was leaving but they kept him? I mean, in terms of players and ambition they're a world away from us. I don't want their debt, fair point, but they look like they actually want to win things. We are basically a feeder club.

I meant better off as in financially, have edited!

Yeah, fair enough.

We have all, well most of us, stood up and said we're proud to have operated within our means. Spending £50m or £60m, I believe, would still be operating within our means. I WANT ONE FUCKING SUMMER WHERE WE FUCKING BLOW A SHITLOAD OF MONEY WE HAVEN'T GOT AND LOOK LIKE WE MEAN BUSINESS, JUST ONE SUMMER! We deserve that. We do not deserve 6% on season ticket prices with the way team investment has been handled. It's lurched from bad to worse, steadily, every year. Something needs to pick up urgently before the end of the window and even then it's too late. We bought Jenkinson, Gervinho and Chamberlain on money we've been told was already available. We hear this year on year. We need to spend all of the Cesc money, whether we already have it or not, all of the Nasri money and all of the Clichy money. And all of the JET money, mine's half a lager.

I dunno, Nuri Sahin was 10 million this summer, Kevin Gameiro was 9 million this summer, Alou Diarra was 5 millionish this summer, Royston Drenthe you could probably pick up for 10 million as Real don't seem to want him, Gokhan Inler was 10 million this summer, Danilo was 12 million this summer and so on. I think all of those would improve your first team/squad at the moment.

Mind you going on Chamakh's display last night, 500K for Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham would improve your first team.

On the upside, all the people we were wanting to get rid of are heading out the door - Denilson, Vela, Eboue, Diaby, Bendtner (not me, but others want this). So some people are calling it 'the great exodus' but really, apart from Cesc and Nasri, we want these people out the door. We're chucking out the rubbish.

Throw Chamakh out too and I'll be over the moon. Honestly, everytime I see his fucken face, I get sharp pains behind my eyeballs.

He's moved on recently has he, and for £6m? I didn't know that. Didn't he have a terrible injury? I'm surprised he wasn't on our list.

He moved to Porto this summer. His injuries are probably the main thing I'd be worried about, however I think he has the potential to become a good, not truly great, but good premier league midfielder. He's been captain since he was 19 and the Liege players always talked of his will to win. He's very industrious and a good passer of the ball with the vision and creativity to go with it. The downsides are that he's small and not much of a goal threat.

Mmm sounds a bit too healthy for us. Glad we dodged that bullet. We prefer them made of glass, balsa wood and straws.

We have some less injury-prone players as well, you know, they're not all made of glass

I don't think Chamakh or Squillaci have been injured once since they got here

 at above photo
