I'd love it if we signed Nasri, it would calm things down alot from a fans point of view and he is highly rated. I agree with dogsout that he would prob take time to settle but that's alright as we could ease him into things like we do. We need to sign a defensive midfielder soon though

Urgh, what a horrible evening ;)

Arseblog puts it perfectly. Again.

And that's about it. I could go trawling through the websites and newspapers but as you can probably understand I'm doing my utmost to avoid reading anything about last night's Russian cuntorama.
:o

Also mentions some good news regarding Vela:

Carlos Vela has received clearance to begin his belated Arsenal career and will be with the squad for pre-season training.

The Mexican international signed a five-year contract with the Gunners in November 2005, but was barred from joining up with his new team-mates by Fifa legislation.

As a result, he has been forced to spend the last few years on loan in Spain with Celta Vigo, Salamanca and Osasuna.

However, with Arsene Wenger keen to bring the teenager into the first-team fold at Emirates Stadium, he has finally been grated a work permit to play in England.

So if the Nasri deal happens what else are we looking at? I would accept a defensive midfielder, (Yaya Toure perhaps?) and a tall strong centre back, someone like Vidic. I would be happy to go into the new season with that squad, assuming nobody leaves. I would like a new goalie too but that isn't going to happen it seems.

If the Nasri deal happens, we definitely need a defensive midfielder and a strong centra back without a doubt. I would say a wide man is also a must, Ben Arfa maybe?

A keeper and a striker too is probably asking for too much.

Maybe Wenger sees Vela as the wide man addition and Walcott being the striker addition.

I just worry about RVP and Rosicky getting stuck in the medical room again. They can both be massive players for us but they must be on the pitch for that. Also with Eduardo probably missing half of next season or so, it does leave us a bit light up front.

I think Nasri can play anywhere, left, right or support striker so if we get him and have Hleb (if he stays), Mr Glass (Rosicky), Theo, Vela and Eboue all able to play in the wide positions I would take that.

I definitely think we need a strong centre back and a defensive midfielder to go into the team. Up front we have Adebayor, Mr Glass 2 (RvP), Bendtner, plus Eduardo to come back and a couple of the above maybe who can play there, at least as support strikers. Again you can always do with more but that will probably do I think.

We need a striker.

currently we have Adebayor, Bendtner, Theo, RvP, Eduardo and Vela.

Adebayor - despite my slating him he got 30 goals. Although he might not get that many again, we can be optimistic of 20+ I would think. I still think he's pants. One season wonder. :(

Theo - I think he'll spend another season on the wing

RvP - as Lucky LL says a massive player for us, but he has to be on the pitch. Do we really think he can manage more than 20 games based on the last 2 seasons?

Bendtner - I think he might make it, but it's clear the other players hate him. Do you lot think he'll get sold on? Not sure we can rely on him as a partner for Adebayor.

Eduardo - Not back till Xmas at least.

Vela - It's all well and good jizzing over youtube clips, but he hasnt even played for us yet. He'll undoubtely need time to settle, so I don't think he will really deliver until after Xmas (if he can).

So we need a new striker. Aside from the emergence of Adebayor, I don't think our strike force has improved since last season. Indeed, RvP looks frailer.

As for nasri, again, he looks talented, but wouldnt you prefer an established midfielder? The difference this year was 4 points. We dont really have time for him to learn on the job.

I don't feel we need another striker at all, we have alot of front men that have all been named above and Nasri would be the final player we would need in attack. Our problem this season wasn't scoring, it was defending and that is why a centre half is the priority aswell as a defensive midfielder. We need to hold onto leads look at our games against chelsea, man utd and liverpool in the semi final.

So Helb's agent has confirmed he will leave the club over the summer here

While I did have a soft spot for the lad 11 goals in all competitions in three seasons is fucking pathetic. He won't be hard to replace. I guess the Nasri deal might go through now.

I'd quite like to see Ben Arfa join as well but we do need a DM and a CB really.

Vela also got his work permit. Kind of old news but I'm really looking forward to seeing that kid play for us!

I don't see us getting ben arfa as we'll hopefully get Nasri and that will pave the way for Hlebs exit. I really can't wait to see vela either he looks like such an exciting player i just hope he gets played up top.

I really hope the Nasri deal happens, and we add a centre back and defensive midfielder to that too.

That might be it as Wenger probably sees Vela as playing a Walcott type role for the next couple of years, by that I mean playing out wide and eventually moving up top. Theo could be ready to make that step next season.

If we only lose Flamini and Hleb but add Vela, Nasri and two more (CB and DM) we'll have added in numbers from last season but will it be enough to close the gap on UTD?

It was just 4 points I suppose, but I would like to have added more players.

We'll see.

Read some words from Diarra, basically saying that to lose one French international midfielder is unfortunate but to lose two is careless. Cant help but agree, looking back I'm amazed we sold Diarra given the Flamini situation. We've pissed away twenty million worth of young, ready to go talent for fuck all. Also, see Edu. I think we're shit at handling outgoing players/transfers.

I worry that we're seen as a stepping stone. Nasri, for example. Will he come over, make a name for himself and demand a move? We need to put ourselves up there with the big boys cos right now we look like a selling Club, IMO. I'm starting to think outside investment might be the way to go.

It does look like the Nasri deal is happening, F365 has some quotes from his agent and also Ribery:

Also..

Wenger told television programme Teléfoot: “It is likely that the transfer (of Nasri) will go through, if it happens, it will be before the start of the Euro (June 7-29)”

I'll be amazed if this happens.

I don't see arsenal as a stepping stone. Look at Fabregas he is still here, only a few have left. This Nasri deal should be settled in the next week and it seems like we'll get alot of money for Hleb which is a positive. Our squad should be bigger for next season and it isn't much of a gap to close on Man utd. If we'd beaten them at ot we woulda won the league. We're on the brink of winning something.

Chantome is similar to Flamini from what I hear, so I'm not sure Wenger will be signing another defensive midfielder unless Gilberto leaves.

You don't think Gilberto is a bit past it?

In other Vela news, I read he was mostly playing left wing in Spain. I wonder whether Wnger intends to use him on the left instead of Rosicknote, in the way he has used Walcott on the right?

I don't think he can expect to displace Adebyaor. I expect he will be a Carling Cup regular for the first season. I'm worried he's getting a bit overhyped.

The sale of Diarra was, I think, a worse move than losing Flamini. I thought he was a lot better than Flamini. Flamini has earnt himself a big deal on the back of one good season and if AC Milan want to pay that much money for him that's their look out. Everyone would have thought it was a decent moved to sell him to Birmingham a year ago. AC are a bigger club and he will be playing with Kaka and Ronaldinho (albeit in the UEFA Cup) which isnt a move a lot of people would turn down.

As for Nasri, I'd rather see an experienced CM come into the team, rather than another kid.

That would be a criminal waste of talent.
