It's really starting to look like Cesc will be off anytime soon and I would say Nasri will be off too.

Matta & Gervinho to replace Nasri & Arshavin out wide. Hopefully Arshavin can now be used in a more central role.

And the replacement for Cesc can be Aaron (just like a new signing) Ramsey.

Also, what have I missed? Why is Szczesny number 13 and not 1?

Chamakh to Roma (mentioned in the guardian rumour thing) is probably a made up rumour, but if there is any truth to it then they're likely to get him as they're really rich now aren't they?

That'd be...Strange.

No1 is not currently free. If Almunia leaves before the squads have to be submitted then I guess it could change, but that seems unlikely. We've never been a club that really gives a shit about the allocation of its squad numbers.

Dunno what to believe and I don't normally trust guillem ballague but he has said via twitter that mata's release clause of 17mil ran out yest....

If they've agreed a price, they've agreed a price.

I think he'll be in and Fabregas gone by the end of the week and then nothing else (except probably a few kids, natch). Everton are too determined to sell Jagielka cheaply and I'm getting the impression Wenger doesn't really want to go for Samba for whatever reason.

Sid Lowe also said something similar.

As I said, Arsenal would now have to pay more than two days ago and may encounter resistance (before, they wouldn't have).

Not sure why we wouldn't have had resistance two days ago but the cheap clause thing seems to have some backing.

Surely we aren't gonna start the season without adding at least 1 CB.

AW must know we are very very weak at the back.

It's hard to know what AW can see of the team's shortcomings. I know it's just pre-season but he keeps saying after games how proud of the team he is because they "played very well for sixty minutes" and ignoring the throwing away of leads, which was something Arsenal were shit for last season. He needs to start reminding them to play for ninety minutes but it seems like we can look forward to another season of "nothing's changed"

No.

Whilst he's a massive dick, Palmer usually gets his bits of info right given that he used to have some decent contact within the club.

I'm gonna go with you and suggest that not only are we not signing anyone this week, I think we might not sign anyone else before Aug 31st.

I really hope I'm wrong, but things don't seem 'right' in terms of the way we do transfers anymore.

Guardian writers predict 5th this season, although is you watch the video Paul Doyle predicts 2nd:

My link

Not sure I agree with either, think we'll be 3rd/4th again. Man U and Chelsea will probably be above us again, but I'm guessing one of Liverpool/Man City will implode at some point this year. If Cesc leaves we might do worse, but seems less likely now Barcelona are trying to make him drop his wages to fund the move.

I know 3 signings in a week sounds impossible but this myles palmer guy is hardly AW's biggest fan, in fact he's a big critic. Also, he sometimes does seem to get a whisper or two.

Jagielka, Samba & Matta?

Anyone convinced?

I'm really trying to be.

I thought the latest rumour was Jagielka to Arsenal and Samba to Everton. If there's any truth to that at all, I'd guess that the Jagielka deal would rely on us leaving Samba alone. Mata seems less likely the more it goes on. I mean, the other day we'd signed him and he was going to be unveiled at the Emirates Cup or something, and with each passing day that he hasn't actually signed, the press reports about him seem less and less likely to be true.

It does seem weird how lots of people are so sure we'll still be a potent attacking threat once Fabregas leaves. You only have to cast your mind back to the last couple of seasons when he's been unavailable to see how clueless and flat we are without him. It was only really the Man Utd game when someone like Ramsey stepped up and did the business in his absence. It's a huge loss to the team whichever way you cut it. There won't be one player of his calibre joining this week let alone the other two you'd need for us to win the league, put it that way.

Jagielka, Enrique & Matta?

Wont be Enrique. I'm not convinced Gibbs is ready yet, but him and Traore at LB doesn't scream out in need of another player. I'd hope it's be Joey Barton. Ahem.

Regardless, Mata (now unlikely apparently), Jagielka (likely) and defensive CM would be lovely. Or a keeper.

Myles Palmer talks shit all day and has done for years.

He always used to try the old "We are going to sign someone in the next couple of weeks but I can't tell you who because my source has swarn me to secrecy" then drop some of his tragic emboldened vagueries like we are going to sign A TOP ATTACKING TALENT only for us to end up with Stepanovs or something. Now he's all bitter and whingey.

He likes to think he is close to club, but all he did was write a second rate unofficial autobiography of Wenger.

I've always thought Nasri was at his best when playing through the centre. He's not a wide player so he's wasted out there. Same as Arshavin, he HATES playing out wide.

That's where he's always played no? One of the wider positions in a front three?

He certainly didn't do much when we had to play him down the middle when RVP, Eduardo and Bendtner were all out.

I wouldn't mind Barton. He's been a cunt in the past, there's no denying that, but he's a quality footballer and seems to have calmed down a bit. On a free transfer I'd take him. We need some experience in that midfield, especially if Cesc leaves.
