Cesc

"I felt my hamstring in the first half," he said. "I kept going, but I felt it again in the second half. I just came off to prevent something. It's the first time in my life I have felt this and I didn't want to take a risk. I'd say I'll be fit for Saturday, but the doctors are always trying to be a little bit careful. We will see the reaction.

fingers crossed

December looks like being a tricky month, we have 6 away games and only 2 at home and those are against Chelsea and the scum. Also there's the last round of the CL games where we'll find out if we finish top or not and also the QF of the Carling cup against Blackburn, away again. Cesc has picked up a little injury, RVP is a couple of weeks away and have Hleb and Flamini recovered?

We'll lose Toure and Adebayor in January too.

Not all doom and gloom though, we are top of the league 3pts clear with a game in hand, have qualified for the next round of the CL and Spurs are still shit.

If we are in a similar position at the end of Jan then we can count ourselves as real contenders.

So is Cesc definitely out? Come on Arsenal fans, I need to know for Fantasy Premier League purposes ;)

Cesc Fabregas was substituted in Sevilla with a hamstring injury. On Thursday Arsène Wenger revealed that he was a doubt for Saturday's match with Aston Villa. “I don’t know how long it will be,” he Wenger. “We hope it will be very, very, very short maybe he’ll even be OK for Saturday. But the medical staff are not optimistic about that. The worst case for him realistically is 10 days."

Gael Clichy and Alex Hleb face late fitness tests ahead of the game at Aston Villa on Saturday but Cesc Fabregas is now definitely out.

The Spaniard injured his hamstring at Sevilla on Tuesday and was rated as highly doubtful by Arsène Wenger at his press conference on Thursday. He failed a fitness test on Friday morning.

Clichy (thigh) and Hleb (hamstring) have travelled to Birmingham ahead of the game but the manager will make a late call on both.

Meanwhile Robin van Persie (knee) and Abou Diaby (back) are injured. Mathieu Flamini returns after being kept out of the midweek defeat in Spain with a thigh injury. Emmanuel Adebayor and William Gallas are back after being rested against Sevilla.

I'd be interested to see the Carew challenge again. It looked a shocker from the stands. It pisses me off really, because it makes any praise for our style of play totally hollow unless you punish people who counter it by boning any player who's better than you.

Flamini and Diarra were immense in the first half. We wilted a bit in the second 45, but credit to Villa who caused us some big problems in the air.

Carew's tackle was a foul but nothing more. A yellow card was right.

Arsenal kicked our arse after we scored but the second half was all Villa and we were unlucky not to get a point.

I'm happy with the game overall though. Arsenal are an immense team who played some of their best football today and (after a wobble) we actually looked like we could handle it.

Mind you, Fabregas and Van Persie were missing so I think you'll be hard to stop this season.

Credit to Aston Villa they really did come out and show what a good team they are in the second half, they dominated the last 45mins against us after we'd played so well in the first half. O'Neill has built a very good side there, one that is pleasing on the eye with some top talent. As long as your manager stays you'll do very well indeed.

Hleb and Flamini join Cesc and Co on the injured list
Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini have been ruled out of the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday.

The Arsenal squad left for Tyneside on Tuesday without FOUR international midfielders. Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby missed the 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday with hamstring and back injuries respectively. They will not be returning at St James’ Park.

And during that morale-boosting victory in Birmingham, Hleb collected an Achilles/hamstring problem while Flamini fell victim to a recurrence of his thigh injury. Arsène Wenger will bolster his midfield by adding Denilson to his squad. He also has options in Lassana Diarra and Gilberto. However striker Robin Van Persie (knee) is still a couple of weeks away from a return.

“We have lost Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini from Saturday at Villa,” Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Tuesday afternoon. “We have no-one back so that's Diaby, Van Persie, Hleb, Flamini and Fabregas out for this game.

“At one stage we thought it was congested in midfield but now it looks bare,” he joked. “But we still have quality players coming in there. We have Gilberto while Denilson is back after an injury. He is travelling with us. So we are very confident that we are still strong in the midfield.”

Hleb and Fabregas are unlikely to be back for Arsenal’s return to the North-East on Sunday at Middlesbrough however there is more optimism over the chances of Flamini playing at the Riverside Stadium.

EDIT: Shit

Hmm, not sure about tonight's game. I mean, Fat Sam loves stitching us up and their team should be playing for some self respect. Or, you could suggest that the reported unrest in their camp might see them not particularly trying that hard to help facilitate Sam being pushed sooner rather than later. And if we get a good start their fans might turn again.

Anyway, our injuries are pretty bad right now but it speaks volumes that our central midfield will still be from Diarra (would get in more or less any Prem side), Gilberto (likewise) and Denilson (would get in most Prem sides). Hleb is a miss, obviously, but Rosicky is doing well right now and we have Theo and Eboue, plus Eduardo. I mean, we have some injury list but does everyone agree that we still look very strong?

Away win :( .

As expected this is gonna be a tough week in a tough month. I guess if there was one position where we would choose an injury crisis to hit, it would be centre midfield, as we are quite well off there.

My team for tonight.

Almunia

Sagna

Toure

Gallas

Clichy

Eboue

Diarra

Gilberto

Rosicky

Walcott

Adebayor

Give Theo a start up front next to the big man, get them worried about his pace. No doubt tonight is going to be a big, big test.

I can't see wenger starting theo as he likes to play 4-5-1 away and walcott isn't as good defensively as eboue, though i'd love him to start.

He does like 4-5-1 away but i'm not sure we can scrape 5 midfielders together can we? Unless he plays Eduardo left and sticks Rosicky inside.

Yeah I'll go along with that, but I reckon it'll be a similar system to Villa but with Rosicky taking Hleb's role, Theo taking Rosicky's and Gilberto coming in for Flamini in a 4-5-1.

Bendtner, Denilson and Eduardo on the bench should give us some options too.

I thought we supposedely haven't got strength in depth? (if the experts and tabloids are to be believed)

I can't see walcott staring on the wing because he isn't good at tracking back that's why eboue has started over him. We have options and i'd personally like to see everyone play in their natural position though i dunno if i want gilberto starting.
