Also I just noticed that Fabregas and Eduardo look really similar from a distance.

Watching it online through Vaseline-o-vision I was constantly getting them confused.

I must say, if there's a better right back anywhere than Sagna I'd like to see him.

I was reasonably impressed with Blackburn. Not the dirty side we often see, they had good possession for 25 minutes in the first half and kept going til the end. Never that much of a threat though. Bentley was OK. Obviously Friedel had his usual blinder  .

I thought big Phil did well but, regardless of how he's playing, he's always likely to make a mistake, slice a clearance or get sent off. If he can get that out of his game he could make it. I think he'll be hard to drop at the moment. Good chance to rest Kolo.

Good result last night, overall an excellent weekend's results.

I thought the back four and keeper were solid, Flamini, Cesc and Eduardo did ok, Gilberto seems totally gone though, couldn't pass the ball even 10 yards, feel sorry for him but Wenger needs to put him out of his misery and let him go in the summer. Adebayor worked hard and was a constant nuisance to them, now scored in 9 games in a row. 3 away from Ian Wrights record of 12 (amazing record by the way). As for Hleb, he was class. His dribbling, passing and vision are 2nd to none.

Anyone see the Ade and Hleb interview after the game on Setanta?

There seems to be a superb team spirit there.

On his goal.

Ade "I knew Alex would pass to me because he doesn't like to shoot"

Ade giving Hleb the MOTM Champagne.

"Well done but don't drink it all because we have Manchester on Saturday"

Nerve wracking stuff. It was very disappointing to hear the audible groaning and moaning in the crowd every time moves broke down or passes went astray even though Blackburn were playing "crab football" most of the night - pretty stuff (by their standards!) with little penetration. The lads in the red action section were doing their best but it cant help the team.

Anyway we march on and on. Sagana was superb last night - power, pace and touch (trapping one wayward Lehman goal kick instantly comes to mind). Pleased for Senderos too.

Hleb has got a touch of George Best about him when he's on the ball. Not a direct comparison cos Best is in the top half dozen all time players IMO, but in terms of dribbling and keeping possession Hleb is magical.

Yeah, but it's got to the point where everyone is really nervous. It not much fun watching games right now  . On TV it sounded like the crowd were giving it plenty of encouragement for most of the game and at the right times. I can kind of understand the frustration, I don't think it was consciously aimed at the team.

SENDEROS IS BACK!

A swift pint in the 12 pins followed by around 80 minutes of turgid football.

We came out of the blocks well and were rewarded by an early goal, but after that we took our foot off the gas. Having Gilberto on didn't help, he slows play down too much.

We weren't challenging for the second ball and when we did have possession we were trying to walk it into the goal. Their was audible frustration around me as another opportunity to shoot went begging. I was surprised by how positive the match report in the Times was. I certainly don't think we dominated Blackburn. It was their inability to get service to their strikers that kept them out of the match.

Hleb had a great match, as did Sagna. Fabregas did well, but it's a waste to put him on the wing.

From Arseblog:

On Feb 10 2004, Arsenal won 2-0 at home (v So’ton), TH14 scored his 19th of the season in the League; on the 11th, United lost at home (3-2 to Boro), and Arsenal went 5 points clear.

On Feb 11 2008, Arsenal won 2-0 at home, Adebayor scored his 19th of the season in the League, the day after United had lost at home, and Arsenal went 5 points clear.

I didn't see any of the game (anyone got a link to the highlights?) but did we play Gilberto as a holding MF with Flamini ahead of him, Hleb left and Cesc right?

If we keep Flamini fit and stop playing Gilberto the Premiership is ours for the taking.

All I can find is this: http://www.bettingpredictor.com/premier73.htm

We played pretty much as you said there and Cesc was wasted on the right.

Surely when people come back from injury Flamini and Cesc will play central. Gilberto is just gone. He looks like he is wading through quicksand.

The relief when the second goal went in was immense. Loudest roar i've heard for a while.

Sagna was incredible. Cesc kept drifiting inside and Sagna was basically playing the whole right side on his own. The guy does not stop running.

Crazy. Well it did the trick I suppose.

Great goal from Senderos, really good movement too - left McCarthy (was it?) for dead. Good to see him back in some kind of form, he's always been good at attacking set pieces and defensively he seems more Terry than Bramble at the moment.

Do people think we might be playing somewhat above what we should be? At the moment our team is barebones, and as our injury list lengthens, more and more players will start getting tired out and falling from their peak. Assuming we beat Utd on Saturday, and get a good victory over AC Milan, both of which are possible at the moment, chances are we will have an incredibly congested fixture list come the end of the season, which will only lead to more games for fewer players, some of whom have already played a hell of a lot this season (Gallas, Sagna, Clichy, Fabregas, Adebayor all spring to mind, and all are vital). Utd have faltered for now, but there's no way they're going to get us get any further ahead without a real fight, and I'm not entirely sure we have enough players to mount a serious challenge for more than one of either the Premier League or the Champions League.

If we focus on one, we can win it, of that I have no doubt, but if we focus on both, I don't think we'll win either, and I'm worried that's what might happen.

Thoughts?
