Just seen the goal. I wish Almunia would just fuck off.

I tried to avoid MoTD but turned over as the game was coming to an end. I watched on cos I knew I had to see how their goal came about and it was no surprise to see Almunia flapping like a buffoon as usual. It's actually pathetic to see. I've said some things about Wenger this season that were wrong but he's got a massive blind spot when it comes to keepers. It's embarrassing for the Club.

We've been an average keeper short of the title this season.

I genuinely think we'd have won the league at least two more times if we had signed Shay Given when Seaman called it a day. A great keeper can earn you 10 points a season. What's so frustrating is that Given wouldn't have cost the earth, even if it was £10m winning silverware and the monies that come with it would have more than made up for the initial outlay.

Buffon.

Buffon in, buffoon out.

Iniesta out of Wednesday apparently, a doubt for the return too.

Cesc:

"I've always said that I'm happy at Arsenal. I can say a thousand times that I won't go to a Spanish club but nobody believes me," he added.

"Arsenal is my home and I don't have any plans to leave."

Not sure when that was said though.

If it's not Cesc leaving in the summer (re that rumour I posted about earlier) I can only think Eduardo or Arshavin. I can't see where Eduardo fits in right now and if we buy another striker he's the obvious one to go IMO.

Buffon is old.

Is Xavi still injured too? :P

I can see a 2-1 win at the Emirates without Xaviesta, then a tonking at Camp Nou.

edit: didn't Eduardo only just sign a new contract

He's 32! That's no where near old for a keeper.

I'd throw money at him or Akinfeev. Or Hart. I'd like Hart.

If that bullshit, attention grabbing-sounding story is true about someone leaving, it'll be Gallas, blates.

You'd never shell out enough for Buffon, even at 32 he's worth £30m to Juve at least.

But we've got a 90million quid war-chest. :P

He'd cost alot, no doubt, but it'd be a real 'investment' into the team that could be worth it.

Akinfeev and Hart would be 10+ each at any rate.

Not that it matters, he won't buy a keeper. Unless he can get Sorenson this time around.

I think you'd do well to go after Hart, he has a wealth of potential and would help you guys get your quota of English players up for the future.

Someone else I was very impressed with when I saw him play in the u21s tournament was Manuel Neuer, he's got a lot of potential.

I can't imagine Arshavin going. He seems to really suit Arsenal and it sounds as if he enjoys it there.

Yeah, correct. He likes it cos he can dolly about for most of the game and do fuck all without getting a bollocking. If those one or two moments of utter class don't happen he's more or less a passenger for 90 minutes. I mean, I like him and all..

How about the Lyon keeper? Hugo Lloris? He has the advantage of being good, young and French.

But then again being Lyon and the current France number 1 they will probably want actual money though right? Rather than the torn fiver and the signed DVD of the Invinvcibles season that we usually offer teams for their players.

We obviously played Lyon in the CL group stages and Lloris really impressed me. Looked to be a really good all round keeper.

Yeah, he's very good and would cost a lot. I'd say there are a few you should be looking at in Europe that won't cost as much but are definitely good enough for Arsenal, and a massive improvement over Almunia:

Neuer

Asenjo

Adler

De Gea

The problem is, unless you're willing to shell out a big fee on a world class 'keeper, you're going to have to buy potential. I know that doesn't sit well with some of you guys but great number ones are hard to come by and even the ones that have only recently established themselves will usually go for big money. I'd be wary of any 'keeper that plays for a shit team and pulls off loads of saves as well. You need somebody that doesn't lose concentration when they've had fuck all to do but watch the game in front of them for the best part of a half. Reina is finally starting to get the plaudits he deserves as a top 'keeper but I still hear little mention of his concentration, which is outstanding. He may have only one save to make in a game (well, that's not often been the case this season but it has been in years gone by) and you can always rely on him to be alert and prepared for it.

Indeed. It's a very different job being a top team's 'keeper and as you say, having one save to make a game and being ready and able to make it, and being a struggling team's 'keeper who is gonna be bombarded week in week out. David James is a classic example. Fantastic ability but just could not cut it at a big club.

Anyway it is clear now that Arsenal need a keeper in the summer, all Arsene has to do is fill the gap as well as he filled the problem centre back spot last summer with Vermaelen. Easy right?

That's exactly what Seaman was at his peak. He went on a bit too long but he was pretty amazing.

That was who I had in mind as I was typing. He would literally have zero to do for most of the game and be strolling around his box with his arms behind his back and then have one huge save to make and he would be ready. Most of the time.

I remember being in the stand for that, as I'm sure you do. Time actually slowed down as we looked around hoping someone could explain what had happened. Amazing.

Exactly. Couldn't see a replay as it was at Old Trafford so we were all slightly confused as to how it stayed out.

I love the natural reactions of fans at football matches. Thousands of people behind the goal raise their arms to celebrate then stop when it is saved, then all hold their heads when it is blasted over all in unison.

Alumnia cost us the game, we need a new keeper! I think he's cost us at least 2-3 games this season.

It seems unlikely that we will win the league now, but you never know. Plus 4 points off the top after 32 games isn't all that bad really. I'm jut glad that the team seems to be getting better. Diaby, Nasri and Song have all come on leaps and bounds this year. New keeper, center back and Chamakh in the summer not too much to ask. Oh and hopefully Cesc will stay...

Pumped for the Barcelona game, think the first leg will be close.

Conversely, he saved the game against West Ham.

You're not suggesting he's any good are you? I actually think he's one of the worse keepers in the League right now and a serious weak point in the team.
