It seems very strange. Probably some crazy attempt at branding or something.

"When people think of number 52, I want them to think of me!"

I just like 1-11. Always have done. I know the squad number system exists to squeeze more money out of shirt sales, but I do find myself hoping that when the new squad numbers come out then the manager will give the players who are going to play every week the decent numbers. I mean, Arshavin is going to play for you lot unless he is injured, isnt he? Why does he have the number 23 shirt?

Its a similar thing down the Villa. Marlon Harewood isnt going to get a game for us unless every other registered footballer in our first team squad (and possibly our reserves, and youth team squads) is injured or suspended, yet he gets the number 9 shirt?

(mind you, after todays fucking shambles we should give our youth team a chance in a game. They cant be any worse than the overpaid cunts who turned up against Wigan, but I digress.. )

Well, big Nick picked no. 52 as he really likes it for some reason. He even said he'd refund anyone who bought a 26 jersey.

Why Gallas is no. 10, I'm not sure.

I can't remember why exactly, but from an interview I read I recall that 10 had "special personal meaning" and also he didn't want to be associated with left back. Or something.

Didn't check the results yesterday. MotD was a pleasant surprise!

I was hoping they'd give the 10 to Arshavin this season. It does really annoy me when I see Gallas in that number. I guess the problem is that if you change numbers you piss people off who've bought the old number, hence arsenal offering to refund both the guys who got Bendtner #26 on their shirts.

Man Utd have sensible numbers in general, as do Villa. If you think they're silly here though, check them out in Italy or south America. Ronaldinho wears #80 for Milan!

I love it when that happens :hmm:

When Fabregas banged in the fourth after some great passing, I literally pissed myself with excitement. Two more on top of that was too much!

Good to see Eduardo popping up at the end. Can't imagine plankebayor following up like that.

I had mixed feelings seeing Toure playing for City, but I think it's a good move all round, all though I'll no doubt regret that when we have our mid season injury crisis.

Adebayor had the work rate of his one good season. The cunt. He won't be so popular when he's offside all the time and strolling about like a dick.

Anyway. from now on I'm following Mopstar's enthusiasm!

Actually, looking at it Arsenal's 1-11 numbers are pretty sensibly allocated, apart from Gallas with 10 and Diaby with 2.

1. GK Almunia

2. MF Diaby

3. DF Sagna

4. MF Fabregas

5. DF Vermaelen

6. DF Senderos

7. MF Rosicky

8. MF Nasri

9. FW Eduardo

10. DF Gallas

11. FW Van Persie

Van der Vaart is pretty good, and at £6million that wouldn't be bad but isn't he more of an attacking midfielder?

We've got enough of those.

Very much so, to all the above.

But I like him and that would be bloody cheap (Real would lose £7m at that price!), so I don't care much.

VDV desperately wants to leave Real, but I'd imagine he'll go back to a German club -- he did very well at Hamburg and slight #10's like him do well in Germany. Certainly can't see Arsenal being interested even at £6m, as his wage demands would still be inevitably high.

Song and Denilson in midfield are pretty solid. One more CB to keep Silvestre out of the side is all Arsenal badly need.

Can't quite agree with that, we desperately need a DCM as well as a CB and probably a forward too.

The squad we have now is good enough to finish in the top 4, but we are a bit short if we want to challenge for the EPL & CL.

You might have a problem if Song gets injured for some big games, because Denilson + Cesc + Nasri/Rosicky/Diaby doesn't offer as much defensive solidity. I don't see the problem with Song + Denilson together though -- that's a hell of a lot of tackling ability there, married with excellent, simple passing from Denilson.

Agreed on the CB because Senderos and Silvestre just isn't good enough cover. I'd still expect Senderos to leave and be replaced by someone better, so that might work out okay. I can't for the life of me figure out why you think you need a forward though; you have Eduardo, RVP, Bendtner, Wilshere, Vela, Arshavin and Walcott competing for your front three positions already. Aside from central defence, Arsenal's squad has strength in depth that Liverpool fans would salivate over.

We'll definitely lose Song for a bit when he goes to the ACN, so we have a problem there for sure. If he gets injured / suspended then we could really struggle. Even if he doesn't, we should really have someone better as first choice. Denilson is ok but not really as a first 11 player, ok as a squad player though. Not a Diaby fan at all.

We are kind of ok with the forwards but maybe someone with a bit of pace would be a good option.

Denilson is criminally underrated by most Arsenal fans, it seems. He's deceptively effective: have you seen his stats for tackles won and passes completed? Not to mention the ability to pop up with the odd Everton screamer. He lacks a bit of tenacity and physical presence, but beyond that I don't know what else you could ask from a central midfielder.

When is the ACN? Could Wenger maybe bring someone in in January as cover for Song, or is it before the window? I agree he'd be a big loss -- he's improved so much since this time last year.

Re: pace -- Walcott not fast enough for you?! :blink: Eduardo and Arshavin ain't exactly slouches either when running with the ball.

I don't believe we need another forward. We really have enough options when it comes to the front three in our new 4 3 3.

I'm starting to believe Song is good enough to be seen as a first choice CM. And that's not just based on Saturdays awesomeness. Having said that, we still need to bring in cover for him should he get injured and for when he does fuck off to the ACN.

Another CB is a must really. Just for cover though.

Denilson is underrated by all of us, save for Dude. I've criticised him many times but like Fox says, he can fool us with deceptively effective performances. With us going 4 3 3 the idea of a big mean rough DMF that we all want might not be exactly what we need any more.

Anyway, the game against Celtic tomorrow should be a very intresting test.

I think it's been said here already but if we do go for a CB, they're just going to act as cover really. With the money we'd have to splash on Hangeland, and for him to just end up on the bench, i can't see Wenger doing it.

I'd be happy if Senderos stayed to be honest.

Lescott -> Man City

Senderos -> Everton

Hangeland -> Arsenal

Dunne -> Fulham

Everyone's happy (well Arsenal would be).

Not going to happen is it.

If Lescott goes, it'll be Taylor that replaces him. They might take Senderos as well due to Jagielka being injured though, I guess.
