Thanks for clearning that one up!

The second defender wasn't off the pitch receiving treatment; he was still playing; he'd just skidded past the byline. Does that really mean he's no longer in play and not to be counted for offside? By your interpretation, a goalkeeper can step back into his net every time he wants to play someone offside (because then the striker would then need to be behind two defenders to be onside, rather than just one). No way.

Heh, sorry about that.

That’s a good point about the ‘keeper being able to step into his goal and play everyone offside. I'd imagine there has to be a rule saying players can't step off the pitch to give themselves a tactical advantage.

I don't know about that. It is kind of irrelevant, but I just thought it was unfair of the earlier post saying he should have known he was offside, since to my mind there's at least a decent argument that he was actually on.

Anyway, he's really not playing very well at the moment, that's for sure. If Van Persie's injured I hope Theo gets a start up front - I think he's earnt it.

I don't think Bendtner was offside even though the linesman did flag for it, but what would have happened if he didn't touch the ball and it just rolled in? Would he have been given offside?

Why he didn't move out of the way, jump up, open his legs, anything but what he did I'll never know. After it happened he looked at Cesc absolutely horrified and it seemed he said 'I tried to move my leg' or something like that. I just hope he wasn't trying a flick or backheel when all he had to do was nothing.

As for the penalty, I thought the ref had a good game but that decision was unbelievable especially as he was 5 yards away with a clear view.

Anyway, it's gonna be hard but still all to play for.

We need a Milan or Real Madrid type of performance to pull this off.

Just got back from watching the game with a mate in central London. Now, this mate is a Man U fan (but not the Mr Do type) and there were plenty of Liverpool fans in there but the whole pub went up when Chelsea let those goals in, fantastic

Really? Cool! I was sure he was going to get booked as the ref seemed to run towards him with the yellow out, but then it cut to the replay.

Just read a good comment on F365, 'Bendtner would have saved the penalty anyway'

It's a shame about Bendtner - that will knock his confidence badly I suspect (and knock the Arse out the CL too, possibly). I actually thought he was having a good game up until then, some crisp incisive passing around the area - something that Adebayor doesn't readily offer.

Also, worst penalty decision evar.

From Arsenal.com:

"On Van Persie's injury...

"It's a muscular problem, we had to take him out for a precaution. We'll see how it goes. I don't think it's a recurrence but it was where he was injured before on his thigh. For a precaution we had to take him off."

Arse.

I can't believe football clubs still let very good, influential players not sign a new contract way before the last one runs out. I was genuinely shocked when i heard he will be able to leave for free in the summer.

You guys need to snap him up ASAP!

To be fair last season he was little more than a squad player. This season he has transformed himself into Gatusso. Seriously the change has been amazing. I don't think a single Arsenal fan would have really complained too much if he had left last summer.
