I heard that around Christmas time, a fat, beardy, red-suited man on a magic sleigh pulled by flying reindeer gives presents to every single child in the entire world if they've been good, and requests can be made via letter.

It's an amazing story. But it is true. My mum has told me about it all my life.

From gunnerblog:

The FA’s Director of Communications, Adrian Bevington, has spoken to the Russian media about the Andrei Arshavin deal:

“Yes, it’s true, the transfer is in doubt. There is a chance it will take us 2-3 days. The odds are 50/50. If the transfer is declared invalid, Arshavin will be returned to Zenit. We can’t rule this out. I don’t think that would be a severe ruling: both clubs had a lot of time to complete it during the window.”

What the cunt.

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

The worst thing about this, almost worse than the potential cancellation of the deal, is the prolonged agony of waiting.

Doubtless this line will soon hit the English press. Should be a whole lot of fun.

Gunnerblog's just gone down too so can't find the link. Christ.

If only he chased the ball so eagerly now.

WINNAR!!!!

I call bullshit on that FA statement.

Anyway, if we have signed Owlface, how long do you reckon until he gets injured?

I'm going for a muscle pull within the first three weeks.

Do you think he'll make the pitch or that he'll get injured during the warm up?

It's anyone's guess :( .

I really cannot believe that this is taking so long. Us, Zenit, him or the FA.. someone needs a kick up the fucking arse. To be honest, it shouldn't go through now. Fuck it, how long have we had? What will all the other clubs say? This can't be right.

When will it end? From Gunnerblog:

Sorry folks. I unwittingly led you up the garden path. The FA have just confirmed to me that these quotes were entirely made up. So we can probably afford to calm down a bit.

The official line from the Premier League, meanwhile, is that there are still several transfers pending approval - of which Arshavin is one.

Sorry for the scare.

SSN say it's now done.

I hope he plays this weekend.

That's the 27th time we have "officially" signed him. We have been busy. It's like loads of new signings.

Apparently there is a statement on the website but I can't see it.

EDIT: I can now!

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Russian international midfielder, Andrey Arshavin has joined the Gunners from Zenit St. Petersburg on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

Arshavin, 27, who played a key part in Zenit’s UEFA Cup winning campaign last season, was also a member of the Russian EURO 2008 squad in which he scored two goals from his three appearances, earning him a place in the ‘Team of the Tournament’.

Arshavin won the Russian Premier League with Zenit in 2007, making a total of 232 appearances for his previous club, scoring 51 goals. During his time with Zenit, he was also part of the winning team that picked up the Russian Super Cup in 2008, the Russian Premier League Cup in 2003 and featured in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Manchester United in Monaco last August.

With 41 international caps for Russia, Arshavin has scored a total of 15 goals for his country. His versatility has allowed him to play in a variety of positions; the 2006 Russian Footballer of the Year started his career as a right midfielder, but has since played as an attacking midfielder and more recently has filled the ‘second striker’s’ role.

I'm going to lie down. It's all been too much.

Aaaahhhhhh, relief!!!

Thank god for that. Now we can look forward to winning the league and champions league and the world cup. All our problems are over!

Seriously though, while he isn't the answer to all our problems I still think this will help a good deal with our battle for fourth place.

I know we have all said that we need a centre back and tough central midfielder but recently we have lacked a creative spark and struggled to create chances so this is a good thing and i'm not at all changing my tune just because we have actually signed someone.
