Ahead of Sunday's trip to Chelsea Arsène Wenger gave his usual pre-match exclusive interview to Arsenal TV Online.

As well as discussing the forthcoming fixture the Frenchman revealed that he had worked throughout Monday in an attempt to bring in a new signing before the transfer window shut.

'We were very, very close to new signing'

Shame we won't be very, very close, very close or even a little bit close to winning anything. Why does he say rubbish like this?

This is annoying as hell. It was obvious to every man and his dog that we need a striker but Wenger left it too late and now we've got a suspect front line for the rest of the season. This is going to bite us in the ass.

Yeah, I wish AW wouldn't come out with this kind of bollocks. It only pisses everyone off.

We had a whole month, why were we working throughout Monday? Someone needs to tell AW that the window is open for a month and not just one day.

It's like the story he told us last year or whenever, that we came really close to signing Ronaldo before he went to utd instead, and that we were only a few thousand pounds away. He got sold for £70 million and we were a few thousand pounds away from signing him, can you beleive that? a few thousand pounds!!

As for Walcott, I'm in the camp of run out of patience, don't think he's gonna make it unfortunately.

That said, I fancy us to win at Chelsea on Sunday

Maths With Merse: What makes 11 on a table and makes me shit myself? Two lines of coke!
Does it count as shitting yourself if it's all liquid?
Did the last of my gak. The line was barely half an inch and I had to do it off the bailiff's office table
Am I crying because I've shit myself or did I shit myself because I started crying and lost control?
Mum's crying

I don't really have any expectations going in to this Sunday's match. After the shock of the United performance, I really don't know what the result will be. It could go one way or the other. Quite looking forward to finding out.

We'll probably win and then lose 4 points or so against Sunderland and Stoke.

Are Bendtner or Eduardo fit for you guys on Sunday? I'd think you need one of them for a bit of aerial presence to get at Terry. Arshavin would be much better used on the left wing against Ivanovic.

Eduardo is out. Bendtner is in the squad I believe.

Walcott will be fine, but maybe he doesn't need to go to the World Cup. Besides, if we sell him, he'll end up scoring loads of goals against us later. Or something.

But yeah, you'd have to pick Lennon over Walcott in the England squad at the moment, right?

I'd pick John Lennon over Walcott at the moment.

I'd pick John Lennon over Walcott, probably for the rest of their careers.

I think AW is just winding us up now.

Yeah, Eduardo & Vela are out, Bendtner is in & Diaby will have a fitness test.

As for Walcott, with England and going to the world cup, Lennon is definitely ahead of him. Milner is probably ahead of him too, he's also got to be behind Beckham and SWP come to think of it. It's not all bad though, at least he's ahead of Bentley.............isn't he?

Lennon has some serious injury issues at the moment. This is Theo's chance to really get a decent run of games under his belt and cement his place in the Arsenal line up and the England team. He's been well off the pace this season, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Wouldn't have him starting tomorrow mind you, I'd prefer Nasri there.

You must be mistaken-it's very, very difficult to have a good game when you're a massive gaping cunt.

Really? Must remember to tell Cristiano Ronaldo that next time I see him...

Bentley has shown he's outrageously talented but has got a stinking attitude and has never been able to get a run of form together in his career. Harry's probably told him to buck his ideas up or he's off to Sunderland or something.

From what he's said recently it appears he's finally grown up and realised he's a professional athlete rather than a celebrity, the wazzock.

This will sound mildly hypocritical, but the thing with Ronaldo is that if you look at him objectively, he's no more of a cunt than most other footballers, the difference is that he is insanely talented and, despite not being my taste is quite good looking. Hence, we all call him a cunt when in most cases it's either jealousy or a reaction to the fact that he's the most skilful footballer since Ronaldinho.

David Bentley is a raging bell-end of the highest order, with little in the way to back it up.

Good hair at the moment though.

I don't like Arsene saying third is still a great position at the end of the year and it doesn't matter if we lose at Chelsea because we've come back before. It's almost as if we're admitting defeat.

That's not all he said!

Arsène Wenger believes it is harder to finish in the top three of the Premier League than win a domestic cup competition.

The Arsenal manager has scooped seven major trophies during his time with the Club – and been a whisker away from many more – and he would like to end his career with as much silverware as possible.

But Wenger insists that success cannot be measured by trophies alone and is just as proud of his team’s consistency in the Champions League over the past decade.

"It's very important that we win something, we're here to win trophies, but it depends on what you call trophies**,” he explained.

“Is it the Champions League, the Premier League, the League Cup? If you win the League Cup you cannot say you win trophies for me.

“Of course [finishing third is better than winning a domestic cup]. It's much more difficult.

“I want to win trophies and, like the fans, I'm frustrated if I don't. But a season does not go from fantastic to zero. A season in the English league, when you fight with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa, to finish in the top three is still not a disaster.

"It's not enough because you want to win trophies. But it doesn’t say: 'oh what a terrible season that was.' We've just qualified from the group stage in the Champions League for the tenth consecutive season.

"That is, for me, three times as difficult as winning the League Cup five times. I know what's difficult and what's not difficult.

"But I know people want to parade with a trophy and if you don't win a trophy you can't do that. But it doesn't mean the rest of the season has been completely useless."

**I was under the impression that they are them big shiny silver things.
