Cesc for Captain?

After this tournament? No doubt. Brilliant.

Looks a bit David Hillier in the pace department at times ( :D ) but he runs game for fun. IMO the outstanding brain in football right now. He knows what's what and where things need to happen instinctively. Born to play the game.

Christiano Ronaldo routinely fails to shine in the big games, Fabregas just excels in them. As good as David Villa has been in Euro 2008 I hope he misses Sundays match so that Fabregas gets a deserved start.

Adebayor is staying:

Emmanuel Adebayor has ended speculation about his immediate future by announcing he is staying at Arsenal.

The Togo striker, who scored 30 goals in 48 games for Arsenal last season, has been a target for both Italian side AC Milan and Catalan club Barcelona.

But the 24-year-old said in Vienna on Friday: "I am an Arsenal player and have three years left on my contract.

"The most important thing for me is to keep on enjoying my football. I'm staying at Arsenal."

On Thursday Adebayor's agent Vincenzo Morabito said there was an "80% chance" that the player would move to AC Milan.

AC Milan, who signed Matthieu Flamini from the Gunners in May, had previously announced that Adebayor was their only target this summer.

Good news. Don't need any more players leaving especially as I feel we still need a centre midfielder and a centre back.

He obviously fancies a move but doesn't want to seem a cunt about it in case it all goes pear shaped and he's stuck with us. I think he'll probably learn that you can't have your cake and eat it too. The problem we will have with our transfer policy is that we've let a staggering amount of talent stroll out of the marble halls in the last few years, so every summer it's open season because well, we'll probably let you have them if you bang on about it long enough.

I get the impression it's more that he does genuinely want to stay, but having not spoken to Wenger he doesn't want to say too much... in case Wenger is hearing the talk of £30m price tags and thinking of selling him. I'm reasonably confident he'll stay as long as Wenger wants him enough.

If these quotes are for real then Adebayor is a cunt, simple as that.

in an exclusive interview, Adebayor declared: “Either Arsenal give me what I want and I stay or they don’t and I leave.”

Adebayor, 24, wants a mega new £120,000-a-week deal — a staggering 400 per cent increase on his current wages.

It would rival the pay of former skipper Henry, now at Barcelona.

Adebayor said: “People ask if I’m asking for the same salary as Henry. That is not necessarily the question.

“But I am being considered a worthy replacement for Henry while not deserving his salary. The question lies on this level.”

Adebayor made it clear he would snub Milan in favour of Barca if the Gunners do not meet his demands.

The ex-Monaco striker, who scored 30 goals for Arsenal last season, added: “Milan are a big club but the fact they are not playing in the Champions League next season is less of a challenge.

“Barcelona have made a good financial offer and there is also the chance to play alongside great players. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I’ll leave.”

Adebayor felt he had already reached a verbal agreement with Arsenal, but has grown frustrated that the contract is not being delivered.

And Barca are believed to have offered him the £120,000-a-week he craves to sign for them.

He added: “You have to take advantage of the moment. If my good form has increased my value, my employers have to take account of that.

“Sure, the Arsenal fans want to see me scoring lovely goals next season. I have the same wish, too.

“But the career of a footballer is soon over. My good goals aren’t the only things I am going to enjoy at the end of it.

“I have to prepare for my retirement as a player, too. Even if you’re not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement.

“The time for preparing for that moment is now.”

As for Adebayor wanting what Henry was on.

In fact, he wants parity with what Thierry Henry was earning at Arsenal.

Let’s talk parity.

Thierry Henry. World Cup winner. European Championship winner. Three FA Cup winners’ medals. Two Premier League winners’ medals. Footballer of the Year three times. Two European golden boots. Premier League top scorer four times.

Emmanuel Adebayor. Goal of the season 2007-08. Er, and that’s about it.

Some parity, eh?

I hope it's just the papers talking bollocks, but..................

if a player who was barely playing for Monaco a couple of years ago

if I remember correctly it was Arsenal or West Ham who wanted to sign him from Monaco, no direspect to WH

Wenger gave a player a chance who needed six chances to score and who didn't know the offside rule. I still wonder sometimes if he undersatnds it now. Yes he has improved loads but can sometimes still be so frustrating.

I agree he should be on more than 30k a week but 120k?

