Maybe. I'm not convinced the 4-3-3 suits him all that well though, and competition for attacking places will be fierce if people can stay fit for five minutes.

But of course I'd love for him to come good after what happened to him.

Not an unexpected result, but hard to take none the less. Not sure we can win the league now with everybody who is out, but we can certainly get close (much closer than we did last year anyway).

Be interesting to see how Barcelona fare against Inter. Have a feeling Mourinho might get the better of them again.

which brings me back to the liverpool thread comparision, where they want to rebuild the team around

Reina

Carragher

Gerrard

Torres

DYS?

Hang on lads, I've got an idea...

You're talking mess here. Most of us see the spine as:

Reina

Carra

Agger

Masch

Gerrard

Torres

Nobody wants to see these lot sold:

Johnson

Benayoun

Kuyt

Maxi

That leaves us with the huge problem of finding a LW and LB. 2 players, Sean, not a whole team as you have claimed twice now. I'm not sure what Liverpool thread you've been reading but I think you've missed the general gist which seems to be that most think the players are good enough and we need a couple of new additions and a new manager/owners.

If your general point is that you have stability and we don't then you're quite right. But the difference in terms of quality of the playing squads is negligible.

Our wage structure is stricter than Man U, Chels, Liverpool, Man City and in terms of willingness to pay for big money transfers you can probably stick Spurs in that group as well.

I think the below, although quite clearly not perfectly accurate, gives an idea of how Arsenal transfer policy compares:

Top 4 Transfer Spending 2004-2009

I can't comment on the other clubs, but some of those fees for the Liverpool transfers are laughably wide of the mark. Too much going out and too little coming in. I wonder why? Probably to suit the agenda that is blatantly laid out in the opening paragraph.

So as to avoid completely derailing the thread I'll just say: unlucky, Gooners. It was a good effort but what more could you do? Especially with such a depleted side away from home. Now, win the league please.

With Chamakh coming, I can see Wenger going back to 4-4-2. In the bigger games though, perhaps Van Persie on the left with Chamakh up top in a 4-3-3.

I hope Van Persie can atleast have a full season. Every time he's in form, he then picks up a long term injury. Arsenals problem is that the formations and tactics seem to be too open in the big game and a lot of the times you are exploited through the counter attack. You can't approach a game against Chelsea or Man Utd like you would do against Hull or Burnley. They need to get the balace right, and tell Clichy to stop running off like a headless chicken up front. Theres been quite a number of times he's been exploited now this season.

 @ that video.

Is anyone else a bit concerned that Chamakh could step on Bendtner's toes a bit?

Mr Fuck Yea's toes? Nobody steps on Mr Fuck Yea's toes. He might let you tickle them for a bit. But only if you ask nicely. From what i've seen of Chamakh he could play in any of the three forward roles.

In an international friendly? Nah, he'll probably shatter his spine trying to take his seat on the team coach for our first away fixture of the new season.

I really hope this Chamakh transfer is as much as a done deal as it's being made out to be. I've been watching a fair bit of french football (thanks to a french friend of mine, he's even got be checking out brest from league 2) and he's all kinds of awesome. I'm kinda excited about it now.

This is probably true.

But of all the positions we need replacing, a target man is quite near the bottom of the list...

"Hi Mr. Gift Horse...could I look in your mouth?"

Andrey Arshavin will appear on tonight's episode of the BBC One sports quiz 'A Question of Sport'.

The Russian midfielder will join host Sue Barker and team captains Phil Tufnell and Matt Dawson from 7:30pm (UK time) on BBC One this Friday evening.

Can he speak?

Not sure if "I am Gooner" will help him.
