I think Eduardo's lost his bottle, and who can blame him?

I don't think it's got anything to do with bottle, he's had chances that I'd put my house on him finishing and he's missed them all. Maybe all that Celtic malarkey has had an effect on him? He's not the same player.

He tried his best to miss that goal on Saturday, what a shank!

Yeah, that was amazing. The magnitude of my facepalm if he did miss would have been earth shattering.

As a load of people are saying, I hope that goal goes some way in getting the lads confidence back up. He's had a torrid time of it this season and we badly need him to get back to some sort of form.

Talking about form and such, it'd be nice if that game had a positive effect on Al. What with the penalty save and clean sheet and all. Sure, we still need a new keeper but to have him play better would be of a fucking huge benefit.

Anyway, it was a great weekend with man u and chelsea dropping points. We played shit for most of the hull game and still won. Sign of champions yada yada yada. I've always thought that was a load of shit and I still do. We had a bit more fight in us, I think, and that made the difference. That and a bit of luck.

The game on Sunday will be a big one.

I thought we played quite well, especially the second half. We dominated the game and Hull were chasing shadows for practically all the second half. Diaby had a stinker yet still managed to score, amazing

I wish we had picked Given up this summer. Man City paid about 8.5m for him. What a bargain.

As good a goalkeeper as Given is, if you watch the way he plays, he doesn't come for crosses; he stays on his line and tries to deal with what happens afterwards. Obviously he's very good at that, but you have to balance out the fact that goalkeepers who do that don't help out their defence anywhere near as much as more proactive keepers do (and get the benefit of not looking silly when they come for a cross and miss it). Ultimately it's about how few goals you concede by whatever means, not how good you look making saves, and personally I'd suggest with the centre-halves at Arsenal, somebody a little more proactive on crosses is required. Lehmann at his very best, or David James from two years ago would be perfect.

The problem is there just aren't many good keepers around right now. For my money Friedel has been the best keeper in the league since Cech lost his game, but obviously he's not going anywhere. From what I've seen Fabianski seems the most talented keeper at Arsenal, but young, inexperienced goalkeepers and big clubs rarely go well together. Personally I'd test Pompey's commitment to James, considering the financial troubles and the fact that the team has done well recently with Begovic deputising. If Arsenal could get him cheap then I think it would be a fine piece of business, albeit a short term fix.

Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo has been voted the worst player in Serie A according to an annual poll organised by Italian radio station RAI. The former Fiorentina enforcer, who looked to be on his way to Arsenal in the summer, was a high-profile €20.5m acquisition by the bianconeri but has since struggled to adapt to life in the higher echelons of Serie A.

Touted as a possible successor to the likes of Gunner pair Gilberto Silva and Patrick Vieira, the physical defensive midfielder had impressed Arsene Wenger with his performances at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and with Dunga’ Brazilian national team at the Confederations Cup.

Eventually outmuscled in the transfer market by Juve, the move to Turin has been deemed an unmitigated disaster in the Italian press. Recently withdrawn from a match against Cagliari after 32 minutes and booed off the field of play by his own fans, Melo is now expected to be transfer listed in the New Year.

I expect they'll pass him onto us for a profit.

Agree with Friedel - he's immense. Odd that the US produces so many good keepers at the moment. I rate Sorensen very highly, at 33 he's at his peak as a keeper too - but probably too old for Arsene.

He sounds brilliant. Just what we need, someone with no confidence and who takes an age to settle in. Is he injured?

I'd still buy him. He's a really good player who is only going to get better - ease him in this season, regular starter next season.

Just managed to log on. Summary of the first 20 mins please?

First 10 or so mins were all Arsenal. Eduardo shot straight into Friedel's arms from maybe five yards out; anything either side of him and it would have been a guaranteed goal. Then Villa got their act, and their shape, together.