"There's a chance to play alongside great players at Barca"? A bit disrespectful to Arsenal players don't you think? What does he think Cesc, World cup winner Gallas, RVP, World cup winner Gilberto, Toure, Eduardo, Clichy, Sagna etc.. are?

He wants the same as Henry? When he does what he did last year for 5 years in a row, like Henry did, then he should open his mouth until then he should shut the fuck up and concentrate on football.

I know we always blame the agents but sometimes I wonder why a player just doesn't tell their agent to leave things alone as they don't want to leave where they are (see Clichy). Yeah ask for a pay rise by all means but to come out with all this shit and then hide behind your agent is not really on.

.................. if it's true then he's a cunt.

I'm usually pretty sceptical when you get things like "An Arsenal source is thought to have said...", but when you've got reams of quotes from the player himself then it's pretty hard to defend. Personally I think we should sell him, but that prospect isn't as attractive when we'll probably get a knock down price as he's made it clear he wants to bugger off to partner up with his old bum chum, Henry.

It just goes to show how players see Arsenal, a stepping stone. We risked a lot of cash on nobodies like Hleb and Adebayor, stuck with them for fucking ages and through plenty of awful performances and now the second they get some interest from a bigger club they court their wares about like some cheap tart. Listening to those Cesc and Clichy interviews recently they always acknowledge Arsenal's influence on them which is obviously lovely. These Billy Big Bananas forget all about that, which is probably the reason most players we sell don't exactly go on to great things after. Fuck them.

That bullshit about retirement really gets me. He's making what? 30k a week right now and can expect a large pay increase from Arsenal. He's making 1 million a year. Invest that wisely (which to me means putting it the bank) and you can easily live off the interest.

Load of bullshit really.

It does seem like he wants to leave in which case bye bye as we don't need players with that attitude. He's believing in his own hype which really pisses me off. I can't see him scoring that many goals again next season regardless of where he is playing and if we can get anywhere near 30mil aswell it wouldn't be so bad. It sounds funny but i'd get crouch for 10million he wouldn't be that bad a signing really or Kenwyne jones. I would just like to get someone already in the league who won't need to settle.

I've simply never been more fed up with football. I really cannot describe how much I despise what it has turned into sometimes.

Couldn't agree more.

Crouch?

Please no.

Wouldn't mind Kenwyne Jones though.

I think people are stupid when they question a players want to make as much money as possible. I mean wouldn't anybody? It's not just about making enough to live on, its an opportunity for players to provide for their kids, grandkids and entire family for generations. I think most people would be trying to get as much money as possible if they were in the position these guys are.

Well I could leave my job tomorrow and probably get paid about 50% more if I wanted to, but I won't because I enjoy what I am doing. We'd all like to get paid fairly but the money he's on about is crazy, and as pointed out the only reason that people like Henry were on £100,000+ contracts was because he'd earned it. He's had one good, actually half a good season and thinks he's the cat's pyjamas. We'll maybe if he thinks he's really that good he probably should go to Barcelona to sit on the bench every week to prove it. Yes, I'm bitter.

Reports suggest we will sign Amaury Bischoff in a few days (a central midfielder) and Nasri will sign on july 1st.

Crouch wouldn't be so bad he knows what the league is about and would give us a targetman, it would also give Walcott and Vela more of a chance upfront.

Torres?

EDIT: Sorry, should put more than that - Torres is our line leader. Crouch doesn't play in the same way and he won't fit in the same system we play now with Torres.

Crouch is still a great player, certainly better than some you already have, like Bendtner.

Crouch is pretty good, certainly not great. Bendtner has had one junior season in the top flight.

NB: Starts 17 Goals 9 Assists 7

PC: Starts 21 Goals 10 Assists 7

I'll stand corrected if those stats are wrong.

I wouldn't let the fact that our defenders, who are notoriously terrible in the air, can't handle him get in the way of identifying how unattractive the football he encourages is. Anyway, if he's so good why don't you play him?

I don't know, the perfect hat-trick he scored against you lot was pretty attractive and only one of the goals was from an aerial attack. I think you'd be surprised at how good he is, given the chance to watch him consistently. You are right in saying that his presence does often lead to long ball tactics but he actually plays much better when the ball is played into his feet, and I'm confident that Wenger wouldn't allow the team to change its general approach. I'd rather see him go elsewhere personally.
