Hat off to Gallas. He absolutely wouldn't let us draw that. I'm not his biggest fan (I'm coming round though :o ) but as a captain he's more or less perfect for this side.

Just about sums it up really. Not a very good team performance but Gallas was very good I thought and just refused to accept a draw. Nice hair too. Diarra was also neat and tidy too. Wigan made it hard, the dirty bastards, but I think we deserved the 3 points. Jesus it was cold.

In Wenger's post match questions this came up:

On rumours about the January Transfer Window...

"Pandev? Yes, I know him. No, we're not looking for anybody at the moment."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goran_Pandev

His wikipedia page says they will want £25m. I still can't see us paying so much for one player. I guess old habits die hard and I still fell we are poor.

He was the one who scored against us in the Amsterdam tournament for Lazio. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rFXQxNxq9BU

Wenger making Gallas the captain has got to go down as one of the best decisions he's made, an absolute masterstroke. No one expected it but now we are seeing that it makes perfect sense.

Gallas is a leader who leads from the front. There was no way he was going to allow us not to win on Saturday, just look at his celebration after he scored.

Also he got a bit of stick for steaming in when Denilson was chopped by Bent, but that's his job man, let the opposition know that if you kick us we aint just gonna stand there and take it, we'll let you know it's not on and we'll kick you straight back if we have to.

It's good to have a captain again who seems to be made from the same stuff as Vieira and the great leader that was Tony Adams.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that actually. It was a pretty nasty tackle and Gallas, the captain stepped in. The commentators went bonkers but when Heskey steamed in waving his arms in everyone's face nothing was said. Heskey caused the problem IMO.

Squad to face Seville.

Arsène Wenger has named the following squad for the trip to Sevilla on Tuesday. The most notable absentees are Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and William Gallas. However Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto and Cesc Fabregas are back after missing the Wigan game on Saturday.

1. Jens Lehmann

3. Bacary Sagna

4. Cesc Fabregas

5. Kolo Toure

6. Philippe Senderos

7. Tomas Rosicky

8. Lassana Diarra

9. Eduardo

15. Denilson

16. Mathieu Flamini

17. Alex Song

19. Gilberto

24. Manuel Almunia

26. Nicklas Bendtner

27. Emmanuel Eboue

30. Armand Traore

31. Justin Hoyte

32. Theo Walcott

I know Seville are playing shit lately, but this is a game we don't want to lose if we are to win the group and avoid other group winners in the next round, which look like including Chelsea, Meelan, Real, Barca and UTD.

Heskey should have walked for two shameful challenges. At the end of the day, we picked up 3 points which is all that matters. It made the trip home even more satisfying knowing that Man Yoo had lost :(

Very relieved to see Theo on that list after being stretchered off on Saturday.

I think Bendtner deserves a chance up top with Eduardo after coming on to good effect against Wigan.

Absolutely, played a key role in both goals, particularly the second. He seems to be playing as a member of the Arsenal team which is fantastic to see, I was worried that he was beginning to be seen as too much of a rogue player after some of his comments earlier this season.

I was also perplexed by the commentators reaction to Gallas getting involved. He didn't raise his arms (that was Heskey) and he is the captain, as he at the time and you guys in the thread have pointed out. I was initially concerned that he got involved but I'm prepared to say I was wrong. If the same Gallas that does that is the same Gallas who scores crucial goals 2 games in a row and drags the whole team up with his performance then long may it continue :(

Gallas is starting to come good now he is having a prolonged run in the team, there was never a question about his quality in my opinion, just whether he could stay fit. Theo looked good and i'm glad to see he is in the squad for tomo, i hope he starts on the right with Eduardo and Nicklas upfront. The question now is will Diarra and Denilson start or will Gilberto and Fabregas?

His progress really has stalled completely. I'd have started with Song at centre back as he's proved very capable in that position this season.

I get the feeling that every commentator in the land is waiting for Arsenal to slip up. Yes Hoyte was silly, but there's no need to cast aspersions over our entire disciplinary record, which has been very good for a long time now.

It'll be intresting to see how we react to this going into a busy christmas period. Plenty of away games coming up too.

Nothing to react to. We had already qualified and Wenger rested one too many players perhaps. And Gilberto showed more rust than a 1980 Vauxhall Chevette.

All fair enough but a loss is a loss and it's our first of the season. I'm not shitting it or anything but you never know how this kind of thing could hit the players.

Then again, I'm sure big Will wouldn't let that happen.

A bit gutted about the performance/result last night. Not a disaster though as we have still qualified and can still win the group if we win our last game, which we should even with a weakened team, and if Seville draw away to Slavia like we did.

Have we learnt anything from last night?

Not much that we didn't already know really.

1. Wenger is not a good loser (I think that's a good thing though, as the saying goes show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser)

2. Senderos isn't good enough and probably never will be, good enough squad player? maybe.

3. Gilberto looked short of confidence and very rusty. Maybe Wenger has picked exactly the right time to drop him down the pecking order.

