Predictions? I think we'll sneak it but I don't hold much hope for a clean sheet. 2-1 or possibly 3-1 would be good at this stage.

Yeah it's hard to see us not conceding given how easily we seem to have leaked goals lately - conceding to people like Bolton and Boro on the break. And of course Torres is on fire so it won't be easy. I could see 1-1 to be honest.

but on the other hand, if we raise our game anything's possible. After all, we played two legs against Milan and didn't concede. If we play as well as we can, we're better than Liverpool.

2-1 is a disaster IMO. Well, not a disaster but certainly not good. I feel 0-0 is miles more preferable. Mustn't concede, and I'm a little more optimistic than you are. Drogba bullied you and Torres might, he's good enough. But stop Gerrard and Torres won't have any supply. Utd manage that frequently, no reason to think you can't.

Just remember this years Anfield game where you dominated; last seasons cup smashings; 1989 and Thomas. You will prevail!

Hopefully.

1-0 Arse, BTW.

What is interesting is I slate Ferguson for being overly cautious in Europe, worrying more about the opposition than what we can do, then state 0-0 is better than a home win. HMM...

Hmmmm tough one to call with Adebayor gone a bit bad and Van Persie still to score from open play I don't know where we are going to get the goals from. Still, I think we can neutralize Gerrard and dominate the game no problem. I reckon 2-0.

I think it'll be a very tight game, maybe 0-0 which is not that bad or we might sneak a 1-0.

We need to keep Gerrard and Torres quiet (obviously), and Adebayor and RVP need to take their chances when they come.

Really scary but looking forward to it, I hope the team that beat Milan turn up and not the team that played the 1st half against Bolton.

Edit: Does anyone know what Arsenal players are on a yellow?

I hope we turn up down here, for once. I'm so used to seeing us get turned over in London it hurts.

Both sides have a few players flirting with a suspension. Hopefully we won't see any sneaky attempts to get players booked. I remember the last time we were in a similar situation, Gudjohnson got Alonso booked with a cynical dive which put him out of the second leg. Unfortunately, such is the importance of the game, I'm expecting to see just that tonight.

Good luck anyway, lads (but not too much).

Poor result against a poor side. Fair play to Liverpool, they know how to ride their luck and they weren't fussed about making a game out of it. But you can't not beat teams like that at home.

Can't believe that penalty. Same old story. And we look knackered but we've not got anyone to come in. Missed half time dashing home, what's up with van Persie? I think him and Rosicky might be for the chop in the summer.

I really don't like Eboue one bit.

Eboue is a cunt and i hate him i want walcott on.

I didn't think there could be a worse player than Eboue in a red shirt tonight until Bendtner came on. Dismal performace from both of them. Hleb had a bit of a 'mare and the referee was poor.

Theo has to start from now on, Eboue's not up to it.

Bendtner lol. Well, not lol, what the fuck was he doing? A striker should instinctively know where the goal is, even with his back to it. And know when he's offside. No wonder Adebayor hates him.

Just got back from watching the game with a mate in central London. Now, this mate is a Man U fan (but not the Mr Do type) and there were plenty of Liverpool fans in there but the whole pub went up when Chelsea let those goals in, fantastic :D

We were utterly unlucky tonight and there were a lot of positives. Bendtner wasn't great but we should draw a line under it I think. The lad didn't do it on purpose and we shouldn't forget that if it wasn't for him challenging Reina, the ball would have never been punched out for the shot in. Also, the fact that Bendtner was on the line was actually good positional play (IMHO - what if it had been going wide?) and it was just unfortunate that he's a lanky git. Walcott looked good until he was moved out to the right, showed plenty of purpose and confidence. Even my mates, who had previously taken delight in his limited progress, were cheering him on when he took the ball on and ran at Liverpool.

I was absolutely gutted about RvP as well. He did everything but score in the first half and his corner was great for our goal, although him and Cesc contrived to fuck up the same set piece later in the half. I also assumed that Eboue had been hauled off when I saw Theo on the sidelines which made me smile, only for the bastard to trot back out. I'm guessing that RvP will be out for the next 2-3 games - either that or he'll be rushed back due to fatigue (they all looked fucked in the last 10 mins) and get a worse injury anyway.

Like I said, positive overall. Torres was kept at bay and we shouldn't fear the second leg at Anfield. No disrespect to Liverpool but their home atmosphere shouldn't affect us in the same way it affects other European teams. We need to score a goal, but we would have needed one at 0-0 or 1-0 tonight, and its no different at 1 - 1.

Also, CHELSEA LOL.

A great night out anyway, but exhausted. Night gooners.

I don't think I ever remember such universal dislike of an Arsenal player amongst Arsenal fans, as what there is for Eboue. Not only is he shit but he's a diving cheating scumbag. I'm sure in the first half he done one of his "dives for the sake of it" by the half way line and when he didn't get the free kick, Cesc pointed at him as if to say "it's your fault, you dived". It was right in front of me but it was quick so I may have been mistaken.

What is the view on the Hleb penalty shout? I have only seen it once live, and they didn't replay it on the screen. i think it looked like a foul but as I say, I only saw it once so can't be sure. Other than this (and the odd free kick here and there) the ref was excellent. Amazingly lenient with some strong tackles, let the game flow, didn't wave his cards around like a retard and controlled the game without spoiling it.

Bit disapointed to concede so quickly after scoring but not the end by any means. We can score anywhere so it's still to play for, although saying that Liverpool can play for the 0-0 and get it if they need it so we shall see. Gonna be tough no doubt.

It was a clear penalty. Kuyt (the best Liverpool player on the night for me) had a proper hold of Hleb and dragged him down. The reaction of the other Liverpool players showed how clear a foul it was; hands on head all round.

Kuyt did get lucky with the decision, the only thing I can think of was that the ref wasn't impressed with Hleb's pirouette when he went down.

:D Bollocks. Not going our way at the moment is it (perhaps we used up all our luck with that pinball last minute winner against Bolton.)

Kuyt ran so much last night I thought he was going to collapse. Gerrard looked good too and Torres was always a threat. They were all very well organised and played well but those three stood out. The system suited them too, not seen them playing that formation before and they looked quite good I thought. It will be interesting next week but I think our small squad may hurt us as the same players pretty much have to play on Saturday and next Wednesday and I think they will rest loads of players for Saturday. We shall see.

He wasn't offside. There was one Liverpool defender further back than him on the goalline (to his right), and another slightly behind the goalline to the right of the goal - I think he fell over when Adebayor (?) went past him going towards the by-line. But anyway, it was still a ridiculous thing to do.

Shocking pen decision. I fear for Arsenal; don't think I can bear sitting through two Liverpool-Chelsea matches.

Nah, he was off. There has to be 2 players between him and the goal; normally it’s the keeper and the last defender. The other Liverpool defender was off the pitch.

Moot point really as he somehow managed to block the shot.

Thanks for clearning that one up! :D

The second defender wasn't off the pitch receiving treatment; he was still playing; he'd just skidded past the byline. Does that really mean he's no longer in play and not to be counted for offside? By your interpretation, a goalkeeper can step back into his net every time he wants to play someone offside (because then the striker would then need to be behind two defenders to be onside, rather than just one). No way.
