Do you chaps not see Vela slotting straight in then? He looks competent from the Youtube videos I've seen (not always the more reliable source I know)/

I'm not sure about going straight into the starting 11 yet, but what with Hleb going, Rosicky and RVP both being made of glass, Eboue being shit, and Eduardo still out for a good while yet, he might be called upon pretty soon.

I’m pretty excited about the coming season, can’t wait for the Emirates Cup. I actually think that a combination of a more mature Walcott, Vela and Nasri on the wings offer far more threat than Hleb & Eboue, who seemed to be the predominant pairing last year. If Arsene would just splash the cash and buy a decent central midfielder and van Persie would stay fit.......

Does anyone else think the ADEBAYOR stuff may linger on, didn’t he go on strike at his previous club?

I don't want to ever see him in an Arsenal shirt again. The bloke doesn't deserve what he's got and I hope this gossip about Barca not being impressed is true and other Clubs take note too. I'd let the fucker rot. This is nothing to do with loyalty or wanting to better himself, it's purely financial greed. He's an insult to the fans and the shirt.

Agree 100% with that.

Just read he turned down a £60k per week deal with us. What planet is this man on? <_<

I'm not sure, but I am sure it's not the same planet as Wenger is on.

It looks like we might be in the market for a CM, going by Wenger's quote the other day, but who?

I hope it's not a 17 year old.

How about Veloso? Haven't seen too much of him but he seems to be highly rated. Price tag could be a problem.

Surely we need a CB too.

He's a very classy player but I'd have doubts that he could add the physicality your midfield is currently lacking. He's very clever in his use of the ball and his ability to get between the man and the ball (much like xabi for us), but he'd represent a bit of a risk at the £14m+ he'd be likely to cost. Mascherano would be perfect for your midfield, fortunately for us there's only one Tommy Mascherano.

Well if Arsenal value him at 35 mil then why are they not paying him the salary of others in the same bracket ? Simple really.

I think it's more a case of if he values himself at 120k per week then he must be in the 35mil bracket. As it looks like no one is prepared to pay 35mil then maybe he's not in the 120k bracket but in the bracket of players that think they are worth 120k but are in fact worth only half that. This is also known as the cunt bracket.

*applause*

Exactly. He's bumped himself into silly money territory and we told him he could go at a silly asking price. And of course, we don't think for one minute he's worth £35m and I very much doubt if we ever seriously asked for that.

You could then ask whether Ronaldo, at circa three times the asking price of any player on the planet (aside from when Chelsea decide to bid for someone) isn't getting paid three times as much as anyone else, which would probably be around £450k per week. It just as stupid an example :( .

How about this for a team:

Almunia

Sagna Gallas Senderos Clichy

Walcott Toure Fabregas Nasri

Rosicky

Van Persie

Obviously, it's far from ideal. For a start Senderos is in the team and Nasri is untested. I think Rosicky would be far better in the "second striker" role than Hleb ever was because Rosicky will actually shoot. He always looks better in the middle.

I think Toure has a habit of getting turned, which is bad for the last defender, and can sometimes be beaten too easily. He's had a couple of poor games against Drogba, but no-one seems to focus on this. He's mobile and tenacious enough to fill the gap left by Flamini. He's also really good on the ball.

All foreign players should henceforth be given english first names. I vote for Alf Vela.

I'm just saying Toure and Campbell worked better then Toure and Gallas. It's obvious you guys lack a Vidic, Carragher or Terry.

Fair enough. I don't like Gallas and I'd take any of those three.

Mind you, Toure's a square peg in a round hole. Love him as I do.

Have you not seen Senderos against Drogba? Toure needs someone like Campbell alongside him at the back, him and Gallas doesn't work because they are both similar types of defenders.

Yes, yes I have. I didn't say Senderos was a good CB. Rather I was trying to make the point that Toure is not always the CB he is cracked up to be, yet this generally gets overlooked.

Suddenly Clichy's bigging up Traore. Are we overlooking an obvious solution to the left wing? I've never been that impressed with his overall game but he's young and I don't think he's a defender. He's lightning quick, skillful and has some bollocks. I'd quite like to see him get a chance. Him and Clichy could be awesome on the left.

He played on the left wing in one of our recent friendlies didn't he? He's definitely an option and might be more at ease going forward than we've seen him when playing LB at the highest level.

Yeah, Armand 'EIE' Traore did start against Barnet on the wing. He looked alright up against Barry McDogshit (or whoever their right back was) but I'm not sure if he's ready to get thrown into the deep end yet. He's already a legend though for bringing a knuckleduster to the Lane. What a guy!

If my current game of Football Manager is anything to go by within the next two years Man utd are going to snap him up from us for 38 million euro. Also, he will beyond awesome.

Justin Hoyte is doing way better for my FML team than Ferreira did so far...
