Don't know much about him, but I'm happy.

23 and not 16, has played in Europe & is an International, was captain of Ajax, hopefully this means he's a bit orf an organiser / leader. He also seems to have grown an inch since last week. Wasn't it reported last week that he was 5'11" ?

Arsenal.com

Edit: Top 10 CB's under 6'

He's shrunk, actually. He was 5'11 to start with, then he went up to 6'1 in a correction, now he's down to 6'. I now officially have no idea how tall he is.

Good signing though...wonder if there will be any more. Especially any with "Cana" in their name.

That Melo looked a bit good yesterday didn't he?

Yeah, I'm liking the look of this Melo dude too, I hope there's some truth in the rumours.

Seen here and there that maybe Senderos can be used as a bit of a makeweight in any potential deal, who apparently enjoyed his time in Italy.

He was 5'10 yesterday according to Sky Sports News. Maybe his height fluctuates on a daily basis? :)

I've not heard 5'10 before, good spot. You're going to be great at the forthcoming half-time Vermaelen height bingo game. They'll be selling tickets for a quid a go every game and reading out various news stories. It's why Wenger has been willing to splash cash on a defender, he knows he'll get it back.

If it goes well, they're going to take it online and get Sharon Osbourne to advertise it.

Then we'll be able to get a defensive midfielder too.

It's been written here and there lately and Wenger's been talking about playing different formations next season depending on players available and stuff.

So how about trying some crazy Barcelona shit and going with a 4-3-3, something like.....

---------Almunia

Sagna---Thomas V---Gallas---Clichy

-----------Melo (hopefully) / new signing

--------Cesc---Nasri

-----Theo---RVP---Arshavin

Subs:

Fabianski

Toure

Song

Eduardo

Rosicky

Bendtner

Ramsey

Next group:

Gibbs

Djourou

Diaby

Denilson

Wilshere

Vela

Manone

Scrap/the rest:

Senderos - get rid

Silvestre - get rid

Bishoff - get rid

Adebayor - get rid

Traore - he's behind Clichy & Gibbs but no harm in keeping him I suppose

Eboue - possibly keep as cover for RB, RM, mascot or something

Merida - gotta step up a level or two soonish, he's 19 now.

Nordveit (19) & Coquelin (18) - I'd like to see these two in and around the squad a bit, see what they've got.

We seem to have a fair bit of cover in all positions apart from DM. We need a new signing that will go straight into the 1st 11.

We've got Song - improved loads and best out of what we've got

Denilson - don't think he's quite good enough

Diaby - don't rate him at all

Wonder if he’ll go 4-2-3-1, seeing as that’s the in vogue formation these days, something like:

---------Almunia

Sagna---Thomas V---Gallas---Clichy

-----------Melo/Cesc

Theo---Arshavin---Nasri

----------RVP--------------

That way he can rid of Adebayor and still have Eduardo/Bendtner as backup for RVP.

The only problem with that sort of formation is that Adebayor is so suited to it, RvP is the one who would become a bit expendable. I like RvP but I don't think this would get the best out of him; with players like Arshavin/Nasri/Fabregas as the creators Adebayor's strength and ability to hold the ball up would make him perfect for the main striker role. I know he's a dick and probably leaving but it's easy to forget how good he can be. Bendtner's looking promising but you only have to watch Adebayor play for a couple of minutes to be reminded how much better he is.

So it seems the Melo deals off again. Shame but not the end of the world anyway. Some paper talk saying we're going to go up against spurs for cana...not's non news really.

Bischoff was released. oh noes!

Also, the 3rd kit was annonuced\shown. It's white. The blogs I've read all seem to hate it with a passion, I'm sure many of you will too, but I honestly couldn't give a shit. It's just a fucking football shirt. I never understand why some fans get so worked up over it.

I doubt it was ever really "on" to be honest.

I don't think the kit is very nice, but surely after the away kit no one could be expecting anything too great could they?

My concern is their decision to include Adebayor in one of the six official promotional photos.

Please don't let this mean he is sticking with us next season. I would genuinely prefer to lose Adebayor and not get a replacement striker than have him on the pitch playing the way he was for most of last season.

I wouldn't really worry about that. Henry was in the promotional shoots for a new strip just before he left.

Well he got photoshopped out a bit before he left didn't he? The tube ones right?

I seem to remember that being one of the things that started setting off alarm bells.

Really? I don't remember that but doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Either way, I wouldn't read too much into. We need to sit tight and see what happens but I really can't see him being with us come the start of the season.

Having said that, if he is to go, the sooner the better.

Which takes the piss given that actual real money was paid for him last season. I know it wasn't much, but what a waste.

I thought it was a free transfer as his contract at Bremen had expired, or are you talking about wages?

I can't imagine his wages were too much higher than the other members of the reserves/youth team, and we lose a few of them every season. I know it's nice to recoup a few quid as we did with Larsson, Muamba etc, but I think losing young players for free is just part and parcel of the way the youth policy works at Arsenal.

Arsenal defender William Gallas says he will not sign a new contract with the Gunners and will walk away from the Emirates for free when his deal expires next summer if he is not allowed to leave this year.

More to follow.

So our best player since Christmas wants to leave (if this is to be believed).

Brilliant.

I wouldn't like Christmas so much if it threw tantrums every boxing day, slated Easter and smoked tabs.

There is no doubt that he was our best option at centreback since Toure's loss of form, but he's such a cunt I find it hard to mourn his departure even if he is leaving.

That said I would have thought it would be better for both us and him if he sees his contract out, leaves at the end of next season and bags a tidy signing on fee from whichever french club tickles his fancy and give us a bit of experience and pace at the back for another term.

The Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said something a bit wierd regarding their lanky defender Naldo.

Naldo is a great athlete and could do well at the right club. Unfortunately he doesn't fit the direction we're planning to move in any longer, We expect to move him for somewhere in the region of €10 million, and English side Arsenal is, as of now, the most likely destination"

That kind of statement seems very odd to come from the club's coach. Surely if he's good you want to keep him - I don't see how the club's "direction" could alter that. He's almost tapping down his own player with that kind of chat! You wouldn't have thought they were crazy short on money as they've already flogged Diego to Juve for big bucks. Strange.

I'd rather Gallas stays and then leaves on a free next year. We arguably need another CB as it is, let alone if the best CB at the club also leaves.

Except he's likely to sulk for the whole year and play like a tosser if he isn't allowed to go...

Surely he's more likely to really pull his finger out if he knows he's in the shop window and his future career depends on it.

Wenger confirmed interest in Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux, but only if someone leaves.

Don't remember ever seeing him play, know next to nothing about him so am fairly indifferent about this.

Even better is that le Arse might be back in for Melo - taking Eboue in the opposite direction link

Might be a good move for Eboue as he hasnt seemingly progressed for 2-3 years now and him plus £12M-15M might be good business for Arsenal to take Melo
