Arsenal will have defender Philippe Senderos (knee) available for Saturday's clash with Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium. Johan Djourou (groin) is definitely out, but captain William Gallas will return at centre-back as Arsene Wenger recalls his first-team regulars following the midweek Carling Cup tie. Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann will be on the bench, despite continued talks over a proposed move to Borussia Dortmund.

Forward Robin van Persie (flu) is sidelined, while Emmanuel Eboue, Kolo Toure and Alexandre Song are all away on international duty at the African Nations Cup.

Arsenal (from): Almunia, Clichy, Gallas, Senderos, Sagna, Rosicky, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor, Eduardo, Lehmann, Fabianski, Gilberto, Walcott, Hoyte, Bendtner, Denilson, Diaby, Traore, Diarra.

I see Diarra's cold is better, wonder if he'll make the bench.

Is this the squad from the Arsenal website by the way?

I'd rather a defender hoof it up the pitch rather than try and play it out of the defence. Diarra is really annoying, you can tell he came from chelsea. if he has an attitude problem he needs to be sold now so that he doesn't disrupt the squad. I hope Jens fucks off soon aswell. Also very glad senderos is fit even though i bet alot of you aren't.

If a defender can play it out they should. A lot of our best play comes from the ball being fed short from the back to fabregas in midfield. Although, recently we've resorted to more long balls to break teams down, which has had obvious results.

Theo should start as he has shown alot of promise, he is looking a hell of alot better than he did last year and because of that i want to see him play more. Remind me when Theo got the chance to prove himself week in week out? Your too quick to label a player as worthless or shit. What you don't seem to understand and what is getting increasingly frustrating is that everything is just black or white to you, one minute a player is shit like song then after a few games he's an able deputy. Adebayor is shit and not good enough to play for arsenal now after scoring a few goals he's ace. Plyers can never just be good players with more to come you just change your mind when the papers do and that is jumping on the bandwagon!

Don't remember saying I'd changed my mind? I still think Adebayor is shit. ;)

However, he obviously knows he'll never get a chance this good again and is making the most of it. Good luck to the lad and as I've said many times before, I'm happy to be proved wrong, especially if it means Arsenal winning silverware!

Song in midfield = poo. Song in defence = good. I'm pretty sure most thread regulars would agree with me. Song's position changes, my opinion changes.

Why do you think Eboue of all players gets the nod over Theo week in week out? Is perhaps because the manager, whose opinion is worth a lot more on the subject than ours, doesnt think he's good enough?

What about players like Hleb? A year ago I (and many others) were totally frustrated by him, now I'm pretty sure we all think he's an integral part of the team. Does that make us all bandwagon jumpers, or just me?

I'd have to agree with Herc here Lucas, you seem a bit quick to kick poor old Theo. I'd like to know who these 18yr olds are that you talk of that prove themselfs more worth then Theo. And like Herc says, it isn't like he get's a chance week in week out to prove himself. Give him a chance, look at Flam...he wasn't looking the shit for so long, sure, you could see there was something there but I'm sure you, like myself and a lot of us, would have had no problem letting him go this summer. But look at him now, the lads a mega rock and I want him to sign a new deal more then anything.

I can understand the sceptisim though.

How old was Rooney when he became a first team regular?

I've always liked Flamini's sleeves rolled-up, get stuck in attitude, but have doubted and still do his long term technical ability. I thought he made a pretty good left-back as well.

But it's just an opinion. This would be a really boring thread if we all just said player X is great!

What does everyone think of Theo after Wednesday's game? Did it change your opinions?

Exactly like Gallas, he was a right pain when he arrived with the whole left-sided arguments. More luck (Clichy being ace) than anything to do with him that it subsided. Now he's happy he's great, but I think there is a strong chance he'd have left if it wasn't for Clichy.

Dude, seriously. You're fucking bonkers! ^_^

Not one bit. I still think he might make it, he might not. He's not a first choice player for us right now by any stretch. Hopefully he'll mature but he seems to be standing still when Wenger progresses other players in leaps and bounds. Theo looks like he's learning nothing  .

He's a freak of nature, though. I'm pretty sure he was born a fully grown, granny molesting man.

Of course, this is very true. We can't be comparing Theo or anyone else to Rooney cos he was born ready.

On Luke Freeman..

Wenger, who has often taken stick this season for naming a 16-man squad without an Englishman, takes pride in Freeman being English and says the club has a lot of emerging home-grown talent.

Arsenal are putting their faith in English teenagers Henri Lansbury, Mark Randall and Kieran Gibbs while Jack Willshere is also one for the future.

Wenger also says that of 25 players coming through the academy system only five are foreign.

Wenger said: "We will be pushing the Freeman deal through, I want to buy English! We will pay them a transfer fee.

"We want them as young as possible, and, if you are not on the case somebody else is on it. It's because it's a competitive world, you do not really choose the age you buy the players.

"When a good player comes out you know you are not on your own, you're competing with four or five clubs, and if you don't do it, somebody else does it - so, even if ideally you would wait one or two more years, you can't anymore.

"I like Freeman, I met the boy, his personality, he looks alert. He's a striker and at 15 to play for the first team sometimes is something special."

Best post ever!

I thank you! He's got no first touch, he doesn't seem to be able to contol the ball but somehow it all works out ok and he gets goals!

Theo cannot truely be judged when he is playing on the flank. Let him get a run up front then start judging him, Eboue gets the nod over him because he is better defensively. Not every young player is gonna progress at the rate rooney has, some players develop early and some do late. When Gallas first joined he was moaning alot but now he's been with us for a while he has stopped. Song has only played a couple of games in defense and he's better than Senderos? Even though when senderos first broke into the team he looked like a great prospect, solid and dependable.

My thoughts on yesterday:

Senderos actually played quite well. No mistakes. Even the goal wasn't his fault.

Theo was shocking. Really bad. Done absolutely nothing and gave the ball away continuously. I don't think he is a winger, he is a striker but I wouldn't pick him ahead of any of the other 4 strikers we have so I am not sure where we go from here. Personally I don't think he will "make it" at Arsenal.

Almunia: Good save in the first half. Not sure about the goal. Didn't look too convincing but with the poor marking (from Flamini) and what looked like a deflection you can't really blame him.

Hleb: First half was amazing. Every touch was just outrageously good. Every touch was a bit of skill or a throughball or just something good. Second half he was quiet but we were as a whole.

Diaby for Sagna: Really confused about this substition. Sagna and Clichy were the only ones giving us width and he took Sagna off and we were all over the place. I'm not sure why he did this. Especially when it was Diaby to come on, hardly gonna change the game, unless holding the ball for too long was gonna unlock their defence. The only reason I can see is fresh legs but it was a strange one.

Apart from that nobody really stood out. A bit of a sloppy display but only the second time we have dropped points at home this season, the other being the draw with Man Utd.

Theo Walcott

He can't shoot, pass, tackle, cross or hold on to the ball, he doesn't track back or possess the footballing intelligence to make proper use of his pace, is injury prone and, according to his manager, requires a "rest" after playing 150 minutes of football in four days.

Arsenal graduate David Bentley, meanwhile, is in the form of his life at Blackburn Rovers.

From today's F365 "winners and losers" piece. There was an interesting piece on Walcott in the NotW on Sunday as well, whereby they suggest a season long loan for Theo would be a good move and pointing out the good it had done Bendtner. Their dire warnings that he might be the next Jeffers were perhaps a little OTT, but they made a valid point that in 2 years he hasn't progressed at all.

Missed MotD and fairly gald I did tbh. It's games like this that make or break a season. We should be burying these sorts of teams at home.
