True that. I like the rest of the list, though. Arteta in particular is one of the most under-rated players in the league. I'm really surprised that he hasn't been linked with a big move before now. He could easily fill the Cesc shaped hole in your midfield between now and his return, and is versatile and talented enough to play a different role after Fabregas is back.

I'm in complete agreement there. The only reason I can think of to explain how Everton having managed to hang on to him for so long is because he might feel a modicum of loyalty to the club.

That said, I would still like a head down, balls out, hands groping DM.

There you go!

Bye bye Kolo. Lovely fella, really likeable. But not what we need at all, I've been saying that for ages. What would you do with him? What £10m size gap could he currently fill?

I've heard it's over a bust up with Gallas ;) .

Toure is a better player when he isn't playing alongside Gallas. I'd rather Gallas go and Toure stays.

Kolo has been a shell of a player since the African Cup of Nations. He has been given enough time to regain form but has failed to do so, so it is time he moves on.

Opinions, no right or wrong.

I look at Kolo and as a CB he's dead in the water. When Arsene converted him I was horrified but he had a year or two of being really brilliant. He had that animation, that twitch when we conceded, the turn of pace and I loved it. For me, since then, he's been shown up. Much as I love him I can't find a spot for him in a great new Arsenal XI. I can't see where logic could override sentimentality and he'd be a starter.

Gallas I hate. I was won over when he made Captain but that was wrong. Overrated by a mile, I still don't really see his strengths. Since he lost the armband I think he's improved though. His reaction to the Pompey winner was what I want to see. Ideally he'd be off but of the two I'd rather have Galas than Kolo ;) .

For choice I'd have two new CBs in, battle it out with Djourou who I quite like without thinking he's the real answer.

I'd also rather see we kept them all and got in a coach. A proper coach.

I did read that with malaria it's with you on and off for life. As a professional athlete you're fucked, you'll never be properly fit ;) .

I'll stand corrected on that though.

Its true you've got it for life, Zokora has it and he had to miss some games last season because of a flare up, but it doesn't completely fuck you. Zok's probably our fittest player and he never stops running or gets tired, it just means he gets taken out for a while when it flares up which doesn't seem to happen that often (only happened once since he's been at ours IIRC).

I didn't know that, cheers ;)

Its character vs ability on this one - Gallas, despite being an apocalyptic bellend, has earned the right to be on the team-sheet the most this season. I bloody love Kolo but it seems that he is indeed a shell of the player that we fell for 2005 - 2007 and at that point, the cause is academic. We could buy some quality with the transfer fee, really test Woy's wesolve with some cold, hard cash. We need to re-establish the CH as a key Arsenal position (not the defence as a whole, I bloody love our wing-backs).

Otherwise, it seems weird (but exciting) discussing Arteta as a possible target, I'd much rather have him than Arshavin. However, through no fault of his own, he is the closest alternative substitute which brings home how unique Cesc is. I often wonder if he's been taken for granted this season.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood admits the club cannot afford to spend big during the January transfer window.

The Gunners were expected to enjoy a New Year splurge as they look to add some experienced faces to their impressive crop of youngsters.

However, despite being linked with numerous top names, it would appear that new recruits will be thin on the ground.

Arsene Wenger has already seen his side slip out of title contention in the Premier League this term, but will not be handed a financial war chest in an effort to resolve the club's problems.

Sensible

"I don't think there is a lot of money anywhere," Hill-Wood said in the Daily Star.

"One has got to look ahead - in the future there is probably not going to be much more money coming in.

"We have got money, but I am not sure we are going to spend it. We've got to continue to run the business in a sensible way.

"It may sound boring, but we are not going to rush out and spend fortunes on people who won't help us achieve anything better than where we are at the moment.

"Arsene has a lot of young, talented players at the club and I think he will probably give a chance to one or two of them."

If this is a smokescreen before we go out and buy some footballers, then great. If not, then out season is over as of now.

What an utter piece of shit-stirring bullshit of a story. It's exactly the same thing we've heard all year and for it to suggest that we have no money in the headline and then quote PHW as saying "We have got money, but I am not sure we are going to spend it" a few lines later is just farcical.

I fucking hate tabloid football writers, and I especially hate fucking Sky Sports.
