You have to ask what we were doing fucking about this long for if the difference between the offer we got about two months ago and the one we finally accepted was only £3m. It's been an absolute shambles from front to back.

Shambles you say? We're Shambles FC.

I really thought he had more sense than this. They've made it clear they don't want him that much, they don't rate him that much, he probably won't play that much, and yet still he wants to go back. He's like a weak and abused wife that thinks it's her fault that her husband keeps stamping on her face and she loves him and it's not his fault he does those things and he says he's changed if she'll just give him another chance.

Saying that, I wonder how much of what The BBC Understands comes from Ballague's twitter account.

I think part of Barca's problem (other than the obnoxious sense of entitlement) is that Fabregas average number of games played per season has taken a real hit in the last 3 years. ~35 games in the last 3 seasons really isn't that great. His stats are abviously amazing when he does play but how much use is a player who could miss every vital game you have? Another few seasons being forced to play through injury and he could be averaging less than 30 games a season before he even hits his prime!

I don't think anyone can blame Cesc for wanting to join Barcelona.

I just wish AW, Gazides, Kroenke or anyone would have the bollocks to tell Barca we want 40mill plus add ons, when you are ready to do the deal call us. We are in a strong position with Cesc as he has a good few years left on his contract. I know he wants to go but we are still in a strong position when it comes to doing the deal with Barca.

We should not be doing a deal for 30 + 5.

That's just shit basically.

Either way like most fans i just want this sorted one way or another so that we can look on how to move forward with or without him, having a whole summer in limbo with the Nasri/Fabregas situations has been beyond frustrating and with the season kicking off in 3days i find it really poor all round that this has been allowed to happen. If we have targets that are to be bought depending on those two leaving then this should have been sorted out by the end of june at the latest one way or another. I really feel the club have left it too late now to strengthen all the areas we need (ball winning midfielder, Centre Back, Left back) as well as a playmaker if Nasri/Fabregas both go (Mata would be ideal)

EDIT: though if we came out of this with Nasri and Fabregas being sold and Mata, Cahill and a Ball winner being signed i would actually be pretty happy.

I do wonder how some of the fans going through the doomsday histrionics now will cope if the club really does fall on dark days.

How dark are you talking here? Relegation, mid table, Europa League or just plain old nowhere near as good as United, Chelsea and City and apparently less visibly ambitious than Liverpool? Isn't it enough that our best players want out, we don't invest, our youth isn't all we thought it would be, quite a bit of the squad is shit, under worked and over paid and we're now 60%odd American with worse to possibly come? How doomsday does it need to get for the Arsenal before you lose your faith and optimism? I'm all over this Club in terms of support, nearly forty years and thousands spent. I've seen dark and it was OK at the time. I've seen people knit and do quizzes at games and laugh and still enjoy it. I've seen light and joy too and the threat of falling back into the dark is worrying.

Histrionics to you is normal worry for others. Are there any massively brilliant facts or reasons to be cheerful that you're keeping to yourself carlito? Things we might not have thought of and posted already. Not your strong point, admittedly.

EDIT: Yeah, remind us all how amazing Diaby is going to be this season again. Cheer us up :) .

As worried as i am about the coming season i'm still kinda excited... strange

There's always excitement in the build up to a new season, no matter how much of a shit summer we have managed to have. But if Cesc leaves and Nasri follows and there are no serious buys, this could be the season when we drop out of the top four. That or Diaby becomes good.

How are we going to strengthen other areas without signing two players, if one is Mata?

What i mean is i'd rather sign Mata to cushion the loss of Fab and Nasri aswell as signing any of a left back, centre back and ball winning midfielder (preferably all)

True true, do you feel we would have to sign two players if Nasri and Fab go? I feel just signing Mata would be enough provided we strengthen other areas.

Yea I would take that too. If Nasri leaves (assuming Man City are really crazy enough to pay £20m for someone with a year left on his contract) and Cesc goes for the £35m mentioned above <_< Mata will be what £20m? £25m even? That leaves £30m to buy one or two more of centre back/left back/defensive midfielder (although I think the last one is remote.) But at the pace we make transfers we should have them all wrapped up by the 31st.

Of January.

We needed to add players like Mata even if they stayed. Our squad is threadbare! £29m + £5m over a 5 year period is a scandalous fee. I know there's a further possible £6m on top of that depending on Barcelona's success, but it's outrageous if it's true.

It least the saga is finally coming to an end. It just seems like we are getting our pants pulled down over the deal.

The Milky Bars will be on me if that happens. In fact I'll post you all a Rolo if he manages to string together six consecutive starts throughout the entire campaign. What did we turn down for him? £10m, odd? Fair enough, he can play. Just like I can kill someone in Modern Warfare once in every nine games. You wouldn't want me on your team though  .

I doubt it but will live in hope....

RVP to be captain with TV vice :)

You should never ever have a forward as a captain. It should always be a defender of a central midfielder who can see the shape of the team. I'd give it to Thomas Vermaelen.

I agree with you Steve but we are not going to get that now as it looks like both are leaving, so i was just looking at the best thing for us in our current situation.

@Daley Man city paid £18mil for de jong when they could've got him for free 6months later so nothing would suprise me with them.

Oooh you bastard you edited it before I could make my hilarious "What as much as £10" quip.

If/when Cesc & Nasri go we're gonna need a Mata, 1 or 2 CB's, LB and a holding CM. I would even say a striker 'cos when RVP gets injured who exactly is gonna come in and do close to as good a job?

I would also like to get rid of a few before the window closes. Eboue, Almunia & Bendtner for example.

I'm somehow still convincing myself to be optomistic here, I actually think we can do all this business in the next 3 weeks even though it's more than we've done in the last 3 years altogether. What I seriously can't get into is Diaby.

Can we all just please pretend he doesn't exist? At least until all this mess is a bit sorted.

Thanks.

Last three captains. Vieria = sold. Henry = sold. Cesc = sold?

Mmmmm....

Abou, come into my office, i've got a surprise for you.
