Barton is such a cunt, he really is - I know I should expect it but I can't help but be riled by his twitter comments.

Firstly it WAS a fucking pen when Gervinho went down - he was clipped. The only one who was guilty of simulation in that incident was him so this fucking anit-cheat crusade bollocks is a joke.

Secondly this "raising your hands is a straight red end of" shit. His fucking hands were raised!! He has his hands at Gervinho's throat and was pulling him around. It was a far more violent altercation than when Diaby put his hand on the back of Barton's neck and gave him a little shove last season, after which Barton went down like a sack of shit and Diaby got a straight red.

It's not like there is some kind "above the collar" rule which suddenly differentiates one gesture as "raising your hands" over another. It's just violent conduct and Barton was infinitely more violent than Gervinho and it was in his own fucking penalty area, in open play so should have been another penalty (even with the yellow it should have been a penalty).

Anyway thanks to the insane rules of the Premier League we now lose Gervinho for three games and Barton cannot have his punishment extended because the referee (who's back was turned) has already made judgement on it.

The whole thing was a fiasco. The referee had his back to the initial incident and there's no way he actually saw what Gervinho did, instead basing his judgements on the players' reactions. That these decisions are final is a testament to just how antiquated and backwards the officiating is in the Premiership. As the rules stand, yes Gervinho was always going to get sent off, but really it was such a silly incident. It sticks in your throat as we fell for Barton's antics all the live long day. Going into our next few games without Song should be interesting anyway.

I never actually find out the reason why we aren't able to review decisions after the fact.

It would make a such a huge improvement to the game.

Do something wrong and you will be punished whether the referee sees it or not.

Referees get it wrong sometimes, let's help them by insuring that if they do make a bad decision and there is some way we can minimise the consequences of that bad decision then let's do it.

No you can't change offside goals or bad penalty decisions but you can dole out and reverse bans which would be definite improvement.

There is just no way that Barton should be playing in the next few games if Gervinho doesn't.

The thing that Get to me more is if the ref had got the penalty decision right in the first place the sending off would never have happened.

Oh completely. Gervinho was clipped in the box and we should have had a pen which, given our dominance throughout the game, probably would have given us three points and a confident start to the season doing into the tough run of games, but as it is we ended up having a player sent off, drawing the game and having one of our brightest looking attacking players banned for two of our most important fixtures in the whole season.

In retrospect Wenger's decision to celebrate winning the 2005 FA Cup with a night down at the Mirror Smashing Parlour was a bad one.

This is absoloutely spot on.

Having a clear penalty turned down then being sent off while the main instigator of the whole fiasco stays on the pitch is just shit, I think you guys have every right to be aggrieved about it.

Controversial opinion: I thought Song was having a mammoth game and was your best player til he stamped on Barton.

Popped in as I was interested to see 'the other side's view' (I'm a Newcastle fan) and I have to agree with most of the 'Barton is a cunt' comments.

For me it looked a pen in real time, and the replay suggests he was clipped too. Therefore the whole debacle would never of happened if it had been called right in the first place. As it wasn't, and it did happen, they both should of been sent.

Obviously Song should have gone too, and will no doubt get a ban for the stamp. But even Barton's actions surrounding that infuriated me, not his immediate reaction as it was a dirty cunts trick that deserved some action being taken. I called 5 minutes before he went through someone and got red card himself after that. Instead he ran round aimlessly, clearly in a rage, then went down like a sack of shit for a lame bitch slap. But the non-sensical 'hug and make up' that Barton initiated with Song was just incredible and shows what a lunatic Barton really is. Either your fucked off you've been stamped on, or your not. To offer the olive branch having reacted like he did about it, and continues to do so on twitter apparantly, shows what a mixed up fella he is. It's like he doesn't even know what he's thinking.

You bossed the game itself but, apart from the pen you should of got and Walcott's tame effort after he cut inside Simpson, never looked like scoring. From memory we had 1 corner and zero clear cut efforts on goal so a draw was the best we could of got out of it, but for you it was 3 points in the bag if you had someone, anyone, who could do something decisive in the final 3rd.

I still think 4th is the best you can hope for this season, with maybe a domestic cup win too. For us I'm hoping mid-table mediocrity, but expecting a bottom half relegation threatened dog fight.

Song was playing pretty well and the stamp was a really stupid thing to do but in a strange way that nasty side is what we need more in our team at times. Everyone says we need to be more aggressive and that we miss players like Vieira but yet people seem to have forgotten what a naughty player vieira was. For all the class and skill he had he was a very dirty player and was prone to the red mist and getting sent off. I'm not condoning Songs stamp at all but if your going to stamp on someone, a dirty little runt like Barton isn't a bad choice.

Some new names being linked.

Arsenal look set to bid for Marvin Martin and Andre Ayew as soon as they have received the first payment from the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona.

I like the sound of Marvin Martin, if only because it's one letter away from this:

Didn't see the game, blessing in disuise.

The Gervinho incident, I've only seen photos and read what happened but is this right?

Genuine penalty appeal. Oppo player physically grabs the upended player and starts a problem, hands are then raised on both sides. The aggressor goes down clutching his face and admits he went down easily while the aggrieved party stands his ground and gets sent off, misses three games and career criminal gets off with a yellow. All the while the ref and assistant probably didn't see what happened.

Does that sum it up?

If we're being totally honest, there might have been slight contact but it probably wasn't a penalty, Gervinho did 'slap' Barton so deserved a red, Barton should also have got a red though as he proper manhandles Gervinho.

Barton's an idiot for picking him up by the shirt. It's an obviously aggressive gesture. Plenty of players pick up divers or players feigning injury, but they usually lift them up from under the arms. I like it when players do that, as the restart happens sooner without giving the ref a problem. Obviously that wasn't the case here, it was very disruptive and he could've easily seen red.

FWIW I'm not even sure if Gervinho dived; if he feels slight contact then he can go down, but the referee obviously feels there isn't that much in it and I agree. Not a dive, yet also not a penalty? The two aren't mutually exclusive.
