Good post there but I’m going to stick up for Ade again here; yeah he went AWOL for the goal but who picked up the utd player (was it Fletcher?) who put in the cross? Should Sagna or Theo have been there? OK Ade walked away too soon but he’s an attacker and I’m sure he was looking for the quick break.

Cesc, who is simply slow by Prem standards, as the "second striker"

That was heart breaking, as I mentioned last night. I cannot see the logic in it one bit. Nasri up top with Cesc where he should be makes so much more sense. I do hope that it's not Cesc dictating where he wants to play. I can't believe that it is cos he's no mug. Adebayor built his reputation with the fans on hard graft and he's dropped that now he's a thirty goals per season striker :o . It's not good enough, frankly, and if he can't do it in a CL semi final then that says it all. I'd play Eduardo next week.

Theo

Who? Did he play?

Again, I said last night that he's never on the ball in the positions you want him to be. Where the fuck is Theo Walcott running at players at 90mph? It doesn't happen. He was missing for virtually all of last night. I had him down as our key man, he gave us nothing. Eboue for the second leg, IMO.

In defence of Theo he was given no supply. A couple of times he got running at his man, expecting a little ball over the top or one slipped through and he got nothing.

Aye, I know. We don't play to his strengths at all. But he's hardly busting a gut to get on the ball either. Last night I was hoping Wenger might stick him through the middle.

To be honest, it was easy for United. Next week I'd forget the square pegs in round holes. Back four will pick itself. Nasri, Cesc, Song and Eboue across the middle. Eduardo and one other up front, probably van Persie if fit. Play it our way.

Diaby's shit, Adebayor & Bendtner are both cunts.

Song was our best player, even though he tired towards the end. Gibbs done really well too. Obviously if it wasn't for Almunia we wouldn't even still be in with a shout.

I thought Nasri did ok. Toure, Silvestre & Sagna did ok, even though Toure went walkabout for their goal. Talk about switching off and getting sucked in towards the ball.

Theo & Cesc didn't do enough, need to do much more next week.

Eduardo didn't have long enough to do anything, even though with him on the pitch you always feel he can score a goal at anytime.

There you have it.

Diaby's shit

As left midfield, perhaps. He's not going to beat players at pace which I think you need as winger. He's more suited to slowing it down and beating players with strength and ridiculous close control.

When he matures into a central midfield player, no. I used to think he was going to be defensive midfielder, but I think he may be more suited to a more advanced role. The way he can hold off players is unique in the squad, and just outside the box that would be gold for us.

In terms of potential I think he is one of our best. Tall, fantastic feet, strong, amazing close control, good passer of the ball and a wicked shot.

Unfortunately he is guilty of giving the ball away too easily at the moment and his decision making, particularly when to release the ball, can be poor at times - but that's part and parcel of being a youngster.

I'd love to have a bit more physical presence in the side, especially in the midfield. Song has brought that to a degree since raising his game over the last few months, but it would be nice to have some further up the field too. Maybe then we might even gain possession after our own goal kicks once in a while.

Adebayor is cunt though - no two ways about it.

Yeah, I agree about Diaby. He's being played out of position and that's pretty tough given the difference between the role he'd naturally fill and the role he's being dumped in. He does give the ball away too much but his best games have been when he's in advanced positions where giving the ball away doesn't always equal a chance for the opposition. I bet he didn't give the ball away as much as Adebayor last night it's just that it's noticed a lot more.

My main concern is why he's switched Nasri and Cesc. It's absolutely bonkers from where I'm sitting. I could even understand him playing them together like Barca do with Xavi and Iniesta but to suddenly push Cesc up front only to watch him trudge across the line having no impact is wrong on so many levels.

No offence meant by this but on those occasions he's had a much better midfield pulling the strings behind him and probably the best (and one of the quickest) striker in the world pulling defenders all over the shop in front of him. Considering the players available to Arsenal it makes no sense to play Fabregas in the hole. Last night's performance and result made the result at Anfield all the more frustrating for me.

Lucky's called it spot on.

Apart from the Diaby bit.

Also I feel that the bashing Bendtner gets is a bit harsh.

Bendtner gets himself in scoring positions in the box, and, lets be fair, that is not something that can be said of many Arsenal players. How many times do you see Sagna/Clichy/Walcott/Nasri on the byline with absolutely nothing to aim for with 4 arsenal players standing outside the box waiting for the ball to be played to their feet. You can't play it like five a side all the time. I think he's a fine young striker who genuinely offers something different from the bench.

He's never in the box where he should be, though. He always ponces around like a twat trying creating a chance that he himself should get a head on.

I don't think he's ever going to be good enough. He shows something, but he wastes chances far, far too often.

Seriously? Whenever I've seen him he almost always seems to be in the right place at the right time, he gets loads of chances.

The fact he misses them all is somewhat worrying, but I can't really fault his positional play. If he sorted his finishing out and looked a bit less lazy all the time, he could be brilliant.

Gunnerblog has a piece on the new away kit today. Speculation is that it will be blue/pinstriped.

In other news, Kroenke has purchased another load os shares. His shareholding is now at about 28%. Say hello to ArsenUSAl.

Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Song Billong, Djourou, Eboue, Walcott, Denilson, Ramsey, Arshavin, Bendtner, Vela. Subs: Mannone, Bischoff, Coquelin, Emmanuel-Thomas, Merida, Randall, Frimpong.

So we are resting a few players today then. Sagna, Song, Djourou & Walcott surely the only players out of that 18 who'll play on Tuesday.

Amazing scenes

That is a bit crazy. Just goes to highlight what a cunt of a season we had from August to November, out of the league running by Xmas.

If everyone is fit and ready (and with one, maybe two new players) in place for next season, we *could*, or at least should, be major contenders.

Possibly the only good thing to come out of the C.League game earlier in the week.

Gibbs leaving Ronaldo on the deck. :)

gibbs-megs.gif

There was a better moment, where Ronaldo lost the ball and dived to the ground, then immediately got up and threw a tantrum like a petulant child that he hadn't been given a free kick. Don't suppose anyone has a gif of that knocking about? I had tears streaming down my face it was so funny.
