Who's still at the Club from Anelka's first spell? I think he looks like a changed man. The fans would've been won over as soon as he notched. He's probably a better forward than anything we had fit last night. Experienced too. I'd sooner have had him leading the line last night than Adebayor who's completely gone of the boil and is always offside. Granted though, he did finish off Walcott's goal :) . Jesus, that was some run. I can't think of another player who could've done that. I think it was different even to anything Ronaldo does. So fucking quick.

Does anyone have a link for that Walcott goal? I want to rewatch it... I feel so sorry for him because it could have been remembered as a career defining moment if we'd gone through, it was that amazing. It was reminiscent of Owen against Argentina; but better than that I think... he's faster than Owen and had further to go/more players to pass. I guess Henry used to do similar things, he's probably the closest comparison.

I agree about Anelka, he could've been a great buy. Adebayor's done fantastically well this season but he's been relied on too much, you could never expect him to stay in form all season, especially when he's been played up front on his own so much. It's unfortunate though that Eduardo's injury came at a time when he was just proving his quality and taking some of the pressure off Adebayor.

The other thing to remember about Adebayor is he's still young and can still improve. If he can keep doing what he's doing, but stop being caught offside so much and gain a little composure (he's had a few times now where he's missed fantastic chances or assist opportunities), he could be scoring 30+ league goals. He'd be a horrible player to defend against because he's got almost everything - he can score in the air, he's got skill on the ball, he's strong and much faster than he looks.

I'd still like to see Wenger buy an experienced striker in summer though, because we can't even consider Eduardo for next season (although assuming the recovery goes well he'll give us an extra option towards the end). As much as Walcott seems ready to step up, we can't really rely on that. And we also can't rely on Van Persie being fit, so that would leave us with only Adebayor and Bendtner.

We definitely need to buy a winger as well - Babel would've been ideal but I'm not sure who now. I'm still hopeful Rosicky can have an injury free season and be a brilliant player for us but we can't rely on it. Even if Rosicky and Hleb are fit for a full season it's crucial to have someone to compete for their positions, and to bring in to give them an occasional rest.

I don't know if I'd 'go back' for Anelka, he is a class act but I don't think he'd be too popular. We should have brought on Walcott for Flamini, and moved diaby into centre mid I thought.

I hear what you're saying, but Eboue is hardly popular and he's in our starting 11. If Anelka came back and was banging the goals in we'd all have quickly forgotten that he's a bit of a tosser.

We could also have played Eboue at right back, left Toure at CB and played Walcott at RM from the start.

All irrelevant really. The bottom line is that our squad is too thin. We weren't able to cope without the injured players, we weren't able to rest any players and the players that came in were just not good enough.

We need to add numbers and they need to be quality players too.

I mean Senderes's marking from the corner was a joke, schoolboy error, and for the 2nd goal allowing a player, with the quality that Torres has, to turn in the box and have a free shot is just asking for trouble. Toure's decision to be all over Babel for the penalty is just thick. Gallas was in front of Babel and he had nowhere to go. Adebayor's 1st touch at times is just shit and someone needs to explain the offside rule to him. I'm just babling on now, still fucking pissed off!

To be fair to Senderos, he's recently had a good run of form. If anything our defence has looked better with him in the team, and it's been more shaky in the games when Toure played with Gallas after returning from the African Nations Cup. Particularly last night with Crouch playing I would've picked Senderos because we need someone who'd impose himself in the air.

The real question is, has Wenger taken us as far as he can?

It's a weird coincidence that Benitez is in his fourth season at Liverpool and Wenger's Arsenal are now in their trophyless fourth season.

The accusation that a manager has taken his team as far as he can has been aimed at Alex Ferguson so many times over the years but eventually he gets his rebuilding on course and his team win the league. Surely Arsenal have progressed enough between last and this season to show they are moving in the right direction under current leadership? Every manager makes questionable decisions and they can't always get it right but it's the ones that rectify their mistakes that ultimately deliver when it matters most. Wenger took your team from a side scraping for fourth place to a team that spent most of the season as genuine title contenders. From my point of view Benitez has never realistically had Liverpool as genuine title contenders during his reign.

It didn't make a blind bit of difference. The Kop went as flat as a fart as soon as we equalised, if you think this mythical '12 man' was more important than the fact that our players were falling out of their own arses in the last 20 then I think you're kidding yourself. Obviously that's our fault, but don't fall for the hype.

The hype?! The Kop...is just hype? :)

The noise is a myth. I could hear the players calling each other at times. Apart from the impressive start and end to games it's like any stand/stadium.

Been to Anfield on a European night then, have you?

