If we made a mistake, it was starting Walcott instead of Eboue. At 3-1 his appearance could have spurred a goal again, but by the second half he just isn't a threat. But really, who cares? If you're going to go out, do it against Barcelona. Equally, 3rd in the league when predictions said we would drop away this year is a great achievement.

We're not there yet, but...we're getting there.

So another trophyless season. Where do we go from here? Without a Man City style investment in the squad, we will always come up short. We will only have a chance with the league if Man United and Chelsea throw it away. As for Europe, we'll never win it. Ever.

It's a case of missing TOO many players, and it's missing the spine (Gallas,Fabregas,Van Persie) but what can you do, this shit always seems to happen to us. I dunno if alot of investment is needed just a bit more luck. Like the luck all top teams get.

We are nowhere near. We only have 1 world class player, a paper thin squad, little money to spend...

Last season we simply wouldn't have got back to 2-2 last week. We wouldn't have beaten Wolves at the weekend. Next season, we might have enough to come closer to winning this second leg. Closed season is about keeping what we've got, if we get a chance to add anyone to it then that is great. But if we keep it together, the rapidly ageing Chelsea and Man Utd. squads are looking a lot less scary.

Can someone change the thread subtitle to A Thread of Excuses. Arsenal have been largely outplayed over two legs - in the first leg, it should have been 4-0 or 5-0 after 20 minutes so to still be in it after the first game was lucky.

Messi is absolutely out of this World - if Argentina even have a half decent squad, they're going to be hard to stop at the World Cup with Messi. Sky TV hype is usually just that, hype. Hype surrounding Messi though is something he seems to live up to. He's 22.

Oh God, give it a rest. We've lost to the best team in the last twenty years, without numerous key players, and we're still in the league title race in April. Your constant pessimism about everything to do with Arsenal is tiring and ridiculous.

Yeah with half a team in both games. If we'd had a virtually fully fit 11 and got outplayed then yes that'd be that but that's not the case

I'm tired of hearing people bang on about how good we are and how we are making progress. We're not making progress! Europe's elite seem streets ahead of us. Every time we come up against a good team we get whacked and all people can say afterwards is crap like "ah never mind, we are getting there!". 5 years I've been hearing that!

What with Man City winning the league this year and all.

Oh, wait. Maybe that isn't the answer.

Off the ball, Arsenal were an embarrassment. No pressure, even in the middle of the park...I just don't understand the thinking. It reminded me a lot in when they played Celtic at the start of the season, only with the roles reversed.

There were few shit ref decisions against them too. Still though, Barca were awesome.

If you can't see the progress that has been made on last season, you're watching a different team to me. If we had a goalkeeper, we'd be top of the league right now.

Fuck knows what you'd be like if you were supporting mid-table mediocrity year in, year out.

I said we need investment in the squad. RVP never lasts a season and there's no replacement for him. If we lose our first choice centre backs we have the frightening option of Silvestre to step in. The goalie situation hasn't been addressed since we let Lehmann go and we need some quality in midfield.

Football is a squad game and we simply can't cope with injuries as the squad lacks depth and quality.

and Zlatan.

Thats one or two half decent players right there :bye:

Strangely, teams that are the best in the world have better spares than those that are still developing. Like it matters if you have Milito in instead of Puyol - having Silvestre in instead of Gallas is a completely different matter.
