Anyone see the report on yesterday's Grauniad about Cesc? Apparently he was making more vague mutterings about going to Barcelona and how gosh-darn-lovely it'd be (while simultaneously stating, to be fair, that he's Arse captain and that's important too yadda yadda yadda).

Anyway I think it's all moot because I can't see Barca going in for him. Their system doesn't allow for a free role like he plays for us, so why bother?

He will end up there one day, I have no doubt. But not yet. He wouldn't get in the team yet as you say, those three can't play together and there is no way he would take the place of Xavi or Iniesta.

But Xavi is 29 so maybe in a couple of years.

Its fucking annoying when your best player dreams of playing for another club. :D

Keep hold of him.

We did steal him from that club so it would be a bit rich for us to get all high and mighty when he decides to go back. All I can hope is we hold on to him for as long as possible and get top dollar when he does leave.

That's about all we can hope for really, if he stays for a few more years then he would have given us a big chunk of his career.

He is Spanish and a Barca fan so it doen't exactly take a mastermind to work out that he would like to play there again/properly one day.

He's still only 22 though, so as long as he's happy at Arsenal there's no reason to assume he'll be itching to leave for at least another 3 or 4 years. He could move to Barca at 27 and still have time to be a legend there.

With our scouts being at Stuggart lat season The Sun has reliably informed that we are interested in Mario Gomez Khalid Boulahrouz Thomas Hitzlsperger.

More believable than the previous two Stuttgart links. Right position, right age, not a midget and a good head on his shoulders to boot.

Not a paper selling superstar signing, but one that I would be very, very happy with in the highly unlikely event of there actually being any truth to it.

Would be a bit of a boring signing but I guess we need a couple of them. One in central midfield and one centre back.

If he's boring and solid I am sold. I liked him when he was at Villa and to be fair the guy has also got a ridiculous left foot too and isn't shy of trying his luck from range which would make a vast improvement on Denilson's tragic efforts at "screamers".

Also Sky Sports apparently leaked our first six fixtures par accident on SSN.

Actual Fixtures? Computer error? Subject to change? Make of it what you will. LINK

I tend to sign him for Arsenal on FM, so therefore I deem this rumour "good".

That's quite a tricky start, if true. You'd hope to beat West Ham and Burnley (although we hoped to beat Burnley last year), but Liverpool and Chelsea are obviously tough, Man City might be tough by then, and Bolton, well, we all know about Bolton.

Not the best start to a season.

Not the best start to a season.

Well we had pretty much the easiest start possible last season and it didn't do us any favours.

Maybe jumping in closer to the deep end rather than dangling our toes in the kids pool could do us some good.

I'd expect to beat Wet Spam, Burnley will be on a high so it won't be easy but I'd expect a good win, Chelsea at home won't be easy but I'd accept nothing less than a draw, Bolton away should be a 3 pointer, Liverpool away will be very tough so who knows and Man City at home could be tough depending on who they sign and we sell ;)

I think this summer's transfer market is pivotal to Arsenal. We need to keep hold of players like Fabregas and Sagna and build on last year's squad. If we lose good players then we'll always be saying "next year".

I think people are putting too much stock in Newsnow dross. If you were to clumsily break down the likelihood of a transfer into bulletpoints it might looks like this from likely to very fucking unlikely:

1)Agreement of deal awaiting medical/player terms

2)Negotiations over the deal which may or may not be confirmed by either club in addition to agents

3)Talks between the clubs generally confirmed by agents (or if you are tap-up merchants like Real/Barca/Spurs some clown at the club might pipe up too)

4)Inquiries from one club to another about a player's availability sometimes confirmed by wanker agents. Regularly mixed with lies when a player needs to renegotiate a deal at his present club.

5)Interest through scouts etc

6)Rumour based on a statement from an agent/player/"source at the club"

7)Speculation based on what player a journalist/analyst thinks might suit the club and be available

8)Fantasy from Football Manager playing Youtube skill-vid monkeys who have tragically been allowed to set up blogs.

9)Internet lies to get website hits which may or may not include some sympathetic mistranslation taken out of context.

I really don't see much point in getting excited about anything below 3.

All that we have seen in the Fabregas/Clichy/Sagna "links" is very much in the number 9 category.

Ring FIFA and get them to change the rules so that if your teams is really, really terrible at defending set pieces you can apply for "Responsibility Immunity" for one clumsy thug in your squad who can conceed as many needless freekicks in his own half as he likes and the resulting set-piece goals won't count.
