Sorry to drag this a bit OT, Gooners, but I had to reply to this. I can't believe you've posted this, Shevchenko. He has been outstanding for them. He recently went through a dry patch as you pointed out, however, he has consistently played well in that time. He allows the forwards and midfield to make their runs into pockets of space by holding it up well and has also shown a great eye for a pass. His movement off the ball is great and his presence alone leaves the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta loads of space to play in. I don't think it is coincidence that they have dominated since signing him. They look a far better side with him playing, compared to when they had Eto'o leading the line. He's got 12 in 19 in the league and at least half a dozen assists. He's been brilliant for them, the goals are almost just a bonus.

In an attempt to post something related to Arsenal I'll just say that I think Fabregas will likely slot into the 3 in midfield, with Iniesta moving wide. Iniesta spends a lot of time out there already anyway.

Regarding Iniesta first, it isn't his best postion though. He can play there and do a decent job, but you not going to get the best out of him. Against Chelsea in both matches he dominated the game when he played in the centre, he wasn't as effective when he played in the second leg on the left wing for the first 60 mins.

Regarding Ibrahimovic, he hasn't been amazing as you described him otherwise he wouldn't go 2 months without scoring. He had a good spell at the start, but since the Madrid match he has been inconsistent and making reckless challenges. Barca haven't been as amazing as they were last season, yeah they may have had one defeat, but they had a few lucky escapes and a few dodgy referee calls. They even struggled in their champions league group. Ibrahimovic looks out of place and sometimes not on the same radar as the other Barcelona players. Messi has suffered at times because of it. At times last season when Messi was quiet in games they could push him in the centre whilst pushing Eto'o out wide. They can't do that with Ibrahimovic. They much more predictable with him in the team. They looked far better with Eto'o in the team. I don't think he was the striker they wanted last summer as Villa was first choice, but Guardiola wanted Eto'o out badly.

Lehmann on that penalty

‘Man U won a penalty on a dive by Van Nistelrooy,’ says Lehmann. ‘All of a sudden there was a big clash of players and everybody punched each other.

‘But the referee didn’t book anyone!

'So Van Nistelrooy had this chance to score in the 88th minute and he’d never failed before from the spot. But this time he hit the crossbar. The game ended 0-0.

As it widens, Lehmann says: ‘Fan-tastic! I realised that day how fantastic football in England was. I called home and said, “It’s fantastic, the people here punch and push each other and they don’t even get booked!” Fan-tastic.’

The smile stayed. Lehmann was rewinding to September 2003, to only his eighth Arsenal game, to Old Trafford, to Ruud van Nistelrooy, Martin Keown, Patrick Vieira’s red card and one of the dust-ups of the decade.

The strangest thing about that was Puyol actually held out his hand in apology afterwards.

And Lehmann shoved him away! :)

Still, an absolute legend for us. What would Arsene give to find another goalie like that for £2.50 or whatever it was we signed him for.

They should so play in that gear. I am convinced that it would automatically make Eboue 50% better and it would be hilarious to see a midget Bjorn Borg lookalike in a headband running about the place.

EDIT: Can you imagine Diaby playing in that? Vermaelen with a dodgy tache and small shorts breaking people. Unfortunately it would also remove what little credibility Almunia has left, leaving a bemulleted Fabianski to claim the number 1 spot.

Does anyone know if we've signed that Brazillian Wellington kid?

Didn't we sign him about a year ago and then loan him out (Souith America somewhere) until he could get a work permit, was old enough, or something like that?

I'm sure he played in a reserve or youth game for us and scored 4 goals when he came on for the 2nd half.

Someone help 'cos I'm sure I didn't imagine all of this.

Definitely true: I read that on Arseblog recently. I'm sure one of the Arsenal Reserve or Youth blog sites will have info on there.

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/h...sults-announced

* Profit before tax of £35.2m (2008 - £24.5m) with increased contributions from both the Group’s football and property businesses.

* Sale of 261 apartments at Highbury Square generated revenue of £96.6m (2008 - £58.4m) with all proceeds used in repayment of the project’s bank debt. The Group’s property business recorded a pre-tax profit of £9.3m (2008 - £4.9m).

* Pre-tax profit from the Group’s core business of football increased to £25.8m (2008 - £19.7m).

* Completed first stages of a programme of capital investment in the appearance and “Arsenalisation” of Emirates Stadium.

* Further significant investment in determined policy of re-signing first team players to new long-term contracts.

* By 30 November 2009, the Group’s total net debt had been reduced to £203.6m (31 May 2009 - £332.8m).

* Since 30 November, there have been a number of further positive developments in relation to the Group’s property projects:

* Of the 655 private apartments in the Highbury Square development, sales have now completed on 524 units with a cumulative sales revenue value of £217.0m.

* The balance on the Highbury Square bank loan has been further reduced, from £35.7m at 30 November, to £12.9m (31 May 2009 – £123.6m).

* Sale of part of the Queensland Road development site means that the Group’s other property activities are now debt free.

There are some rather large decreases in debt there. I just wonder if that will be of any significance. A huge dirty great profit is pretty much standard for us these days but these decreases in debt could be significant.

Interesting, good find.

I'd like to think that if we end up without any silver this season Arsene will see sense, compromise and buy three really good players to supplement the blossoming squad. I seriously doubt it though. I wonder if everyone at the Club is on the make somehow, prior to a takeover.

That is a huge reduction compared to a couple of years ago. The biggest difference will come from the interest payments, when they become essentially negligible then we are golden. It is a double bonus being essentially debt free, we would have our usual profit bolstered by the money we would spend paying off debt from the last few years. Although we have to be wary how much of the money has come from the one-time property development at Highbury and is not ongoing. It will take a few years before we see how good the Grove is at generating revenue but it is apparently producing an absolute shit-ton of revenue, hopefully that continues.

Ha! Read it & weep Scousers and Mancs :(

Yeah, but you never know what's around the corner.

After all the shouting and negativity is said and done I think I'd rather we stayed conservative, top four with potential rather than be bought out, have shit loads of money thrown at it and live with the possible consequences.
