New Manager Syndrome (remember Nottingham Forest a while ago?) plus international break-making-strangers-of-our-players makes this more tricky than otherwise. But should still be a straightforward win.

No, it's because I'm like the English Vieira. ;)

They have Titus Bramble in defence. And Steve Bruce is their new manager. Hardly the man to get you out of a relegation dogfight.

I didn't watch that shambles last night and I can't be arsed to trawl through the football thread but i'd like to know, how did Eduardo play and is Modric looking like the real deal?

They both played pretty well, nothing fantastic from either really but neat, tidy, did simple things and didn't give the ball away, a bit like the whole of the Croatia team really.

Eduardo set up the 2nd goal with a little Bergkamp style pass and Modric showed some good touches on what must have been a tricky surface to play on, not sure about £30million though.

If he's worth £30million Cesc is worth £80million.

Both looked streets ahead of any English players in terms of technique, motivation and brains. If there was ever an advert for why Wenger buys foreign then that was it. No way would any current English players fit into our style of play. We are so lacking as a football nation in so many ways

It's a big blow to lose Hleb as he has been just as important as cesc this season. I'm guessing Walcott and Eduardo will start on sat with Diarra and Denilson in the midfield.

Who does that leave to play up front, Ade and Bendtner? Can't see us starting with these two up front.

I reckon Wenger might go with'

Eboue - Diarra - Denilson - Walcott/Rosicky

--------Ade - Eduardo/Walcott

That said Bendtner wont be happy at not starting especially after scoring in both internationals.

Also isn't RVP back, maybe even on the bench?

Edit: Apparently not (Arsenal.com):

The leaders are likely to have five midfielders unavailable - Alex Hleb (hamstring), Mathieu Flamini (thigh), Cesc Fabregas (suspended), Abou Diaby (back) and Gilberto (fatigue). Philippe Senderos is back but Robin van Persie’s long-standing knee problem has not healed sufficiently for him to return.

The Dutchman last played for Arsenal against Sunderland on October 7. He picked up his injury during the international break that followed that game. It appears the most recent one has cost Arsenal a couple more players this time.

Hleb came back with a hamstring injury,” Wenger told Arsenal.com on Thursday afternoon. “So once again we lose someone during this [international] period. I think he’ll be out for 21 days. Flamini came back with a little thigh problem too. That will be one week maximum.

“Senderos is available but Cesc is suspended. Diaby has a back problem from the Slavia Prague game and he’ll be out for three weeks. Robin van Persie is not back and he will not be back for Sevilla either. Gilberto will return very, very late. In fact he only comes back on Friday. So, as for the rest of the squad, we’ll see.”

Best bit on five live's commentary t'other night from the legendary Mr Green :

"Look at Eduardo - he can barely get in the Arsenal first team"

Well, nearly as good as "American Football, I ask you" when talking about the state of the pitch.

Not yet, but it looked serious - lying very still and getting a lot of attention from Gary Lewin. There was no need for either challenge to end up like they did - a bit of pressure is fine but leaning into a player and then trapping their legs is just not on.

EDIT: Phew...

"Theo looks not bad. The physio told me he has to come off straight away because he was numb, he has been kicked certainly on the nerve. He twisted his ankle, we checked his X-ray now, he looks alright"
