Ring FIFA and get them to change the rules so that if your teams is really, really terrible at defending set pieces you can apply for "Responsibility Immunity" for one clumsy thug in your squad who can conceed as many needless freekicks in his own half as he likes and the resulting set-piece goals won't count.

OK. I've fired them an email and we can see what happens.

Although I do get a little hint of a suspicion that you don't think he'd be an ace signing. When he clearly would be.

Your picture doesn't work but I expect it's Jamie Carragher as he has a similar understanding which allows him to foul people in the box without having the tedious formality of penalty kicks to contend with.

You make an excellent point! I shall stick with EBJT though as that picture makes me smile :)

Everything I hear suggests he's one of those "good to have in the changing room" type players.

By which I mean he does the morale of the team some good, not that he'd be better off left in the changing room.

Both are fair suggestions.

I think we'd be better off leaving him in the changing room and putting someone with talent on (albeit with their spirits raised)

Any of you guys watch the Serbia/Italy U21's? After the game they were saying that Arsene was interested in one of the Italian forwards only for one of the blokes to say that he was too lightweight :) No such thing for Arsene I think.

nothing, just found my redmembers renewal pack. I've missed the 08/06/09 cut-off to keep my place in the silvermembers queue, apparently

Nothing really, just a load of video clips about how brilliant the team is and how we're all wonderful as members.

Clever personalised links to renewing your membership online too.

Think that's all.

Balls. So have I then. That'll learn them for sending me a fucking CD rom which requires me to make some effort, instead of a letter telling me how much they want.

Oh, wait...

A friend of mine has got a season ticket for next year having been on the waiting list for 9 years now.

The Daily Mail are linking Arsenal with Felipe Melo, about which Wikipedia says this:

Felipe Melo de Carvalho (born 26 August, 1983 in Volta Redonda) is a Brazilian footballer who currently plays as a defensive midfielder for Italian Serie A club Fiorentina. He is particularly well known for his aggressiveness, having collected 17 yellow cards and 3 red cards in his first Serie A season.

Excellent

I may buy Lorik Cana on Football Manager if that helps.

If this spreads fast enough around Arsenal fans it'll make it to Le Boss sooner or later. I doubt he plays Football Manager, so the outcome is inevitable.

Good work.

Yikes, that back to back top four triple whammy is pretty savage.

I am a bit concerned about the the "best-placed path" qualification play-offs we have to go through for the Champions League. It looks to me that qualification will be a fuck load harder than the actual groups stages.

Our second round tie (we automatically dodge the first round) will be randomly selected from:

The other automatic qualifiers into the second round: (44% chance of drawing a team from this group)

Athletico Madrid

Stuttgart

Lyon

Fiorentina

Or one of the five teams who qualify from the first round: (66% chance of drawing a team from this group)

Shakhtar Donetsk

Dynamo Moscow

Dinamo Bucharest

Sporting Lisbon

Sparta Prague

Celtic

Panathanaikos

Anderlecht

Twente

Sivasspor

Platini has basically made it a far more difficult compared to previous seasons as now most of the leper teams will be in the "Champion's Path".

This fucking bullshit about representing smaller countries is a joke. The Champions League is about the best teams in Europe playing against each other, not about artificially ensuring that the top teams from the shit leagues get an easier ride into the group stages where they will play ten men behind the ball and still get whipped silly by everyone. Why not leave it as it was so if a team is good enough and wins it's qualifying matches it goes through. Assuming we qualify, ten of the above teams won't make it into the Champions League proper. Of that ten how many would you back against the five qualifiers from the Champions path?

Olympiakos, Slavia Prague, Grasshopper Zurich, Levski Sofia, Stabaek, FC Copenhagen, Red Bull Salzburg, Partizan Belgrade, Maccabi Haifa, Kalmar FF, Sloven Bratislava, Wisla Krakow, Debrecen, Dinamo Zagreb, APOEL Nicosia, Maribor, Inter Turku, Ventspils, Zrinjski, Ekranas, Sheriff Tiraspol, Bohemians, Makedonija, FH Hafnarfjorour, WIT Georgia, BATE Borisov, Levadia, Baku, Tirana, Pyunik, Aktobe, Glentoran, Rhyl, EB, Dudelange, Hibernians (of Malta, not Scotland), Sant Julia, Mogren and Tre Fiori.

The quality of the group stages will undoubtedly be weakened because of this ensuring that the teams from the top three leagues are even more likely to cruise through to the final stages without upset. Whereas some of the teams who will be knocked out from the "best placed path" genuinely could have offered some competition.

Platini is such a cunt it's untrue.

To be fair though Arsenal should get through that stage without too much trouble, and if they don't they were never going to get very far in the Champions League anyway.

Yeah but it doesn't work like that. We got beaten by Stoke last season, we are a better team and should have won but we didn't. The difference is the impact of that can be watered down over the season, but in a knock out game it's all over.
