Henry at being voted no.1 Arsenal player ever.

Legend!

I wonder whether that's a knee jerk reaction to him being the latest "big" name to leave. Don't get me wrong, he is a legend, but was he really as good as Bergkamp or even Adams? How do you even compare those players?

You can't really compare them, all three are absolute legends. It's sad and scary to think that we might never see an Adams, Bergkamp or Henry again.

The only only thing with Henry is that we had, at one pint or another, arguably the best footballer on the planet playing for us.

It's quite amazing to think that we had Henry and Bergkamp in the same team.

Today's Arseblog is even more on the ball than usual. Everybody should read it.

Arsene Wenger has been talking about spending and money and all that. He says:

Of course I am in a position where I can spend the money. But every time we have done such a great job with the young players that you are concerned 'do we kill a young player or not by bringing another player in?' It is a very sensitive subject which is not specially linked with money.

I think, perhaps, it's only a sensitive subject for Arsene, it's certainly not for fans. If there's money to spend then he should spend it. His job, at the end of the day, is to bring success to Arsenal, not to develop youngsters like some kind of football creche. If a player is good enough he'll make the grade, irrespective of who's in his way.

Anyway, there's something to be said for giving young players time on the pitch with experienced players. Of course they learn lots from just playing but if they have experienced pros telling them how they can improve and helping them along then their development is far from stunted. I like the idea of young players but at the same time the boss can't complain we lacked a bit of experience last season then make the squad even younger and more raw.

Absolutely spot on and could not have said it better myself. The youth thing is great and it is really satisfying to see the players Cesc and Clichy and the rest have become but what would be even more satisfying would be to win something with them. I feel Wenger has lost sight of this and almost values develping young players above winning things. That said, if he buys an experienced centre back and central midfielder, then I will eat my words and feel we will have a decent chance of challenging. We are not that far away at the moment. But as the squad is at the moment, we will win nothing.

I'm not totally convinced. I think there is something to be proud of in creating great players, making them play gorgeous football and getting so close to the top without buying the title like the only 2 clubs that performed better had to do. The moral high-ground doesn't look very nice in the trophy cabinet, I'll admit. But I think I kinda prefer it. If Arsenal blew £200m this summer and subsequently won the Premiership and made themselves more hated than Chelsea, would it feel that much better than being in first for so much of last season on a (comparative) shoe-string?

If he genuinely thinks we can struggle by with the numbers we've got he's kidding himself. Chelsea and Man Utd can't believe their luck when they hear all this rhetoric about sticking with youth without even attempting to supplement it with some experience. It's all very well having an inexhaustible supply of potential and skill, but who in our squad has any experience of actually winning anything?

We're short on numbers even with a fully fit squad, that's ignoring the fact that Rosicky and Van Persie are perpetually crocked, Eduardo won't be back for ages and we expect 21 year olds to play over 50 competitive games a season. Our starting XI can compete at the highest level, but going into a season knowing full well we'll run out of steam again depresses the crap out of me.

Watching the Barnet game at the moment and Ramsey looks very handy. Always looking for the ball and the boy can pick a pass. Colour me impressed.

We are 1 - 0 down though :)

Where abouts were you? I was standing on the opposite side to the tunnel, half way between the corner flag near the turn stiles & the half way line.

Ramsey looked great, I agree. Always looking to go forward & attack!

Ramsey was fantastic on Saturday. I was pretty impressed. Fair enough it was only Barnet but Denilson, Bendtner and Walcott all stank out the place compared to the kid.

Almunia did himself no favours with the free kick. Before the Barnet player hit the ball, I said to my Dad where I thought he was going to put the ball and I was spot on. If I am standing at the other end of the ground and can suss out what's going to happen, why can't Almunia?

That's a fair point but also, whoever we had charging the ball down from the wall, I think it was Walcott, came from the wrong side and it was a dinger of a free kick too. All the same, let's hope that wakes Al up a bit for the coming season and he won't let it happen again.

It's just naive moments like this that reminded me of silly goals we conceded last season. I appreciate it's our first pre-season game and everyone is bound to be a bit rusty, but it's just basic errors that are still there and in my opinion shouldn't be happening.

Sadly I just don't think Almunia is good enough to be our number one. He makes a fine back-up keeper but he's not even in the same league as someone we just let go - Lehmann!

A good keeper can earn you a good 10 points a season (or 25+ if you are Brad Friedel :)), I think he's going to end up costing us.

OK guys, starting XI assuming everyone is fit. That is, the team you'd put out as first choice if possible from the current squad. Mine..

Almunia

Sagna Gallas Toure Clichy

Walcott Cesc Diaby Nasri

Eduardo van Persie

Speaks for itself almost at the moment, no? Interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Do Arsenal just not have any money, then? I can't believe Wenger hasn't at least signed a centre back and a better goal keeper yet...

There's still time, we'll get one or two more in. There's money but, rightly or wrongly, he's pursuing the youth policy and not stunting the players he's brought through.

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR fears he has blown his move to Barcelona.

The Spanish giants are unimpressed by the Arsenal striker’s attitude and will not pay the £37.5million asking price.

And Adebayor told a team-mate: “I’m not sure if I’m going to leave now.”

AC Milan dropped out of the chase for the Togo star and Barca coach Pep Guardiola is not happy with his massive wage demands and the attitude of Adebayor’s advisors.

The striker is after £120,000 a week — four times his current wages.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was furious that Adebayor, 24, turned down a new £60,000-a-week Arsenal deal — twice his current pay.

can anyone else see the similarity, or is it just me?

oh, and Toure should live.

Defender Kolo Toure is recovering from malaria at the Gunners’ Austrian training camp and expects to be fit for the new season.

He could even feature in some of the pre-season friendlies.