4. When Fabregas doesn't play/play well we look a bit clueless. A bit of a disaster that he picked up an injury. Slight hamstring wasn't it?

5. We badly miss Hleb.

6. We need RVP to come back asap.

7. Hoyte isn't good enough.

8. Almunia will do for now but in the summer we need a top top quality keeper.

9. Bendtner looked good and there's definitely hope there for sure.

10. Even though Bendtner played good it kind of made me realise how well Adebayor does in this role.

11. Traore has got a little way to go before Clichy needs worry.

12. Eduardo could be one of those players that just manages to get on the scoresheet, even when he doesn't play well or even when he's played out of position.

That's quite a bit actually.

Like you say I don't really care that he goes a bit mad when we lose. I get upset, I want him and all the players to get upset too.

2. Senderos isn't good enough and probably never will be, good enough squad player? maybe.

Last night was the final straw for me. That was one of the worst centre back performances I have seen from anyone in an Arsenal shirt for a long time. His "clearance" which led to their goal, diving in like a retard for the "handball" penalty (even though it wasn't handball, what kind of attempt to play the ball was that?), picking the ball up when he thought they were offside. And his general play was shit too. Too slow, can't run, can't jump for headers. Not good enough. Get him out. If he plays in January when Toure goes to Africa he will cost us.

3. Gilberto looked short of confidence and very rusty. Maybe Wenger has picked exactly the right time to drop him down the pecking order.

He looked rusty but also he slows the play down too much and no longer fits into our team. Seems strange to say that after him missing 10 or so games but I would let him leave in January. He holds the ball too long and Flamini, who never really tries anything too clever, keeps the ball moving quickly.

4. When Fabregas doesn't play/play well we look a bit clueless. A bit of a disaster that he picked up an injury. Slight hamstring wasn't it?

Everything goes through him so it is understandable. Please God let him be ok.

Yes.

10. Even though Bendtner played good it kind of made me realise how well Adebayor does in this role.

I thought Bendtner played very well and my only complaint is that he never really looked like scoring. I guess that's not easy when your team plays shit for 65 minutes of the game.

11. Traore has got a little way to go before Clichy needs worry.

It's a real shame that Clichy was injured as everything for Sevilla goes down their right with Navas and Alves but as he wasn't why didn't we actually play someone in left midfield rather than Eduardo who maybe wasn't the best person to track back and help Traore.

12. Eduardo could be one of those players that just manages to get on the scoresheet, even when he doesn't play well or even when he's played out of position.

I would like to see him playing up front in a full team with the team playing well. I think he could be lethal.

I still think we need a left winger and a centre back in January. Modric could be good (not for £30m obviously, they can shove it for that much) on the left. As far as centre back goes this is a bit more tricky because who would be ready to play now (i.e. not another 12 year old) but would maybe accept going back on the bench when Toure returns from the ACN? It would be hard to pay £10m for a centre back and then drop him when Toure returns.

I saw this morning that Mellberg and Laursen at Villa are both out of contract in the summer. Either one would be perfect I reckon, they could play now, and would maybe accept a squad place and not demand first team football. Slap in a cheeky bid for one of them, see if they take the money rather than risk losing them for nothing. And give them Senderos too.

It wasn't a great performance and fabregas wasn't in the game from the start, i just hope its not too serious. Eduardo is wasted on the left, he seems like the missing link in our team which is great as he always seems to score. Gilberto is finished in my eyes we need to sell him in january. Senderos had an awful game, i know he isn't sharp but it cost us. Bendtner played well but he needs a striking partner. Almunia couldn't do anything about the goals it was just sloppy defending. all in all a shit performance which the ref really didn't help.

Injured Arsenal midfielder Fabregas could miss next three games

Arsenal could be without Cesc Fabregas for their next three Premier League fixtures after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the 3-1 defeat by Sevilla on Tuesday

The 20-year-old Spain international, who has played a pivotal role in their excellent start to the season and scored 10 goals, limped off after 56 minutes of the Champions League clash.

Boss Arsene Wenger said: "It is a hamstring injury. We'll know more on Thursday morning."

Fabregas will have a scan on the injury today but he fears he could miss the games against Aston Villa, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

I hope that's all it is.

The next games being Steaua and Chelsea and then of course the scum.

St James' Park is pretty intimidating. For Newcastle.

Their fans are pathetic. I've been up there to see Arsenal loads of times and I always remember the game where we went 2-0 up after 55 mins or so and their fans started going home! Their fans have this ridiculous reputation for being the best in the country, but they boo their own players and manager the moment something goes wrong. Even wearing my Arsenal shirt around Newcastle town centre prompted unnecessary abuse and remarks. They are a joke.

From the bbc gossip column

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has suggested that the Gunners might be tempted to sell him if Real Madrid came in with a £100m offer. (The Independent)

:(

Great to see Ade has a sense of humour!
