It saddens me when a player of Eduardo's ability has to resort to diabolically shit tactics like diving. Talk about sullying your own good name.

Idiot.

I'm an Arsenal fan by the way, but that was some shameless shit.

Fair play, but I don't really get the hysterical reaction from some quarters. This shit happens all the time. The Guardian has a blog post up purely about Eduardo's dive, which seems utterly absurd. If people are going to use the incident to discuss ways to discourage diving in future then I guess that's fine, but vilification of a single player is ridiculous when the problem is so endemic in football. Literally every club has players, both foreign and English, that dive.

^ What them two said.

It's no worse than what Gerrard or Drogba or any number of other players regularly do. I don't condone Eduardo's actions but they are symptomatic of a game that actively rewards cheating if it can be gotten away with.

I didn't think Diaby looked that good last night? Misplaced passes, too slow on the ball and gave away possession too easily.

Eboue has a really good game. Gallas and Vermaelen were excellent.

To be fair, Celtic were pretty poor.

Celtic were poor and we weren't really "playing with the handbrake off". We also started with Arshavin and RVP on the bench and still looked very comfortable.

Like I said, Saturday will be a real test for this team. Cesc could be out but that wouldn't be too fatal.

I hear what you guys are saying. If Lampard, Drogba, Gerrard, Ronaldo et al are gonna do it, why shouldn't we? But then on the flipside, I think it's hypocritical of me if I'm going to slag them off one minute while condoning Eduardo's the next. I just wish referees would toughen up on this kinda thing. I'm probably being unrealistic.

On to better things: that lad Vermaelen huh? He looks like an utter steal.

Sometimes I like to think that maybe, just maybe, something in the players head is causing them to make a reaction AS IF they had been hit, because that's what their brain is expecting, like when you go to hit a serve that ends up in the net in badminton.

But shit eating grin says no.

Time for some third refs who can see replays for penalty decisions me thinks, at least for when the ball has rolled safely out of play afterwards.

Their goal was so annoying because of the excellently commited block Vermaelen threw himself into only seconds earlier. Nice little interchange with Denilson up front as well.

Denilson had a fantastic game, as did our defence plus Song. Was great to see Ramsey and Wilshere coming on with an assist for the former and an agonisingly close through-ball from the latter which would have been amazing. Eboue seemed to enjoy his position and an assured touch and finish for his goal.

Horrible to see Eduardo dive, though :)

I don't think any of us are condoning the actions of Ed on the basis that other players from other teams also dive. Not at all. I think we're all a little miffed with our crozillian for what he did.

I think the point most want to make here is that we should look to get rid of diving and not just slag of players that do.

And yes, I too am developing quite the man crush on Vermaelen

UEFA to investigate:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/8223917.stm

Amazing how they investigate one of our players but do nothing about dozens of other players who dive, fake an injury, flob in another players face & racially abuse people!

Regarding Celtic, they are very bitter but Their team were an absolute joke. From their performances against us I'm convinced they wouldn't even survive the Championship. They were totally out of their depth playing in the Champions League.

That's utterly fucking disgusting.

So they'll look into this, but everyone turns a blind eye when Rooney dives to steal the unbeaten streak from us. Same goes when we were done by Liverpool in the CL.

UEFA can suck my testes. I feel a lone booing of the CL theme from myself at The Grove this year.

Rubbish, they kept the ball well in midfield, generally defended well but lacked a bit of bite up front. Celtics home record in Europe wouldn't be duplicated by any Championship side, not even close - to say they're out of their depth in the CL is absurd given their performances over the last few years. Arsenal are in form at the moment, no doubt, considering we dismantled Everton 6-1 and Portsmouth 4-1 there's no shame in losing 5-1 over two legs, particularly given three of the goals were lucky/dubious. I noticed the possession stats late in the second half were 50:50, how many sides manage that at the Emirates?

Uh, Rooney diving in an EPL game isn't in Uefa's jurisdiction. This was a CL game so it's down to them.

edit: of course they are only looking at it because of all the bleating, though. I suspect if it had been against any team from mainland Europe you wouldn't have heard much about it from our media.

Celtic were woeful. We were cruising in second gear & saving ourselves for the weekend, hence the team selection. When the game was in the bag, why go all out attack?

Yes we are in form, but I don't think our players had to step up at any stage last night due to Celtic pressure as there wasn't any.

Celtic didn't have their best game but still kept the ball well. Arsenal are, what, one of the best 6 sides in Europe and in fine form at the moment, failure to overcome us hardly represents football of a sub-championship team. Insulting to say they had no place in the CL, there are far worse teams at this stage.

LFC's SG was who I used in my example to an LFC fan here in work.

There's a youtube comp called Steven Gerrard the hypocrite that does all the persuasion for you.

He's an utter, utter cunthound for it and should've been fucking hammered for it years ago.

Have WEFFER ever 'looked into' his cheating?

Have they fuck.
