Arsenal

Ok. I'll bite. You are clearly wrong. What is the greatest team English football has seen?

We now have two defenders that can score from set pieces! I can't remember the last time we had that! (I can, but it was too long ago)

The Liverpool team of the 70s obviously, probably the greatest team the World has ever seen... watch some games if you can find them.

Yeah the problem is when they don't; you're wide open for a counter. Seriously man, I watch in bewilderment sometimes at your CBs turning into strikers! Arsenal have a squad worthy to contend on ability, I would say you definately need a new keeper, Almunia isn't ever going to inspire confidence. Apart from that though barring injuries, the players are good enough.

The biggest problem is the lack of heart, and most importantly the 'but that's not fair' attitude that seems to run through Arsenal. Too quick to shift blame and find excuses, some of them need to man the fuck up and get stuck in. You really need someone who won't stand for anything less than 100% commitment and effort out on the pitch from his team-mates. You don't have that now. When Adams was captain you had them all over the pitch. Then you had Viera, Campbell. The last player you had that would kick arse if he didn't like what he saw, as much as I couldn't stand him, was Lehmenn. Now there's no one.

What a fantastic goal from van Persie, that touch and shot was sublime. When the team is not having it's best game and you're under pressure that sort of ruthlessness is essential. As is having a keeper on top form, what a game Mannone had.

Just need Steve007 to come and tell us how shit he was now, and how he's not even good enough for the Conference.

(Some of those saves weren't that great; he did make the most of the 'stretching mid air' ones.)

Ol' RvP's chocolate comes good again. Is it wrong to suggest that it was a very Bergkamp-like touch and finish? Probably. But it was wonderfully done, either way.

His command of the box was excellent too.

That's what stood out for me. The clash with Gallas was plainly Willy's fault and after that Mannone seemed to step it up and really take charge. The rest of the team congratulating him after the stops was great to see and it's nice to hear Mannone talk about raising his confidence and being pleased about his performance.

The players talk alot about the great team spirit they have 'now' and I for the first time in a while yesterday I felt that collective desire overcoming over issues: at one point late in the second half Mannone made a great point blank save and the ball dropped 3 yards out, only to be cleared away by RvP. I enjoyed that. Alot.

Still, Simples was wank yesterday. Should've started with Sicky imo; if the player is ready, and Arshavin didn't look ready, don't bloody rush them back. Plus I have a huge man-cruch on Sicky; the big whore-loveing, coke-sniffing leg end that he is.

I'd have just started Rosicky instead of Diaby - he was woeful yesterday. He's rapidly running out of chances.

Not in Wenger's eyes it seems.

I like Diaby and I think he could be incredible but some days, like yesterday, he can't even get the basics right. It's the example of needing players to push the 'first team' to make sure that they're not putting in rubbish performances and staying in the team.

Having said that, I'd play Wilshere there and think Wenger needs to start bring Wilshere into Prem games. I know he's really young but he really is very, very good.

The Diaby Wenger relationship reminds of one between an abused spouse and their partner. No matter how many times they're beaten or their trust broken, they refuse to leave them or admit anything is wrong. No matter how obvious and maddening it is to everyone else.

Diaby has been, on a whole, shit. Yesterday he was very bad. Wenger needs to stop playing him.

Bender is out of the Big Cup game after twatting his Aston into the central reservation. Only bruised though.

Denilson on the other hand is out for a couple of months with a fractured spine. :D

Fractured spine? That sounds bad. Hopefully a couple of months doesn't actually mean about six months.

Can't Diaby get injured too? At least that way AW might play someone who doesn't always look like they've never seen a football before and have no idea what to do with it.