This is very true, and next season will prove whether this was a genuine push forward or a team performing above thier level. I certainly hope its the former and Arsenal build, cos they have a fantastic group of players and with the right additions are certainly capable of maintaining that challenge. As for Liverpool, I think Benitez has finally worked out what it takes to challenge in the PL (too late obviously).

No one's denying there's a good atmosphere at Anfield on Euro nights, but this 12th man shit had no bearing on the result.

Apart from a bit of a scouse knees up at the end it seemed the same as most stadiums would be for a 2nd leg 1/4 final.

No but my TV has sound to go with the pictures. I have been to Anfield for a midweek game (not Europe). Anyway i'm not getting into this. It's all irrelevant bullshit.

HOW many players did Theo leave on their arse!?

Four.

I'm reading 'El Diego' at the moment so I was willing him to cut inside and finish it off himself. Really reminded me of Maradona's goal or Messi's from last year, just utterly spellbinding.

Bad luck Arsenal. As for the Kop, I do find this whole Magical European Night At Anfield stuff a little excessive and at times last night, when things weren't going their way, they were quiet as mice, but flicking between this and the Chelsea game last night the difference in crowd noise was, for the most part, enormous. Though I think that says more about Chelsea than Liverpool.

Aurelio should have just wiped him out. It was ridiculous to let him go like that. Still, amazing stuff. Shame he didn't score it himself.

I think he was already on a yellow (can't remember if he'd been booked in that game, or if he was carrying it over from another game *edit* think he was booked against Inter). I guess he thought that there were other players back and he didn't want to miss the semi.

Sami feared a red, and missing games too, I suppose.

And it was a great goal, he ran a long way bloody fast, but the Diego comparisons are a bit over-the-top. Even the Owen comparisons go a bit far for me, but that might be more to do with partisan considerations, that Owen scored himself, and that it was a World Cup match against Argentina.

So, everything that I whould've wanted to say about Tuesday has been said already so I won't bother go over the old ground.

What I do want to say is - We all know the kind of over the top doom mongering our team was subjected to at the start of the season all because Theiry had left us.

It seemed everyone thought we'd slip out of the top four and wouldn't challange for any trophys at all. The pundents really seemed to not understand the contribution Thiery made to the team. With his diparture it was never going to be a case that we wouldn't tick anymore, that we would stop playing our fluid football.

No, what we would lose with Henry was what we needed in our past 12 games. Someone who can score out of nothing. Someone who no matter how much they sulked you still knew they could score at anytime.

The team has played better, obvisouly, now Henry left but we do miss what he brought to the team now more then ever. That's why in the summer we need to find a proper world class goal scorer - our own Torres or Ronaldo, our new Henry.

I also want to see a couple other signings, namley (wishful thinking)...

Richards - We need someone challanging Gallas and Toure in the middle. I know we have big phil but what would we do if Gallas and Toure fucked themselfs up at the same time next season? We'd be fucked. Also, he'd be an able deputy for Sagna when needed. I know he's cost a fuck load but if we have all this money let's spend some.

Ricardo Quaresma - Poor man's Ronaldo? Fuck that, I rate him and we need some half decent wingers.

Ben Arfa - A left footed player would can work on the wings. Sounds fucking perfect.

Work on a viable and quick process of cloning Denis Bergkamp.

It's too early for me to think of anyone else.

Sunday should be fun anyway :P

The biggest waster in football?

Flopped at Barca due to a bad attitude. Wasn't interested in Bayern Munich due to it being 'too cold'. Looks unstoppable in one game only to be followed in the next one with lots of falling over and moaning. He's the definition of inconsistant and he's also not exactly a teenager that can be moulded into a team player. A real pity as he could have been one of the best players on the planet.

That's all true I guess and I suppose I overlooked it, maybe because the sting from Tuesday has got me desperate and I'm just naming any motherfucker that plays in a postion we need some cover in.

He still can be, all he needs is a manager that can sort out his attitude and get him working hard on the pitch. He has an easy life at Porto, we've just won the league 18 points ahead of second placed Benfica. He's arguably our best player, he gets a good wage, he's a superstar. I don't think he even wants to leave for a bigger club. But I'm sure he could become a success in England under the right management. I'm just not sure if Wenger's the man to do it.

We should have bought Ribery when we had the chance, or Ashley Young before he went to Villa.

I think both would do well at Arsenal, maybe we should still try for one of them even though the transfer fee could now be a bigger problem than it was in the first place.

Toure's brother Yaya is another one we fucked up on.

Agbonlahor & Micah Richards could both also do well.

Lehmann's cracked again.

I don't find it very funny being forced to sit on the bench for a man who didn't start playing until he was 30. I am very angry
